Popular Post Projectvox
Hello all. I think the last time I posted in here was around 6 years or so ago so hello again. I just wanted to share my feelings on Guns N Roses now that Slash and Duff are back in the band. Firstly, I've been a huge Guns N Roses fan since around 87/88. I was lucky enough to see them live in the UK 91/92 & 93. We all know what happened after the UYI tour and the subsequent fall out and I, like some/most over time lost interest in the band I loved. I was excited when Guns reappeared at the MTV awards with the new line up and really felt if they'd pushed on they could've achieved something, though after Buckethead left and the various line up changes afterwards Guns just became a band I used to love... I was lucky enough a few years ago to play a show with Duff and asked him a bit about Guns and (Velvet Revolver) he wasn't disrespectful at all, but certainly didn't give the impression they'd every play together again. I was genuinely excited when it was announced that Slash and Duff were rejoining the band. I, like some would've loved Izzy/Matt or Steven to be involved too, but alas it wasn't to be. Watching various YouTube videos though, I've really grown to feel quite excited by this current line up. Frank, in all honesty sounded like he was overplaying on the initial shows, but the most recent videos - to me, he's settled more into the groove of things now and is certainly worthy of his place in the band at this time. It was strange, because in earlier tours I actually thought he had a solid and powerful groove, so the sloppiness was surprising. Richard, again seems to have calmed a little for the better, with less 'windmill guitar' and is just playing, rocking out and 'fitting' more. Melissa - clearly beautiful and also very talented. Duff, well he's back to being the 'orchestrator' like he was 'back in the day'. Cool as fuck. Slash, I'm really happy to see how much effort he's putting in to the 'Chinese' stuff. He's certainly finding his own 'voice' in the solos with each show seeming to improve. It's just a pleasure seeing him back on the stage again playing them songs, especially with... Axl - let's all be honest here. When was the last time Axl looked so happy on stage? His voice is improving, he's giving that extra effort to the stage performance (in the past for me he was doing the 'actions' but with little conviction). He also looks as good as I've seen him in years. Not quite the 90's version of course, but he's 50+ now so to be expected. However, there's noticeable weight loss it seems since the start of the tour/warm up shows. He looks and sounds great. Vocally, I can really hear the 'coaching' helping him. He still slips into the 'falsetto' a bit too much at times, though again it seems less and less each show. Another observation is how much time he's spending actually ON THE STAGE. I'm sure many remember that Axl, when he wasn't singing used to run back stage many times during the song, but it's great to see him just OUT THERE dancing, performing and looking like he's having a fucking great time. The happiness seems genuine. I'm happy FOR him and the band they're in this moment. The Future - well, it'd certainly be interesting to hear a new album with this line up. Who knows what it could lead to. For now though, I'm just enjoying the fact Guns are seen as being a 'serious' band again (no offence to anyone). Many of my friends who've thought they were a 'joke' for however long are almost as excited as I am by the current line up and performances, with great positive reviews coming in from the media. I'm not sure of the point of this post other than I just wanted to share some positivity. I love this band. They were the reason I got into music and have spent most of my life making music, performing, touring and generally having a good life doing something I love. I'll always be grateful. So, welcome back Guns N Roses. We've missed you.
Un42nutzly
Thanks for the post! I agree with everything you said. This is a very surreal and exciting time for GN'R fans, and we can only hope that the climax of this reunion has not been met. I think we are in for a few surprises in the next couple years! Are you going to any of the shows? Edited June 29, 2016 by Un42nutzly

Let's hope they do them soon!

IMHO For me, the reunion came too late. 10 years ago, i would have be en on fire, but now...i don't know. I expected more surprises. The lack of media and fan communication was ok for the mysterious CD era between 1996 - 2006, but since then this strategy lost its sense. I'm bored. I'd be lying if I said I don't want to see/hear/read an interview with them all, but I also quite like how they're just getting on with being a band again. Bear in mind too, they're filling stadiums without having to do any of that stuff. All positive for me, though you're completely entitled to your opinion of course. No wrong or right.

I'm happy for everyone who is totally happy/cool with the status quo of GnR. It just could be much better and since Axl and Slash are in talks since 2 years, i expected a bit more creativity, eager and surprises for the brand and the future of GnR. dontdamnmeuyi2015
Yeah and I've read so many positive things about Axl and GNR lately online too. This is a most important event in rock music and for GNR fans all over the world. From the pictures I've seen, especially the Slash and Axl pictures, everyone looks happy and the live footage looks and sounds great. This is a very special time in all our lives. I think Axl, Slash and Duff are having a great time on and off stage.
annablue
Just coming back from the Toronto show and so many smiles from Axl made me so happy to see. I didn't want to ruin my show experience by watching too many videos of the current tour before the concert. Let's just my expectations were surpassed. So blown away by the quality and the energy everyone put into it.
