I highly doubt your experience was so much better than mine that it would ever make me want to step foot into the cesspool of GA. Yes. It was. On the first show, I came in about an hour before GNR hit the stage and was in the 5th row. On the second show I stood in line for about 1 and a half hours and was in the third, then in the second row. Both times right in front of Axl, between Axl and Slash. Popular Post God of Thunder
I guess the main reason for all the seating in the US is, that they can charge more money for the seats. I really wanted to go see some shows in the US, but after I have seen how the US ticketing works with so many different ticket prices, packages and shit I refuse to support this. First of all compared to European tickets are ridiculously overpriced. E.g. I have seen AC/DC (which is the much bigger band at least in Europe) 3 times last year and the highest price I paid was 170USD. And there I was able to get front of stage, like 10 meters away from Angus. I have to say I absolutely loved the AC/DC ticketing system. They had only 3 prices in the stadiums. One for GA standing on the floor, one for good seats, one for worse seats. So if you are a huge fan, all you had to do, you had to be there about 3 hours before the opener started in order to get free access to the area front of stage area which is seperated with a barrier. There you get a special wristband when entering so until the band starts you are free to move all around the stadium, have beers, food, meet people. If you are really a hardcore fan you can still choose to reserve yourself a place right in front and not move for the next 6 hours The argument about security: I have been to so many shows, the biggest one with about 120.000 people with about 80% GA standing. Yeah sometimes it gets a little tight and once during a Rage against the Machine concert it got really a little too wild, but I have not seen once a really serious incident. Even in the moshpit, where it can get really exhausting, people would always help you up when you fall, or make room when you wanted to get out. Also the stadiums are usually secured with several crowd barriers, that prevent the ones in front to get smashed. Maybe it is also a different mentality in the US: Maybe people go to shows there like they go to the movies or a sportsgame; have there reserved seat, everything is organized, on time, light beer and then go home. I don`t know, but this is not for me. For me a concert is a unique event that I look forward to for days or weeks. Therefore I don`t mind at all being a little early there, meet all these new people who are also there early, sit in the sun listening to the DJs long before the show, have a smoke, wonder how these kids next to you were able to smuggle in a gaint stash of weed, while the father next to you tries to do his best to convince his 3 kids that the band they are going to see is so much better than Kanye West, have a few drinks with old and new friends, rock out during the shows, sing, headbang and scream together with complete strangers, and flirt with that sweaty rock chick that just fell into you while crowdsurfing (because you were to fascinated to watch Axl scratch his balls instead ...), getting lost when coming back from the beer stand and try to carry 20 beers for all your new best friends though the crowds (of course on the way some beers always magically vanish...), For me all this little things belong to a real rock event. I don`t just want to "consume" a rock show, I want to live it. I really don`t see that happening with super organized blocks with chairs everywhere, several hundred bucks VIP tickets blocking the front of the stage, while the real fans are spread all over the place (because of the price, super limited GA availability and of course that the stupid ticketing system does not give you the tickets you want).

CAFC Nick
One thing missing for me in the Vegas shows was being able to see the guys eyeballs! As strange as it sounds, making eye contact with the musicians is such a strong connection that it really makes you feel part of the moment. I had my own space and could get beer anytime I wanted. Plus I had to piss once, was so easy to run to the bathroom with no headaches. Being in GA would have ruined the entire experience. ceres
I'm debating when to pull the trigger on GA pit seats on StubHub for Chicago. I think they will either come down in price or sell out. Anyone else buy GA pit for Chicago yet? How much did you pay? They are stubhub right now for $400.
Rubicon
Standing tickets in Europe are really cheap. I think Mötley was 85€, Aerosmith around the same and AC/DC and Maiden are a bit more expensive around 120€ or something. Seating tix are mostly 150-190€. So from what I read here the prices in the US are overpriced like hell. Why is that? I'm a bit shocked...

Is there any point in attending the parking lot for two Norwegians without a car then? I will be with a group of 20 or so, so you could always party with us or there is a huge bar basically in the middle of the parking lot called "xfinity live" a lot of people go there before concerts and sporting events to eat and grab a few drinks

Festivals are always cheaper. I personally don't like festivals. It's way too crowded, the beer is warm and it's almost impossible to see the headlines from a decent spot in the front... Btw: I take it you're from Hungary? Dude, you've got the most awesome GnR tribute band ever ?

wp9215
I've seen/heard Axl complaining so many times about people being squished up against the stage in the pit, that I think that might be part of the reasons they kept those areas so small. It even happened during Paradise City at the Troubadour, where he stopped the song and asked everyone to move back. I think he isn't a huge fan of GA. Johnny Drama
Sorry if you're on the floor but ain't headbanging/moshing/surfing/eviscerating vocal chords, you're wasting valuable space for hardcore fans. Just my experience.

GnR Chris
How many "rows" deep will the PIT areas be? Because, yeah, they look small. At Coachella, I was right along the side of the soundbooth at main stage, which was nice and it was a decent view, but it's NOTHING compared to being a few rows deep. I saw Slash front row and about 10 rows back before and the experience of being able to actually SEE the performars, not just a screen or a faint silhouette, is really better. Plus people up close are the diehards with all the energy. Farther back and people are running their mouths. I saw Guns N' Roses about six rows back at the House of Blues and that was incredible too. Standing for a long time seems miserable, but when Guns hits the stage, you don't think about that. The energy up front is FAR better and FAR more memorable. All that said, I couldn't get GA pit for the Chicago show July 1. But I did get it for July 3. Bought the pair and I may have one available at FACE (plus taxes). If you live in Chicago and can meet up and are interested, let me know. I'll know tonight if I have the extra ticket. Again, July 3, Soldier Field, GA pit (Duff side of stage).
