Popular Post Len Cnut
Pop music suddenly seems kinda pointless. If you REALLY think about what Bowie laid down it is really quite phenomenal. I mean for 40 years he was a guaranteed good album maker. Despite being one of the greatest most beloved artists in popular music i still think he was sort of underrated. I mean to be THAT reliable for quality...most bands that were like that, or artists, pulled it off by commiting to a formula that the culture kinda fell in love with...but David flipped it everytime...thats fucking mind-blowing. But more than that he kinda made it magical...he comes from a time and from a kind of music that sort of set the standard for the times i was born in, they were pretty much ALL trying to be Bowie in 1983/84 on some level. He was from a time that made music kind of unreachable and magical and awe-inspiring, there is some meaning to this, some far-reaching meaning, been trying to get it right in my head what it is and I haven't really been able to...i think pop music might've just died. Or rather everything that i saw in pop music that i thought was it's greater value, the more i think about it the more i come to realise that all that was was just David Bowie. That was where it came from. And now it's all over. Edited January 11, 2016 by Len B'stard

DieselDaisy
The mortality rate for being a rock star is fairly low. If you want to live a long life, do not become a rock star.

Popular Post Towelie
The thing is with David Bowie, he was always great, till his last breath. His last few albums, Heathen, Reality, The Next Day and Blackstar... some of that shit is as good as anything from his golden era and how many artists can you truly say that about? He was making vital work literally till the day he fucking died. Go watch the video to the title track from his new album Blackstar, I mean Jesus fucking Christ, who makes music like that anymore? Music of that quality, depth and originality? And at 69, I mean, it's unprecedented really, to be pushing 70 and be making work as vital as you did in your early 20s.

alfierose
This is very shocking, seriously what the hell is happening now, we are losing so many people. Sadly, for a myriad of reasons, we are not seeing musical icons created at the rate we are now losing them. This is only going to get worse over the next 20 years, guys like Bowie were groundbreaking artists and I don't know if it's possible to ever replicate that going forward. That's not to say great music isn't created ever these days but icons are rarely made IMO.
