NAMM showstoppers: Guns N' Roses Duff McKagan Rotosound collaboration?

Having recently announced their long-awaited reunion, rumour has it that US rock legend Duff McKagan of Guns N’ Roses could be set to enter a new partnership with UK string specialist Rotosound.

One such story that wasn't actually announced at the show, but can certainly be posted in the ‘ones to watch’ category concerns longtime Rotosound endorsee, Duff McKagan.

As endorsements go, having Guns N’ Roses bass player McKagan on board is a solid bet. Their album Appetite For Destruction, released back in 1987, sealed the fortunes of these LA rockers, going on to become the biggest selling debut rock album of all time, selling over 18 million copies in the US alone and over 100 million albums worldwide.

It was Rotosound 45-105 strings that McKagan used on the album and he’s continued to fly the Rotosound flag ever since. “One constant in my ever-changing careers and thoughts on rhythm, has been my Rotosound Swing Bass strings, nothing else comes close,” McKagan commented.

The announcement in December 2015 that the original Guns N’ Roses lineup featuring McKagan would go on tour for the first time in 20 years caused an immediate response across the band’s social networking platforms, with a headline slot at Coachella Festival in Indio and a 25-date stadium tour through 2016 of North America also showing there was certainly no decline in appetite from the fans to watch the band.

During last week’s NAMM show, MI Pro learnt that Rotosound chairman Jason How and his wife Kathy were personally invited by the band to attend their rehearsals in Los Angeles to meet McKagan and spent time chatting with him about a new collaboration with the iconic British string manufacturer.

“I can’t really say anymore at this stage,” commented How. “But it’s really exciting, so watch this space!”

An announcement is expected sometime in February 2016.

I love how he says he used swing bass strings his whole career. In the 90s he clearly used Spacers. Black strings with multicolored silks on the ends. They were discontinued and two years ago were rebranded and reintroduced as "Nexus" strings. They sound great.

25-date stadium tour through 2016 of North America

An announcement has to be fairly imminent.

Makes you wonder what the hell is going on behind the scenes and why nothing hasn't been announced yet, doesn't it?!

Idk I would think something is coming soon but it makes you wonder..

Read the article they are saying that was announced, but it hasn't been.

I'm guessing it was scheduled to be announced by now. Hopefully the whole shebang gets announced ASAP.

I would think with Vegas being sold out is a good sign we'll get more dates. Hopefully very soon.

You never know. These promotors may want to wait until after Vegas to see that things haven't fallen apart since there's so much risk involved.. Which would suck and hopefully that's not the case but idk, it just seems strange to me that it's been almost a month since the coachella announcement confirming this "reunion" with nothing else..

For all we know they've got a big announcement planned for February 11th or something. Just a day I pulled out of my rear but nevertheless there's no reason to press the panic button yet. Yes it seems quiet but we're also tracking and analyzing their every move or lack thereof.
