Yeah good on him (though the mental illness remark and him not knowing what that meant kinda made me cringe). I'm not exactly Steven's biggest fan, but he does usually come across as concerned about treating everbody right and respectfully, no matter who they are. It reminds me of that interview where Steven basically called all the other guys in the band sexist, because they refused to have Vicky Hamilton as their manager. According to Steven, they didn't think a woman could do the job as well as a man and they wanted to have a male manager. Steven thought that was stupid and felt like they didn't appreciate how much Vicky had done for them... Also reminds me of the day I learned that Axl Rose knows the word "transphobic" Gotta disagree with this one...he's been a complete asshole toward many women in his life. There was an old interview on Metal Sludge from about 10 years ago where he said a woman was only good with a cock in her mouth, or something along those lines. He's had convictions for domestic violence against three different women and has actually gone to jail for it. And on the Celebrity Rehab show, he was noticeably nastier and less respectful toward the woman tech at the rehab facility than the male ones. He actually made her cry. And in terms of treating everyone right, the guy abandoned his entire band in Europe with no way to get home about 9 years ago when he went off on a bender. I hate the way Steven always paints himself as the hero of any story.

I can still see that he/she called everyone in this thread crazy stalking psychos, said that we have our tongues too far up Axl's ass, talked about this thread being shut down, made dumb remarks about South Americans,... People have had posts deleted and stuff for way less than this. ------------- Yeah, when I saw that picture I knew I had seen him make that exact same expression before in an old picture and had to make a comparison. And I agree, this thread does good work As for that Instagram post, I guess they probably stole the idea at least (I posted the comparison on Tumblr as well), but they seem to have used different pictures and didn't bother to make the pictures line up and match nicely, size-wise... Got some more shit I want to comment on, but for now... "We're still babies, you know?" Babies indeed. What he's saying is pretty sad in retrospect, but Duff is just the most adorable blond ball of fluff in these gifs. I'd kinda want to pinch his cheeks or something there Also, speaking of Duff, did everyone see the pictures of Duff and Susan at the animal shelter? They're cute. And once again I wish they'd dragged Axl along. I mean Slash and Duff constantly do nice and fun things like that, it would be good for Axl to join them and do something normal for once (and spend some quality time with his band mates at the same time) omg that picture of Axl on the brick phone "It seems like he/she (more likely a he with a throw-away account pretending to be a woman if I had to guess) is just trying to start shit to get everyone else in trouble as well." Bill was something that got left behind long ago. I was named after my real father and that wasn't something I was a big fan of. If I'm getting in touch with the child in me then I'm dealing with Billy. But I'm Axl. That was the name of a band I had with Izzy and at one point he said, "You live, breathe, eat, sleep, walk and talk Axl. Why don't you just be Axl?" So I was like, "Good. Now I'm Axl Rose." And I won. Completely unrelated side note, but reading that quote again just made me feel a little weepy. Something about "Billy" and that "And I won" bit makes me feel kind of emotional. I don't think I've ever heard of anyone referring to him as Billy (only Bill, Will, William, etc.) and that he'd refer to himself that way kinda makes my heart ache. And yeah, he really did win, against all odds. Okay, I'll stop now. My hormones must be out of whack or something today, I'll blame it on that lol I've been told Axl now has instructed every minion to ask every woman that wants to take a picture with him if she posts in the "Women's Thread" from Mygnr He's specially wary of @Andy14 and @killuridols, the two most dangerous stalkers this thread has produced. I think they were on their way to it and it was the Illusion albums, the videos and the UYI tour what finally sealed their stardom. I consider a band big big when they've also made it to other countries that are not where they were born. I know GN'R became a huge act when they left the USA and played Wembley or Japan or Germany and then you have Southamerica. They came here in 1992 and sold out two River Plate stadium. That is big. Not many bands can do that and I don't think they would have been able to do it without the videos, the scandals, the press and the grandiosity of the UYI tour. When they say they didn't like it, I think they were just complaining for the sake of it and because they were drunk and drugged. It is normal, sometimes, to complain about having to do things that you don't like at work but you have to do them because it is part of the job. Making videos in the 90's was expected from bands and any other artist, so if they wanted to become more relevant, they had to do it. It was an era of great videos and MTV. What I'm trying to say is that it's easy to dream big stuff for your life, imagine fame and success, but truth is if you don't work for it, if you don't move your ass none of that will happen. It will remain in your head and that's it. I have never understood what was so wrong with wanting to be a huge rock n' roll act Why do people talk shit about the videos or the tour? It makes no sense to me... why should they have lowered their expectations or amount for something smaller? What's the reasoning behind it? Izzy didn't want to do it and that's okay; he had his reasons for it. But that shouldn't stop the rest of the band from pursuing their goals and dreams. I'm sure Slash said in his book that he wanted to be big, he wanted to make a living out of his guitar playing. It wasn't a hobby for him, it was his life... Duff too... Duff says, I think in the beginning of his first book, that when he met Axl he realized Axl was serious about this business and he liked that, because he was serious about it too. That's why the two previous members who they replaced (Tracii and Olei or whatever) acted like the band was a second thing for them. They weren't convinced of going on that little tour because they were comfortable with who they were. Slash and Duff wanted to do it, they wanted to seriously go for it and they did and that's how the band became a working unit. Appetite has sold more in the US and UK than the Illusions, while in the rest of the world it has been the opposite, at least according to Wikipedia numbers. For America it is certain, because Appetite wasn't just a very popular album there; it had, along with the live performances of that era, a big cultural impact. I personally don't value how great an act or an album is by sales or popularity. I happen to like acts that have sold millions, others that have sold a few thousand and others that are in-between (the most acts I like are in the in-between area). If, for example, I liked CD better than Appetite or the Illusions, I wouldn't care less of how much it has sold and I don't consider the arguments against it that are based on sales being of any significance. Of course it is good for a band to be big and successful both in its country and worldwide, and they all wanted it (even Izzy wouldn't have a problem with that). And there was nothing wrong with touring the world and making videos per se; everybody was doing videos then, even the small indie bands. The thing is what type of "big" they became, and now I'm coming to the part in bold. I'll try to explain it, at least the way I see it. It has to do with a perception of what rock 'n' roll is about, which may not make much sense now, but it did matter back then. When a rock 'n' roll band like GnR became so huge, playing in big stadiums and doing shows of such high production value (I'm referring mainly to the 1992 so called "circus shows" with too many people on stage), it was closer to popstar acts like Michael Jackson and Madonna; or to older rock bands like The Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd, who were legendary and great and all, but weren't "it" anymore and did highly professional shows addressing all age audiences. The trilogy videos resembled, both production and content wise, more to videos a pop act would do (Axl had said he wanted to follow Michael Jackson's model). I know that many people love these videos or even became fans because of the November Rain video, but I find them silly and cringeworthy, especially the NR one with the wedding and all that. (In general, this band hasn't made, with few exceptions, the best choices with videos; I can't understand why they liked so much doing videos with sappy scenes with their girlfriends .) Even Axl later said (in the 2006 Trunk interview) that the videos were corny. Stadiums, of course, were a necessity, even if Axl hadn't wanted them, because there were big crowds that wanted to see the band and it wouldn't have been practical to play in smaller venues for, say, three days instead of playing one show in a stadium. But when a band attracts such big crowds, it's not because all these people are real fans and love the music; many go just for the hits or because the band is fashionable. I remember Slash saying in his book that he wanted to be big and successful, but not Madonna-like big, being the subject of trashy magazine articles and gossip columns. And Duff has said both in old interviews and in his book that he didn't like being called a rockstar. I have attended few big stadium concerts, because I don't enjoy them. I think they are too massive and impersonal; the size and height of the stage create a feel of distance between the band and the audience, with the band being "above" the fans, even if you are relatively close (Slash and Duff have stated that they didn't like this aspect of a stadium show). GnR are one of those few shows I have been to; I couldn't miss them when they came here in 1993. As expected, it was hot news in the media. For local socialites, celebrities, VIPs etc, who had nothing to do with rock 'n' roll, the show was a "must go", one of the big "events" they would talk at their parties about. I felt annoyed being at the same place with those people. I wouldn't have minded if I had been there to see Michael Jackson for example, but rock was supposed to be anti-establishment... At least it was a good show; it was the Skin 'N' Bones tour (I learned this later, because there wasn't much info back then,we had no idea what they would play and we didn't expect so much acoustic stuff) and one of the shows Izzy had filled in for Gilby And while these were happening with GnR, other bands emerged representing the "real" rock spirit. Despite all that, GnR remained a rock 'n' roll band and the reason, apart from the music, was Axl and his unpredictability, even though he was the one who had the grandiose ideas Anyway, as I said above, all these don't matter now, because rock isn't what it was and the UYI GnR is iconic, as the last of the mega larger-than-life rock bands. Frey
@Blackstar Great post. And this is also why I kind of prefer to watch shows from the 80s. They were raw, authentic and believably anti-establishment in these shows. While the 90s shows are... still good, but yes, more like a Michael Jackson or Madonna show. Very commercial and none of that wild, rebellious anti-establishment spirit to be found. But I think a few of the videos aren't too bad. WTTJ, PC, SCOM and Yesterdays are perfectly good videos in my eyes.

I have a huge soft spot for the other four idiots, but Steven... nope. So I don't really keep up with him and mostly tend to ignore him. I have never heard about any of these things you mentioned. I never watched the rehab show, don't usually read interviews with him, don't really know about all the shit he did etc. All I know about him are bits and pieces I randomly come across or when he gets mentioned in connection to the other guys and stuff like that. Basically, I retract my earlier statement after reading what you wrote. Shows what I get for trying to find something nice to say about him for once Yes, I did meet him after the ACDC concert in Vienna. I also met the guys from ACDC, though I only really talked to Angus and his wife. Here's the thread I made about what Angus's wife and Angus had to say about Axl: Make him get rid of the hats, Beta! And here's where I went into a bit more detail about meeting Axl in this thread: Post 1 and Post 2 Sorry about there being no pictures anymore, but I took them down after Alt Nation stole my story to write a couple of crappy articles about it The spy pays close attention to the happenings on this board I see Thanks so much for that, I felt gutted when I read the posts. This is why they say 'never meet you idols'? Luckily we are all maternal and can see through Axl's pissy moods and forgive him ? It didn't come up, it was just one of his random twitter posts. He posted a link to a youtube video (don't remember what it was anymore) and asked "Is this transphobic?" It's been a long time since I read his twitter, but honestly, I think he was just being a douche and making fun of the concept of transphobia. Or at least being unnecessarily sarcastic about it. The tweet should still be there if you want to see for yourself. Oh that's nice I don't follow too much GNR related stuff on Instagram, so I didn't see that. Charming. You and @Andy14 need to make sure to never post any pictures of yourself anywhere, so you'll remain anonymous and the minions will be completely powerless against you And yes, I don't like that either (except when we're doing it jokingly in the women's thread... remember when they all were Saul, William, Jeffrey and Michael for a while? lol). Like you said, it's distasteful and disrespectful. But I was actually referring to people who knew him before he was famous, not random "fans" on social media. From the way all these people talk I get the impression that they used to call him Bill for the most part, even when he was a child (and some William, like the ice cream lady). So that he would refer to himself as Billy (which is much cuter and more child-like and innocent than "Bill", which sounds too adult and hard for a little child imo) is kind of touching to me in a way? It's hard to explain. I guess it's kinda like he's showing more affection to the child he used to be by using a cutesy nickname than the people around him ever did. Or something. Like I said, I'm an emotional and weepy mess today in general, so don't mind my crazy ramblings Yesss That is definitely a Slaxl picture. It's amazing that we're still getting new Slaxl pictures from back in the day in 2016. All these photographers should share their treasures with us I also really love that picture of Axl playing piano that @Andy14 posted. Omg And look at him, he's so tiny! These short little legs! Also I saw these on Tumblr today and was reminded of our recent discussion I feel haunted by this daddy thing now Also Beta apparently got into a fight with people on social media again This time she was defending Dizzy because someone apparently wrote a negative comment about Dizzy on a recent picture of Dizzy and Melissa that was posted on the official GnR Instagram account.
