Happy that Alex Garland at least got Best Screenplay nod for Ex Machina though I'd put it forward for Picture and Director as well.

Great to see Mad Max get awards recognition, nobody could have predicted any of its commercial or critical success during its troubled development and production.

Need to see The Revenant to decide whether Chivo Lubezki is going for his third-in-a-row Oscar or if Roger Deakins is going to finally get the recognition he deserves for his wonderful work as cinematographer.

Simple Song #3 (Youth) should win Original Song. It's a masterpiece.

And as per usual Bond is left out, apart from that terrible song. Spectre was not the greatest Bond but you would think it at least deserves a nomination for FX or cinematography.

I was pretty shocked SPECTRE got snubbed on Cinematography. Say what you will about it, but that movie LOOKED goddamn beautiful, right from the opening tracking shot.

As for Visual Effects, Fury Road owns that category. Absolutely no contest there.

Still need to see five of the Best Picture noms, so can't say much there.

Only watched about 30 minutes of Trumbo but Cranston was good, but I'm rooting for DiCaprio or Fassbender. Would love to see Leo finally get it, but wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't. He did great in the Revenant and went through a whole lot of shit through filming, but in terms of an actual performance, I don't know if it'll warrant a win. Fassbender was great as Asshole-Steve Jobs though.

Alejandro for Director and Hateful Eight for Score.

I think Fassbender is Leo's biggest competition for Best Actor. I see an outside chance of Bryan Cranston getting it, but I'd still be surprised. Matt Damon was good enough in The Martian to land a Best Actor in a Comedy at the Golden Globes, but I don't think he was good enough to score an Oscar.

Lots of people thinking Innaritu won't win Best Director two years in a row. If he doesn't I'm rooting for Miller.

Morricone is a no-brainer for Best Score. That's as close to a guarantee as you can get at the Oscars, nothing even came close this year.

I'm sure Best Original Song will go to Writing's On The Wall, which has me deeply divided. On one hand, it's always great to see Bond recognized by the Academy. On the other hand...it's legitimately one of the worst things to ever happen in a Bond film :vomit:

My predictions for each category (Realistic, not hopeful. If I was going for hopeful, Fury Road would win all 10 of it's nominations):

Best Picture - The Revenant

Best Actor - Michael Fassbender

Best Actress - Saoirse Ronan

Best Supporting Actor - Tom Hardy

Best Supporting Actress - Jennifer Jason Leigh (I concede this one is a hope - I'm not familiar enough in this category)

Best Director - George Miller

Best Animated Feature Film - Anomalisa

Best Costume Design - The Danish Girl

Best Documentary Feature - Cartel Land (Total guess here, haven't seen any of the nominees)

Best Documentary Short - Last Day Of Freedom (See above)

Best Makeup & Hairstyling - Mad Max: Fury Road

Best Original Song - Writing's On The Wall

Best Animated Short - Prologue (Again, haven't seen any nominees)

Best Sound Editing - Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Best Film Editing - Mad Max: Fury Road

Best Foreign Language Film - Son Of Saul

Best Original Score - The Hateful Eight

Best Production Design - Mad Max: Fury Road

Best Visual Effects - Mad Max: Fury Road

Best Adapted Screenplay - The Martian

Best Original Screenplay - Ex Machina

Best Cinematography - The Revenant

I fully expect Fury Road to dominate in the technical fields, giving it the most wins despite not winning any of the major awards (Other than my belief that Miller will win Director). That's not me fanboy-ing out over it - the simple fact is that in the technical fields, nothing came even remotely close to it this year.
