06/23/16 - Detroit - Ford Field (More Pre-Party Info, Pg 10)

Any travel / safety concerns with Detroit are wildly outdated IMO. Downtown is a much, much better environment than it was even 5 years ago, let alone how long ago anything you've read is probably based on to be honest.

All the hotels in the area are vary safe and you'll find its very easy to get to Ford Field from any of them.

Flash seats is a Dan Gilbert thing I think.  Tons of fees.  Only can transfer tickets on their site.  No PDFs.  As far as safety in Detroit, even with improvements, obviously you have to be cautious travelling as a single female.

I think I'm getting old, but I'd prefer being in a seat on the floor over GA.  Last GA show I was at was in Youngstown, and, while I was only 2 or 3 back from the rail, waiting for GNR is better with a fixed location.  Also, everyone talking about GNR going on at 11 or after have to remember this is a weeknight.  I don't care myself, not working the next day, but the average fan deciding whether or not to go may factor in that they aren't getting home until 3am.  I bet they start earlier, like 10pm, and they'll start the show earlier if they get a big opener.

Don't let people scare you away from detroit.  I am not originally from here and when I moved here I was under the impression that the whole town was a burned down wreck.  There are bad areas like any city, but the downtown arena district, greektown and casinos are vibrant and safe.  People who haven't visited will be pleasantly surprised to see so many people walking around and having a good time.  This area is vibrant and safe.  Stay with a group and don't venture into the bad areas and you will be fine.  They are also building a new hockey arena and continuing to invest and make the town better.   Come visit, you'll have a blast and leave with a better opinion of our town.

Is anyone else kinda cheesed off by this whole "flash seat" thing? I can't even get actual tickets... Sometimes I hate the modern world we live. Seriously just mail me some freaking tickets.

Long time lurker on this board and LONG time GnR fan who just registered. Coming up from Columbus, Ohio with a friend for the Detroit show. I was cheesed first at Ticketmaster because of the crappy way the Nightrain presale went. I wanted Paul Brown stadium, second choice Heinz Field. Couldn't get either...got that annoying error everyone else did. Noticed the Detroit show was not directly on the tickemaster site so I gave it a shot. Went thru first time so I took what they gave me (section 206, row 2, 13-14). I was in such a rush because of the timer that I didn't notice the Flash Seat option that was the default...like some of you I'm a bit leery of driving so far without an actual ticket in my hand but my fears have been eased somewhat. My main concern was how do the tickets get from Lions site/Ticketmaster to your flash seats account. Called flash seats and I guess as long as you registered the app under the same email you bought the tickets with you are ok. Put my credit card info in for ID purposes as well. I guess you can print off the tickets when you go thru the door.

Pumped for the show and if its good I'll prob try to snag Paul Brown seats. Appreciate all the Detroit info here, never been there before. Thanks!

Well I just found out my aunt and uncle and some of their friends are going to the show. They are tailgating at eastern market. I've never heard of this, does anyone have any more info reguarding this? I guess it's a pretty popular thing to do.

As for the Flash Seats discussion, I'm going to be a sucker. Im gonna breakdown and pay the $20 fee. I want REAL tickets. But having said that, I don't doubt everything will be fine if you do have flash seats.

Eastern Market is a old school market place that is open very early am and is a place where local vendors sell fresh produce, flowers etc.  It's a cool place and not far from ford field.  Depending on how many people are there it could be a good place to hang out.  The other hot spot to visit, (but not a place to tailgate) would be greektown.  If you are in the eastern market district check out the Russel Street Deli.

Yeah don't get too worried about flash seats. They've been using them for Cavs games in Cleveland for years. Just make sure you have added an id or credit card to your flash account before you go. They just scan it and cheap paper tickets print out right at the admission gate. Don't need to go to will call or anything. I wonder with the size of these shows if Nighttrain will sponsor an official pre-party. That'd be a really cool perk. Even if it was just admission to a private place and everything else was out of pocket.

now that is a great idea that will not likely happen. Although the meetup in Vegas has promise.

can I highjack this thread? I am from friendly/polite Toronto...and I am/was (??) willing to take the 4 hour drive to your lovely city....by myself (yikes)....but my husband is against it (he's threatening to take up motorcycling if I go) and I'm scirrrred. I was trying to convince a strong friend to come but she won't take time off from work to go. Is this a pipe dream? I just know if you google "detroit" travel advisories come up.... TIA  *wishing right about now I was a 6 foot 4 muscle head guy*

I am from Windsor. Here is the best advice for you. Stay in Windsor and take the tunnel bus over. It will drop you off at the concert and pick you up afer and take you back to Windsor. If you are not staying over night, park you car in downtown Windsor and take the bus over. Round trip is like $7-$8 much cheaper than paying for parking in downtown Detroit.I live in Windsor and I never drive to a concert in downtown Detroit I always take the tunnel bus. I hope this helps. If you need any other info let me know.

I got a pair in 129. They were only the $150 tickets even though 128, the next section back, were $250 - go figure. Maybe I'll upgrade to pit though if I can find a decent price.

Mod Squad in da house for this one

OH DAMN!

So that's what? You, @downzy @gunsguy and I for sure with a possibilty of @Black Sabbath?

As you might imagine, I'm planning a ridiculous pre-party at my crib and things just went up a notch!

Damn, I just saw that this is a Wednesday. For some reason I thought it was a weekend. This just may not happen. Good thing I held off. Being at the advanced age of 44 and having work and kids and moving, this may not happen. Good thing I grabbed Toronto!

It's Thursday, surely that's close enough to the weekend to go ahead and join us! :)
