gunsfanoldie
The topic title says it all. The world is just a little bit better now that these two have mended their fences. I'm so happy to see this:

Len Cnut
Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes YES!!!!!Arsenal supporters too . Shame they couldnt make it up like Quaife was alive. Nice one though, God bless. Not too fussed about a reunion, nice to see two brothers back on the same page though, one of my favouritest bands of all time and easily one ofThe best and most consistent of all time. Georgy Zhukov
They must have been inspired by news of Axl and Slash reconciling.

Len Cnut
I dont mind if they dont tour, Daves been quite ill and everything, just nice to see one of my most favourite bands getting along. Would've been great to see Avery, Quaife and the original lot all together.Have they been teasing? I thought they were pretty adamant. I agree with you Len but if they are healthy enough I would love to see them one more time. They are a criminally underrated and under appreciated band IMHO.........
Len Cnut
You could argue them as being the most original band of that era, easily the most literary in terms of the songs themselves, always forward thinking, always bucking the trend...as they were rowdy as fuck too and from North London, proper Arsenal boys...in Len speak that makes them the greatest thing since a sliced loaf. One of few bands highly respected through every era and every movement for their day through to punk and all that came after, Blur, Oasis, grunge, just totally respected. Pete Townshend started writing songs to try and be like Ray Davies, Cant Explain is basically Pete trying to make a Kinks song. And fuck me was Dave Davies a guitarist, check out that solo on All Day and All of the Night. DirtyDeeds
Sweet. When I saw the name "Dave Davies" in a topic title, I had a sinking feeling in my gut, thinking the worst. But this was a very pleasant surprise!

They were a great influence on many British bands of the 60's....I love the story where Dave explains he got the fuzz guitar sound in You Really Got Me by slicing the cone of the speaker in his amp with a razor so it would buzz... one of the first guitar effects

dalsh327
I've been listening to their back catalog lately, forgot how great One From The Road is as a live album. I think this was one of the first concerts for home video.
username
Criminally underrated band. I wish Ray and Dave would tour together. I've only seen Ray at Arrow Rock Festival 2006. Really enjoyed that. Edited October 8, 2016 by username

Fitha_whiskey
Love the Kinks. Especially Ray & Dave's last name- same as mine. I like to think they're my old uncles or something. That's also why I enjoy all the British banter on here. My heritage is 50% Welsh, 25 each English & Irish. It goes without saying that I'm drunk right now.

Len Cnut
There is a school of thought that says The Kinks did everything better than their contemporaries, more experimental and braver than The Beatles, harder RnB than The Stones, more rauccous than The Who, they had the better concept albums, the most literary writer and frontman...and they have had a longer run of quality albums than the above too, according to said school of thought. Norweigian Wood is often stated as the first use of sitar in western pop music but it is in fact predated by See My Friends by The Kinks. There are even those who says that a lot of the early snarling Kinks vocals were a direct influence on John Lydon and his particular sneering delivery. Not sure I'm entirely with that but its worth noting that The Kinks were one of Rottens most favourite bands from his formative youth. Didn't they keep getting in trouble in the states and lead to a ban on touring? Imagine if they were allowed to tour? They could have been one of the biggest rock bands in the world. But I think it was a good thing they didn't have to appeal to American audiences. Their songs became less pop and more thoughtful. Arthur is one of the greatest albums of all time. Edit: Actually, they were one of the biggest bands in the world. Just not in the United States but I am sure fans imported their records. I think they were a better band for it. Apparently it was a mixture of rowdy performances, Ray Davies smacking some record company guy for saying that England was little more than a socialist country in the throes of collapse and also, because of their management ditched em whilst in the US no one was doing their admin work and a result of this was they hadnt paid their dues to the recording guild or whatever the fuck they're called for their performance on Ed Sullivan. They could even be said to be the first concept album band. Edited October 11, 2016 by Len Cnut
dalsh327
They had a good run in America in the 70s and 80s to make up for lost time, I know his "Americana" book gets into the Arista years up to getting shot in New Orleans. Dave also had a book out years ago and of course "X-Ray". Hinman's book is more about the geek stuff - recording sessions, tour dates, etc. http://ultimateclassicrock.com/kinks-in-america/ Sopranos gave this song new life -

Were they producing better albums than your dodgy 1980s Stones efforts and those two ropey Who albums with that drummer from the Faces?
