Terminator Franchise (New film on the way)

The whole universe thing and story shouldn't be the focus. Terminator is robot killing machine hunting humans. I liked 3 but it gets boring when they have to stand around explaining what is going on. Just drop the Terminator in and have them hunt down John Connor's mum or cousin. Then drop Armie in to be the bodyguard. Pick a destination. Terminator Vegas. Get Vince and Charlie to be casino security guards who have to save the world with Arnie.

I love Emilia Clarke but she fucking sucked as Sarah Connor.

While not ugly, Linda Hamilton wasn't some sexpot with big titties- she's very believable as that character...Clarke?

Awful casting choice.

Like Arnold (and Ed Furlong), Hamilton was/is irreplaceable.

This and you need James Cameron.

I'd me more interested in a movie, you can make as many spin off's as you want, but man people want Arnold to be in the Terminator cause he is THE TERMINATOR.

If they make another movie, I hope they do and I hope they make it a better one this time.

A Terminator television show set during the future war could actually be really good if done right. That's probably about the best thing they could do right now.

Here's the thing though. One of the things wrong with Salvation that it took place in a world that is already destroyed. Terminator was always about preventing Skynet from destroying the earth and Skynet preventing John Connor from being born or becoming leader of the resistance. In Salvation, we know Connor will win. So who cares? That twist in Genysis would have worked if they didn't give away in the trailers.

Admittedly I have yet to see Genesis (I'm not fighting autocorrect on that one ) but I do agree. I liked the plot of the film in theory. It was a good idea not to reboot it per se but go back into the first movie and alter history. It's pulling a Back to the Future: Part 2 which is obviously really cool on paper. It sounds like it was the casting and execution more than anything that ruined it. I do plan on buying it but I was in no rush to see it in theatres just as I wasn't when Salvation came out (in that case I regret buying the DVD - what a waste of shelf space).

It was the script or how to make a movie that was missing from Genisys. It was made by studio execs it seems. You can't have characters standing explaining everything at the beginning, that's amateur hour. you can do it much slicker and cooler and less insulting to the audience. Use music or camera work to suck audience into realising oh shit this is hsppening. If in Backnto future was like ok heres the flux capacitor, this is Marty he's going back in time now and fuck up history. Show, don't tell.

Anyone seen that straight to DVD zombie movie Arnold did last year yet?

Yeah, it was alright...had a bit of heart, a Zombie movie my mum would (did) watch.

Arnie was good in it.

Okay, sweet. Sabotage also went straight to DVD (at least here in Canada) and it might have been his best film since True Lies.

Arnold was fucking horrible on Sabotage. He ruined the movie for me.

I can't really detect a discernible difference between his acting in Sabotage and anything in his filmography.

It seemed like Terminator Genisys had killed the Terminator franchise once and for all, but a new hero is coming back: James Cameron. Cameron, who wrote and directed the first two films, regains the rights in 2019 and is reportedly working with Deadpool director Tim Miller on a brand new film.

According to Deadline, Cameron is working with Miller, who would direct “a reboot and conclusion of one of cinema’s great science fiction tales.” Current rights holder David Ellison—whose company co-financed Terminator Genisys—is involved in the process, “bankrolling an exploratory effort that includes engaging some top-flight science fiction authors to find the movie creatively.”

So if he's working with Tim Miller, I guess that means Miller will direct it but that Cameron will produce and write it. That makes enough sense since Cameron is devoting most of his energy to the Avatar sequels right now. Cameron's writing and vision is the most important part. My guess is Arnold returns. He's certainly interested in it. Even after it was announced that Emilia Clarke was stepping down and the franchise was on hold, Arnold still said he was interested in a sixth film. The whole "living human tissue that still ages" angle they used to work him into Genisys was about as good of an explanation as you could want to explain his age.

Interesting that they call it both a "reboot and conclusion" since those terms seem a bit contradictory. Alright, so he wants to end the franchise properly which is good, but that makes it unclear how much of the more recent entries his ignoring or if it will be something else entirely. God, what a mess of a series.

Imagine trying to explain these movies to someone in another ten years:

"Yeah watch the first two, but the second two don't count, then watch the 2019 one, but you're okay to watch the 2015 one since it explores an alternate timeline, but the ending of that one is no longer canon so make sure you stop it literally as soon as the credits start."

I'm one of the few who enjoyed Genisys, but man, talk about a series that should have died (and did, more or less) without Cameron. Ironically, he's the one we have to blame.

I really didn't care for Deadpool, but I'm not predisposed to like that character or Ryan Reynolds.

Other than a journeyman like Tim Miller directing, this is the most wonderful news I've heard since the GN'R rebranding.

I worship the altar of Cameron and Terminator is the most sacred of his creations. I thought we were doomed to watch nothing but Avatar movies from this guy.

The fact that he's interested, the fact that he wants to be creatively involved, the fact that he still thinks there's gas in the Terminator car, brings such joy to me.

But Miller is no Cameron. Dead pool was a success because it was a marvel explotation movie. Not because it had a style that signified a talented director. I've always said, if you're going to hand the keys to Terminator over to anyone other than Cameron, you hand them to his ex-wife; Kathryn Bigelow.

She's the only one with a visual flair like Cameron, who can do action like Cameron and tell a story about characters that you truly care about.

Just let the bloody thing end. It cannot end gracefully now as you have destroyed that by making turds since T2. Alien/Aliens also - you buggered that one up.

This x1000. Both franchises are damaged beyond repair and the new Alien film looks like it'll be the same exact shit as the last few were. There's nowhere to go with either universe at this point.
