Too bad Axl didn't kick Nugent's bow hunting ass, they're barely on stage so it couldn't have been long before Erin's getting hit on by "Uncle Ted". How was he towards you when he saw you had a camera?

Nugent's crew trying to sabotage their set isn't a surprise.

They opened for Ted Nugent & Black and Blue and were the 3rd band on the bill. Most of the people in the crowd didn't know who GNR were. The band won the crowd over and handled the gig like they were the headliners. Izzy and Slash almost didn't make it to this gig. The band had just got back from playing a gig in San Francisco with Jetboy and they were obtaining some necessary personal supplies. They got there 1 minute before the band took the stage and had to jump the fence to get into the gig. Slash broke his zipper jumping the fence. This was the gig that Tom Zutaut saw that he had signed a band that could handle a huge crowd.

Set list that night was

WTTJ

Out Ta Get Me

Nightrain

My Michelle

SCOM

Paradice City

Mama Kin

(This was the second time they played for a big crowd. The first time was at the LA Street Scene 11 months before. Where they also won over that crowd)

Nice info Marc!

Some questions

= Were you there?

= Did you record this show on video?

= Do you know if the guys were nervous (since, as you said, it was one of the first times they played for a big crowd)?

= When you say that "The band won the crowd over and handled the gig like they were the headliners" it is because somebody said that to you, or you saw that yourself?

= Do you know if they happened to like Ted Nugent's music? Do you know if they ever played Cat Scratch Fever on rehearsals? Do you know if they got to meet Ted before or after the show?

= Do you know if they got to meet the guys in Black and Blue before or after the show?

= How did the band and Zutaut reacted to the fact that Izzy and Slash almost didn't make it? Were they nervous? Or scared? Or pissed off?

= When you say that "This was the gig that Tom Zutaut saw that he had signed a band that could handle a huge crowd" it is because he said that to you, or did you notice that?

= Do you know if they were happy after the show?

Sorry for so many questions and thanks a lot in advance,

Yes I was there and shot all the photos from the gig. I had my video camera but I didn't video the gig because I didn't have a pass. My name was not on the list and I didn't even get in until 1 minute before the gig when Slash and Izzy got there, I just sort of went in with them. The Santa Monica Civic had very strict rules about who can do what on stage. They didn't even let the GNR roadies move the bands equipment. So I didn't think it was going to be a good idea to pull out the Video. I did see the show from the side of the stage.

I saw that the band did a great job holding the crowd but after the gig backstage Tom Z was also talking about how well the band did with the crowd. I think some of the guys in GNR may have already known the guys in Black And Blue.

I didn't really see Ted that night and I don't think the guys in the band really cared that much for him or his music.

I remember it being a little crazy when we got in and the rest of the band was waiting right by the stage for Slash and Izzy. Everyones nerves were shot but as soon as they hit the stage it was all Rock N' Roll.

The band was very happy with the gig. it was there first time in a big venue and It was the Santa Monica Civic, A place some of us used to go to see big bands that were on tour. I saw Thin Lizzy there in 1980.

What did the band usally do after a gig back in the club scene, like this one? Also I see axl did not yet have the cross tattoo, do you know when in 86 he got it and if there are any pics from the day he got it?

Were they living at the Hell House yet?? If so id imagine they went back there and partied. If not there then somewhere else and crashed there.

Not 100% sure but I sort of remember him getting that Tattoo in the spring of 1987 after AFD was recorded.
