Both Fortus and Slash would surely be able to pull the studio version off, there's in fact only one beginner level tapping lick in there and the rest isn't too bad either (though there's some fast legato shred at the end that Slash probably can't do).

Not sure about the killswitch lick, but they both use guitars with 2 volume controls that can be substituted for that - it's more of a style question, I don't think Slash ever did that technique and might rather play something else instead.

Judging by the other ChiDem songs played at the concert, Fortus plays Buckethead parts while Slash plays Finck parts

Happy that Fortus finally gets more time to shine instead of being stuck behind two other guitarists

That's the main gist of it, but it's not 100% like that, because Slash does the Bucket solo during the chromatic riff in Better.

I finally just listened to This I Love because I was super curious about everyone's complaints.  While I totally understand how it sounding so different can be jarring (and it does sound WAY different) I actually see this as a huge positive, because what we're actually hearing is how the song would have sounded had Axl and Slash produced it back in the 90's, and if we had been hearing it this way since then we would be trumpeting it as another GNR masterpiece.   The bigger piece that I find to be EXTREMELY positive is the fact that Axl allowed it to even be changed at all.  This is a piece (a very personal piece) from an album that Axl spent YEARS tinkering on to the point that when it was finally released it was in a form that he STILL wasn't happy with.  The fact that he allowed Slash to change the solo right from the jump shows me just how amicable the both of them are being and it speaks loads to the possibility of new music in the future.

More than the performance itself, this night was about redemption. And it happened. To see the big 3 in such a good vibe made my heart skip a beat. The way Axl was looking to Slash was too precious, like "I missed this fucker so much!"

Can't wait to see them in Brazil! Long livw GNR!

Got to say I was thoroughly impressed with Axl's vocal delivery. You can tell he wants to push himself on songs that people rip him for. Like he purposefully added rasp to Rocket Queen and was obviously trying to on You Could Be Mine as well. Fucking great performance, problem with Axl is, the guy has superhuman talent, anything less than Paris '92 and most people consider it "shit." It's insane. But even when he's using what people call his "Mickey Mouse" voice, he's got better tone on it, he's obviously worked on his head voice. Also, was he trolling with that Mickey t-shirt? Haha! What a guy!

Coma was really hard on hic vocals..I was suprirsed he managed to bounce back from it for the later songs..it's a total voice destroyer..but obviously, he managed to pull it off.

Just starting to get caught up now - so much to discuss! The new Better intro is really cool, and Slash's solo is killer. Totally different from Robin's but still fits the song so perfectly. That guitar and that voice were truly made for one another.

Good on Frank for reverting to the original Brownstone intro - it sounds great.

[3rd Wheel]

Here's my review and overall experience.

 

1.) T-Mobile Arena had no fucking clue what waa going on for how to get people in the arena quick. I stood still in the rain for 30 minutes on the left side of the big blob of people. Then I went to the right side on a chance and got inside within 3 minutes.

 

2.) Crowd took a while to get inside. I went up from my seat in section 13 about five sections and down to the 2nd row to watch AIC. Someone finally came and I went back up but there were about 15 instances when I almost tried hopping the railing and sneaking into the pit.

 

3.) Guns was awesome. The whole set was amazing. Axl looked like the most badass person in the world up there on that throne. And you could tell he was feeling how good the band was playing. You can tell he cares and is happy.

 

4.) When they started playing Coma, the crowd went nuts. And they nailed every part of it.

 

5.) I don't care anymore what people say about Izzy not being here. Richard fucking owned that first Wish You Were Here solo. That was, in my opinion, the coolest part of the show. The band, minus Axl, just fucking annihilating one of the greatest songs by one of the greatest bands in music history. Richard was indoctrinated into GNR lore in that moment for me.

 

6.) Seeing Axl, Slash and Duff jamming out to the cover they did before November Rain -- I know the song, I'm just tired and blanking on the name -- was surreal. It was just those three with the focus and all next to one another. That moment was up there in the best of the show.

 

7.) God damnit, Axl sounded so fucking good. Forget "2006 vocals." Hearing it live, he sounded like 1992 at times. He owned You Could Be Mine. Owned it. Major props to him for digging down deeeeeeeeep on some screams -- WTTJ, LALD, KOHD, Coma -- and all with a fractured bone in his foot. He's a fucking trooper and a rock n roll legend.

 

8.) Slash was getting LIT on some endings. His finish to Sweet Child was killer. And he did a hop and final chord right up to Axl's throne. Someone said it was like he and Richard were his knights. That is perfect. Especially then. Slash jumping around on ChiDem and holding the guitar up to the sky on some of those UYI rockers was awesome. His guitar on Estranged was sick. That was the first time he really got visibly psyched when a song started. Happened again for Coma and Nighttrain.

 

9.) Duff doesn't get much attention but God damn his stage presence is amazing. He knows how to balance the stage based on where Richard and Slash -- and usually Axl -- move so it's not overcrowding one side and forgetting the other. And his singing on New Rose was pretty stellar.

 

10.) Melissa was getting hype back there for some intros and got mega stoked when Estranged started. I love her addition. Honestly. She adds something fresh to the band. She looks like what all of us would look like if we were on stage with GNR. Just hopping around and being turnt like you're on speed. Very energetic. Love it.

 

11.) I'm not a drumming expert but Frank seemed on point with the UYI rockers and Brownstone. Not a huuuuge fan of his drumming for November Rain but overall I felt the extra pizzazz at the end of it was so epic and killer any mistakes didnt matter. Frank on Estranged was pretty awesome.

 

12.) When they walked off for the final time, Slash gave Frank a huge hug. Then Axl hobbled by with his crutches and you could tell Axl and Slash were chatting together -- with no one else around -- as they exited. Pretty cool to see. Axl also smiled at Slash the first time he introduced him and said, "You all know this guy," and then smiled at him like he was his brother.

 

13.) I dont give a shit about Axl being on the throne and immobile. Just seeing him dancing and grooving to the music was enough. And he sounded fucking great. His voc performance matched the rest of the band's performance. Axl ruled man. Estranged and Coma. Holy shit.

 

14.) When they came out for the encore and played "Patience," the crowd went nuts. That was song I hoped theyd play. My personal favorite. Up there in top moments but the Civil War, Estranged and Coma plays were the best all-around performances of any individual songs.

 

 

15.) This incarnation of Guns N' Roses is fucking killer. This is the best band in the world. No doubt in my mind. Axl, Slash, Richard, Duff, Frank, Dizzy and Melissa. That's Guns N' Fucking Roses and God damnit they are fucking incredible. That was the best show they've had and the best the band has sounded since 1991 at Rock in Rio 2. Of course, that is subjective and people will disagree about placing it above other shows. Whatever. They fucking killed it. A-plus. They made this $1,000 trip worth it and I'll be seeing them at least two times this summer.

 

16.) Seriously. They fucking ruled.

What can I say guys, RollingStone.com called it EPIC. And so will I, amazing, Axl kept is voice through out the show, yes some parts I head the mickey thing. But overall he sounded amazing. The best part for me was Coma of course, Axl did the outro like a pro! The worst for me, Ferrer, he needs to play to a clicktrack, DTJ was soooo fast Slash couldn't keep up with him. CD songs sound great with slash.

I read around here about Slash not being into it, not true, he was very well into it.

GO SEE THEM!
