Duff McKagan: 'Miley Cyrus Has Been a Good Influence on Girls, She Grew Into a Strong Woman'

Former Guns N' Roses and Velvet Revolver bassist Duff McKagan sang praises of pop superstar Miley Cyrus, saying she came a long way from the early Hannah Montana days.

During a "Patience or No Patience?" special on Loudwire, the bassist was asked to comment about random things jotted down on pieces of paper he drew from a bowl in front of him.

When Cyrus' name came up, Duff said: "I'd back the fuck out of her, she's great! I met her dad [billy Ray Cyrus], onstage, and I thought it was some drunk guy. [Laughs]

"She's been a good influence on the girls, she's changed and grown up, went from Hannah Montana to this strong woman, like, 'I do what I want,' and it's good for girls. I know, I've got two of them."http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/news/general_music_news/duff_mckagan_miley_cyrus_has_been_a_good_influence_on_girls_she_grew_into_a_strong_woman.html

I don't remember the last time Duff said something right. He's become a business man who judges people by their success. For him, Cyrus is great because she's successful. Nevermind if she does shit music and goes around showing her pussy to get attention.

That's sad, Duff.

I guess Duff just meant to be politically correct by avoiding a possible controversy with her and her father. My opinion about Miley Cyrus and all the other pop divas is that they do what the industry wants them to do. And both made great deal of profit. Nothing original there, Madonna did all those same thing long before them

Oh god.

This always nude, crap singer, tongue sticking out idiot who is a disgrace to women is a good influence? How?
Maybe being nude photoshoot after photoshoot is a talent.

Maybe crap singing auto tuned to perfection is a talent.

Maybe taking drugs is a talent.

Maybe copying other artists and being a part of the everythings-same genre of pop music is talent.

Im sorry Duff... if your kids end up like Miley Cyrus... men will not only disrespect them... but they would eventually end up hating themselves... that will lead to depression and finally ODing on pills and suicide.

I had respect for Duff... being a man also means not being a blind eyed feminist... being a man also means speaking the truth... nopes no... you arent a man.

And a lotta artists did that before Madonna. But frankly these katy perrys n iggy azaleas etc. or whoever the fck it is this week arent even talented enough to go beyond what others did. They are just copying and doing dope and getting nude for every magazine.

Whats the difference between her and Kim kardashian!?

Fact of the matter is she didnt want to fade out like most teen/child stars do. So she decided to be "controversial" and sell sex appeal. Its a publicity tactic. Lets face it, her music wont make people notice her on her own. And shes pretty much just copying what Madonna did decades earlier.

Comparing her to Madonna is doing Madonna a disservice (and she's fuckin' shite and all). Madonna reinvented herself but each time she did the entire package was a look, an image, a musical direction and she could explain to you exactly what she was trying to do with each step, you might disagree with it but thought went into it, it was an idea being executed...she didn't just change her costume every time.

It is not comparing talent or creativity. It is about publicity antics. What Miley is doing has been done before. How come in 30 years since Madonna all these pop divas are not capable to come up with something new or original? And why the media still cares? I guess they are asked to care by the industry

:shrugs:

This. I pretty much meant ripping her off without any originality whatsoever...and the media is ridiculous, just like theyre playing up Kanyes acceptance speech like it was deep or something. But thats a whole other story ha.

Well, if that's how Duff thinks about her, then that's just how it is. Will not really make me think any different about the guy, and I hold huge respect and cannot thank Duff enough for what he done for me. That's the beauty thing about opinions and how one can express them. I do not think too highly for Miley Cyrus, but then again, I do not know or do not care about knowing her anyway, but if Duff has a different opinion of her, then so be it. Nothing wrong with that.

There's very few times I disagree with Duff. This is one of them.

A few years ago I would have agreed. But she's gone way off the deep end to consider her a "strong woman", or a role model for little girls in any sense of the word. She goes about "doing what she wants" in absolutely the wrong and most childish ways. There is a way to grow up gracefully and anyone that watched her host the VMAs last week shows she isn't doing that at all. She actually turned from being a very pretty girl to just being outright disgusting.
