Popular Post KeyserSoze
okay okay, so i know there are many things more important than this in the GNR world right now, but i visited one of my local Hard Rock Cafes today and saw there was a couple of things that GNR had used and signed since their inception and it got me thinking.. i wonder if any of the GNR Scholars on here have a list or something of GNR stuff that is gracing the walls of hard rock cafes/casinos/hotels across the world and the back stories behind them and maybe if they are even fake or not. Feel free to move this to the memorabilia section if it doesn't fit the current discussion section i know the Hard Rock has a mini online database of things that they have in their cafes, but there are way more things then those on the website, so don't try to feed me that link to shut me up! I feel as if the pieces on their website are the major pieces that they have accumulated from that particular artist. I don't know if this would be a cool thing to do or not, so i just thought id give it a try. I figure it might give an outlet to people who have seen or taken pictures with GNR memorabilia and haven't shown anyone expect the people on their facebooks. it might be a little boring at first for people who have seen the hard rocks website already, but my hope is that it will grow over time with pictures (maybe we can even match that piece of gear up to the time they used it on stage based on old pictures etc, etc) as far as i know this is the list: Atlantic City, New Jersey one of Slashes guitars is on display here. It is a 30th Anniversary Les Paul Goldtop with EMG pickups and Slashes fading signature Beirut, Lebanon One of Slashes stage worn shirts is on display here. I wasn't able to get the photo from the Hard Rocks Website, but the shirt is for an all female rock group by the name of Vixen. . Its basically the artwork for their self titled album. Berlin, Germany One of Matt Sorums snare drums from the UYI tour is on display here. The Snare is a Yamaha and is signed by Sorum and dated 1995. Bangkok, Thailand One of Izzys personal Les Paul Pros is on display here. It is signed by him, but is fading away. Anyone know in what capacity Izzy used this? Another guitar is up on the wall in the corner and looks like it has a bit of history to it, or it could be a guitar the hard rock just got one of the guys to sign since i see a signature, but i can't read: Bali, Indonesia One Of Slashes B.C. Mockingbird guitars is on display here. The description on the website says that this particular one is in the video for You Could Be Mine, but i believe this is a hoax. The one at the Hard Rock has too many switches to be the one from the video, but the dead giveaway is the fret inlays. They are completely different. Biloxi, Mississippi There is a slash top hat signed by Slash in 1995, right before his announced departure from GNR. There is a 1989 Les Paul Standard signed by Izzy Stradlin and dated 1990. Im interested to know what show it was used at, being that the description says it is staged used. There is a black leather jacket with the AFD cross on the front that looks the exact same as the white jacket from the Paradise City video. Im sure all of the crew and band got a version of that jacket in whatever color they desired. There is also one of those congratulatory plagues marking ex-amount of sales for UYI1, and there is a much larger one celebrating Lies. (i do not have pictures of those 2) The last thing there is a MASSIVE poster promoting their July 6th 1993 Appearance at the Estadio Vincente Calderon in Madrid, Spain on the Skin and Bones tour.. The poster could defiantly fill the wall of a small room. Makes me wonder where it was used to promote the show. ( i also unfortunately do not have pictures of that.. idk what i was thinking) You can relieve that Estadio Vincente Calderon show here: Budapest, Hungary In Budapest, we have one of Izzys guitars that looks very close to the one that was in Bangkok. It was mentioned that it was used on the AFD tour. If anyone has any videos of that, that would be awesome. Also in the case is a vest made for Slash that he wore with Velvet Revolver, and a Gold Record commemorating a certain number of Record sales for AFD. Cairo, Egypt there is a guitar on the wall labeled GNR with a fading signature.. It looks like Duffs, but it is very hard to tell. Wonder if it was one of his Personal guitars? Curitiba, Brazil One of Izzys personal Les Pauls is on display signed by Izzy Detroit, Michigan One of Slashes custom made Les Pauls from the early 1990s is on display here. in all honesty it was probably a back up guitar, but he must have played it at least once or twice. I think this particular item went on the 40th Anniversary Tour that the Hard Rock did a couple years ago i visited the HArd Rock Detroit this passed weekend and received more info on this guitar. It was made by the Gibson Custom shop to Slashes specs and He brought it on the road for the end of the UYI tour. He also recorded most of TSI? on it. The case next to it commemorates 3,000,000 cassette sales of UYI 1. In a case next to this are Slashes leather pants that he worn by him in the Don't Cry Music video, and his gloves that he wore in the patience music video. Fiji Axls handwritten lyrics to the GNR Classic "My Michelle" Gatlinburg, Tennessee A Joetown Records t shirt with the devil sitting on the toilet smoking a cigarette is on display. The website says this shirt was owned by Slash from his GNR up until Snakepit Hamburg, Germany I don't believe this guitar was used by anyone in the band, but you never know. Looks like Duffs signature at the top Hollywood, California Izzy apparently used this guitar to record all of the songs on Lies. This guitar wasn't even Izzys.. He borrowed it from Robert Sarzo of the band Hurricane. I can't read the plaque, but i think this jacket may have been worn by Axl on stage at some point? If not its one of his personal jackets from the late 80s/Early 90s Las Vegas, Nevada One of Matt Sorums drum sets from the UYI tour days is on display. This specific kit was built by Yamaha for Sorum and is a silver sparkleish finish, and the drum artwork is the Skull with a bandana and Shotguns poking out of the sides. All drums are signed by Sorum and dated 1995. It looks like the kit used here in Argentina in 1992: Lisbon, Portugal i wonder if this is the same poster as the one in Biloxi? London, England Axl wore this jacket a lot towards the end of touring for Appetite for Destruction/Lies. I think he was first photographed wearing it on tour with the Stones in 1989. The "Warehouse", London, England These chaps that Duff wore at the 1989 AMAs, and according to him all during the Appetite For Destruction days are displayed on a mannequin in the visitable "Warehouse" underneath the London Hard Rock Cafe's Store. Having visited there, I'm pretty sure the shirt that is tied around the top of the mannequin is Slashes from that night as well. Right next to the mannequin is a version of Slashes "Snakepit" Les Paul. It looks like the Epiphone version with the black pickups, minus the snake logo, very weird in my opinion. Probably specially made for Slash himself! Madrid, Spain: in a letter dated October 2nd, 1979, 14 year old Slash writes a letter complete with cartoons, to one Michelle Young (who would later become the focal point of the GNR classic "My Michelle". in this letter, Slash talks about how Michelle broke up with him because he "talked about his guitar too much." He also talked about going to see Quiet Riot, who at that time had a young Randy Rhodes as the lead guitarist. Manchester, England An 1977 Gibson ES-350 once owned by Izzy now sits in the Hard Rock here. When the Hard Rock went to pick this guitar up, it is said that there was a note from Izzy that read "Twas once my baby" Munich, Germany A Les Paul signed by Matt, Duff, Axl (i don't really know if i believe the signature) and Slash dated 1992 is on display here Myrtle Beach, South Carolina Not much is mentioned about this piece on the website, but it looks as if Axls infamous black leather kilt from the UYI tour days/Freddie Mercury Tribute Show is on display. Im not sure if he had more then one of these, he probably did .. He's Axl Rose, but at least one of them is available for your viewing pleasure. New Delhi, India A vest that seems like it was given to all the members of the band by a concert promotor in Brazil in 1992 is on display here. This particular vest is Duffs and is signed by him and dated 2003. New York, New York Here we have one of Duffs basses that he used on the AFD and Illusions tours Niagara Falls, New York There is a Slash Shirt here that is grey and on the back has a yellow letter "F" with a circle around it. The website says it was used by Slash both in his GNR and Snakepit days Orlando, Florida Slashes blue, white, and black flannel from the November Rain video is on display here. Panama A pair of Slashes brown leather pants from the UYI tour days is on display here. I do vividly remember him wearing these at early 1991 shows. The Hard Rocks website incorrectly states that these pants are from the Estranged music video, but unless I'm blind, i can't find them. If fact i want to say these are the pair right here: Paris, France Monsters of Rock poster, AFD promo poster with Robert John photo that was used for the It's So Easy single, a black Les Paul paul and top hat with Slashes signature. There is also a photo in the case that might show where and when this guitar was used. There is also what looks like a picture vinyl for the Nightrain single, and a plague commenting AFD Phuket, Thailand Axls personal white jacket with the AFD cross and GNR Bullet Logo on the back is on display. I think one of these was given to every member of the crew back in the day. There is one in Biloxi that is an exact replica, but in Black. This seems to be Axls personal jacket since his name is stitched across the breast pocket. Im sure Axl had many of these, and some one correct me if I'm wrong, but i don't think this is the one from the PC video.. The one in the video is lacking the cross and the stitched "Axl" is on the right side, not the left like the one here. Punta Cana, Dominican Republic One of Matt Sorums stage used Drum sets from the UYI tours is on display here. Im not sure if this specific item was lost in the fire they had a couple years ago, but it is still mentioned on the website. This specific kit is kind of an orange burst, and the drum artwork has the classic skull with the tophat and guns and roses behind it with the circle of thorns. This specific set is signed and dated 1997. Matt was probably quick to get rid of this once he quit/was fired from GNR. one interesting note is that it doesn't seem to be a Yamaha, which Sorum seemed to use a bit during the UYI days Universal City, California Duffs outfit from the November Rain video is on display here, as well as what looks like a top hat, photos, record plaques, a copy of GNR lies on vinyl, and a very large AFD cross Hard Rocks that have absolutely no GNR Memorabilia in them: Hard Rock Louisville, Kentucky Har Rock New Orleans, Louisiana Edited April 30, 2018 by KeyserSoze

SoundOfAGun
Interesting read. I used to work at a Hard Rock Cafe before it closed down (Nottingham, UK). No GN'R memorabilia there unfortunately. But you were guaranteed to hear WTTJ/PC/SCOM at least once a shift!
Saltzy
The signed mic in my avatar was mailed back to me by the Hard Rock in Vegas after my friend and I caught it at the end of one of the shows during the residency a few years ago and their asshole security team confiscated it. I started a thread about the story here and it gained enough traction where they sent it back signed by the whole band. I'll always love this board for that. If you read my 1st posts ever here you can see the story. It was fucking awesome.

warebel
As I stay in Bavaro (Punta Cana is 20km from here) in Dominican Republic for almost 3 months now and saw Hard Rock Cafe but never visited that I decided to jump into car and go and check the place. I guess that is the place that you write about that should have Matt Sorum drum kit but unfortunately there was nothing from GNR inside I tried to ask about that but nobody was speaking English LOL! So I will give another shot tomorrow and maybe there will be someone who can speak English...

stella
The Hard Rock Cafe in New York City has one of Duff's white bass guitars, or they did several years ago. I remember taking a photo with it.

Scott20050_2
I Would find it very hard to believe any of that “memorabilia ” is authentic. The signatures on 95% of that stuff is fake. Axls white appetite jacket was stolen in Brazil. Fake cheap rubbish!!!!
johnelway
How can I find photos of the Charlie don't surf concert? Which concert it was when he wore that iconic shirt?
ssiscool
Pretty sure the info on the chaps and shirt from London is wrong. Sure that's the suit that Slash wore in November Rain video. Let me go thru my pics and check the plate. There was nothing at Picadilly when I went recently but did manage to choose a song to be played in the cafe. (Nightrain was chosen of course)
