My feet are hurting from jumping, my head is aching from banging and I swear that at the back of my throat, I could taste my tonsils bleeding from all my screaming. This exceeded all my expectations. One of my happiest days ever, and I almost had to give this a pass. Off to bed now since I've got to get to work in the morning. I'll post a detailed review as soon as I can. I know this board is a melting pot, with lots of folks who clamor for DJ's return, along with Robin, Tommy, Chris Putnam, etc. But, having seen various incarnations of that band three previous times (Manchester, UK/ 2010 Phoenix, AZ/ 2011 Hollywood, CA/ 2012) I feel I can say this with at least some credibility...Axl never looked as happy as he did tonight with "Nu GNR". I'm not a "classic GNR Nutter", I thoroughly enjoyed the other shows I've been to. But Axl went to another level tonight, at least it appeared that way to me. He hit all the notes. Mickey Mouse was in hibernation, thank God. He had a big smile on his face all night. I felt like I could tell he was giving a little more effort than normal, maybe because of the crowd, maybe the band was firing on all cylinders and he wanted to match them, I don't know..I just know he sounded great tonight. Absolutely fucking awesome for 54. Slash also sounded great, and the band overall sounded really tight.. I dug Fortus' little funk jam, which he did during Rocket Queen, if memory serves. He and Slash do have some synergistic value..But Richard is just a bit too technical for this band IMO. He's definitely got the chops, but he puts new metal flavor in Appetite songs that sound best played with a slight hint of messy..like Slash when his fingers are flying during a solo. Anyway, I predict this show gets outstanding reviews. The band gelled wonderfully. Where they go from here is up to them, but right now, they have the world eating out of their hands.
