Why not a GNR/ACDC Super Bowl half time show?

UmK.   Interviews have nothing to do with the excitement on this forum about Axl joining AC/DC and until Saturday night we were in the minority on people actually being excited about that prospect anyway.

More people are excited about it now as a result of his actual performance not some hackneyed interviews and a few 30 second to one minute promo spots on Facebook.

you are right the reason why nostalgia rock acts aren't being chosen is for a reason, the exact reason why GnR seems unlikely...demographics.

The Granmy's?  Who cares?

1- interviews played a factor. Acdc had a lot of unanswered questions and they answered them. They didn't go on a national tour of talk shows for radio and tv. They did a few brief clip and a BBC interview. They didn't reveal everything and no one demanded that they should. They created comfort in helping the audience understand what they are watching. GNR hasn't. It's played a factor, and my opinion there is the same as it was in January and February. I didn't go to Vegas so yeah, I'm not blinded by adrenaline because the band is playing coma and Chinese stuff. It's not asking much, really for GNR to do the same before the stadium shows.

2- axl sounds great. He's doing acdc justice. The fans are getting that.

3- Demographics and target audience is the same thing. Acdc could do a halftime show before losing Brian. GNR "reunited" could too. The two factions together would be deadly and people would want it. It's more about dependability.

4- *Grammy's. And it was just an example, which you know. My words aren't getting twisted here.

Lol, I bet he would love to front Black Sabbath too. Why not!

I think Axl likes straight up Rock N Roll and despite all his experimentation over the years, I think he likes to think of himself as singing in a Rock n' Roll band. Despite many people mis-labelling AC/DC and GN'R as metal bands, they are essentially Rock N' Roll bands. Black Sabbath is a Rock N' Roll band too, but I really don't ever recall Axl saying anywhere that he was influenced by them or a big fan of Black Sabbath. It's usually the metal bands that go ga-ga over them (btw, I love Black Sabbath). I've heard him say he was influenced by Halford's singing for Judas Priest, but I cannot imagine him ever fronting that band. Also, irrespective of him loving Queen and being a great fan of Freddie Mercury and doing well at the Freddie Mercury tribute, I just don't see Axl singing clean and with the range that Queen requires. Again, for that matter, he loves the Rolling Stones too. But, I cannot ever imagine him fronting the Rolling Stones either and prancing around or singing like Sir Mick. Just not a fit.

The current situation is both unique and propitious. The right singer for a band at the right time. It just all came together right.

I'm pretty sure it's the 2006 Eddie trunk show he gatecrashed. I can't remember exactly what he said but I remember him talking about it and saying Ozzy is an influence on him. Then he picked ace of spades to be played. I don't know how to link lol

Oh, okay thanks. I remember listening to a recording back then. But the Black Sabbath bit didn't stick to mind.

The NFL isn't interested in featuring a rock n roll band for the halftime show.

Remember a few years ago when the Chili Peppers had to come on as guests for some pop culture loser?    They weren't even plugged in.

In a perfect world, bands with the stature of Chili Peppers, Metallica, Ac/Dc, and Guns N Roses would be headlining the super bowl.    Problem is, the Super Bowl doesn't want those bands.    They want pop culture, mainstream bullshit.

Maybe I'm old school but I find SB half times to be cheesy and for sell outs. Watching the Chili Peppers jump around and play interments that weren't even plugged in flat out buried them for me. Such a disgrace.

It was even more unfortunate that they weren't even the main act.. they were guests of some pop culture reject artist.

I'm sure it's in there somewhere.

He also played "it's alright"as an intro to November rain so he's obviously gone through black sabbaths catalogue a fair bit

He talked about Sabbath on that Trunk Show in 2006. He said Technical Ecstasy was his favorite Sabbath album. I only remember because I thought I was the only one.

I agree with the emotion in what you are saying. Tom Petty might have been the last true rock halftime show.

I think the NFL is interested in the politically correct route of all is one, one is all. They'd concede to ACDC/Guns, as long as Fergie can sing half of Sweet child and Beyonce shakes it all night long in a mashup of back in black with jayz. It's just unfortunate from a musical perspective. For making the most money and increasing viewership to the most people possible, it makes sense I guess. But I still don't like it.

I agree. The NFL is interested in a (mild and clean) Spectacle. They want to catch as many people as possible and get them to tune into the game to up the ratings. They already have fans of football watching and the multitude of silly people who watch for commercials. So they make a mishmash of eye catching pop artists to try to grab that group of people as well.

I don't want Guns to play the Super Bowl. I could never really put to words why I am not for it, but I think this might be the reason. I am a fan football and almost always watch the Super Bowl, but I almost never watch the halftime show. The halftime show is not about the music, it is about the carefully controlled spectacle.

It would be great to see a well known rock band perform during the super bowl half time show. So sick of those pop/rap/hip hop posers who perform every damn year! Unless there's a costume that shows a boob, I don't watch it nor do I care who's performing.

Bring the rock bands back. You know they won't lip sing to their own songs.

In my own view I feel this project AXL/DC has win  more visibility than reunion  Old GNR. Someone else feel the same?

No, I think there was a bigger buzz around the GnR shows.. but the AC/DC thing is big too, and Axl is talking about that to the press.. which may be why it seems the visibility is higher.

Right now AC/DCs visibility is higher bc we're in the midst of them playing shows.  So you obviously hear more about it.

Overall, the GnR thing is a way bigger deal in general.

Oh this could go in so many good or bad directions LOL!

Contrary to popular response, I'd be ALL FOR this halftime show. I mean, it can't be worse than anything else we've had in a while.

Superbowl is not a big thing outside u.s.a ( meybe mexico and canada ) but for the 85 % of the world ( maybe more) is a random game/event that noone cares about.. But...  A lot of people outside the states just cares about halftime show, some ht shows were very famous worldwide ( the one with m.jackson, the one with bep with slash, the one with prince, janet jacksons boob,  etc etc . ..)  So is a nice way to be seen worldwide. And i think an acdc with Guns n Roses show is an excelent idea. Half of back in black, half of jungle, and at the end both bands play the paradise city outro with a fine fireworks paraphernalia.. I mean, it cant be a half time show better than that

Im 200% . On board with this

Bullshit, it's one of the most watched events every year worldwide.

lol Americans and their obsession with borefest Super Bowl

You're probably a soccer fan. We let our children play soccer but when they pass puberty, we let them play real sports.

No it isn't.

It's the most watched spectacle by the county that spends the most on entertainment. Does that help narrow it down? Who cares if soccer has more viewers overall? We are talking about if an American band would play the biggest American media event.

Soccer Had more fans globally. Ok. You know what else the globe has a lot of? A shit load of third world countries that rely on American money. Just cause there is more of something doesn't take away from something else. Control your comparing mind now and improve your life tomorrow! There is no denying the power of American greed. ??????

Sport aside, is this an American obsession, speculation on the super bowl half time ceremony? Even at the pinnacle - or should I say, nadir - of Ashba led Casino playing nugnr, it seemed every year this event would come along, and every year the Americans on the board would expand considerable energy debating whether or not Guns would appear.
