Wolf whistling now a hate crime it seems!

Hate crime is a strong category, but this does need to be taken more seriously.

Its funny that how this is only being discussed by men (other than Alfie's contribution) and you are wanting to blame political ideology/environment and not acknowledge Alfie's nor my own experiences as something that requires the police to do something about it. Because you're all responsible men who respect women and are lucky enough to have never been shouted at or sexually harassed in the street just because of your gender, therefore discounting this as a minor discomfort which only ever happens to other people.

Whys it Karl Marxes fault?!?. I'm pretty sure there's nothing in Das Kapital about driving past Grace on her way home from work and shouting 'Oi big tits, looking for some action?!'.

To be fair you could justifiably shout the same at McLeod too

On a serious note I dunno about the hate crime bit, I suppose it all depends on how girls feel about it and I ain't girl.  Does anybody wolf whistle anymore still?

I'm pretty sure Karl has nothing to do with it, but using PC shit to dictate how people should live their lives is called "cultural marxismo" why? Beats me, I don't care. Look it up.

I think you guys are focusing too strongly on what they're classifying it. I don't know why any of you give a shit that it's being called a hate crime, it's a good thing that this is being paid attention to in any way. The amount of harassment and bullshit that a young woman who lives in the city has to go through is disgusting. It's truly a daily occurrence for many.

And I bloody love it.

Happens to me all the time in Newcastle. Old bags on hen nights wanting to grope me. Bring it on. Love it. The ego goes through the roof.

Grow a pair of bollocks.

You either don't live in a city, don't interact much with women (specifically on the younger side), or you just don't care for what they have to say or their concerns. Maybe Philadelphia is just actually that shitty of a place, but all of my female friends who are at least moderately attractive have to deal with harassment every day, they can't walk the streets for one day without a creep saying some disgusting shit to them, and usually calling them a cunt or something when they walk off and ignore them. I guess it's not until you're close to these people that it becomes easier to place yourselves in their shoes, it must fucking suck to walk around having to deal with that, old dudes dehumanizing/objectifying you, and actually making you feel afraid to ignore them. I mean really, can you not imagine how terrible that is?

The replies to this thread aren't surprising, for every woman/girl that speaks up about something like this, there's multiple men ready to say she's 'overreacting'. It's been happening to me since I was 7 years old in my school uniform, and sometimes that uniform seemed to make it even worse.

This one creepy guy kept circling around in the supermarket while I was with my mother just to continually and repeatedly look me up-and-down. Guys yelling about how they'll show you a good time, trying to intimidate and get you to react when you're just trying to go about your day is frightening. Especially when you hear the stories of men who have reacted physically to being ignored or told to stop.

They don't do this because they love and respect women, they do it because they have an inherent disrespect and yes, damn-near hatred of women.

But that wasn't the point of the original post. Nobody is going to argue with you that such things aren't reprehensible but how exactly do you legislate any of that as a criminal offence without getting into 1984 thought crime territory?

I've heard similar from a girl in Florida actually but this article is relating to England and i dont think there is quite the same thing over here.  I mean the girl I'm talking about was telling me how in certain places in Tampa you cant walk down the street without getting honked by passing drivers or being followed, literally followed on foot, by some creepy old cunt.  She showed me this sex offender map of her local area and it was fucking frightening, like hundreds of the cunts, like literally hundreds, all dotted around this area of like 10 streets.

Look up the Frankfurt School for Critical Theory; it's a good place to start and see how we got here with regard to political correctness. Not Marx's fault, but his 1910s era followers who didn't understand why the whole world didn't follow Russia and revolt in a worker's revolution due to/after WWI. They eventually decided that a nation can't fall to Marxism unless the culture within it is "critiqued" or discredited and destroyed or dismantled, slowly; a non-violent revolution wherein rather than the leadership of the country changing, the values/morals/mores of the people are changed making them more open to Marxism; Eventually this train of thought branched out and you got things like Gender Studies and Race Studies courses - things aimed at forming a new class consciousness that was not based around traditional, openly Marxist terms like "Proletariat" or rich vs. poor, but by placing people in factions based on identity politics; dividing and conquering. Political Correctness is just a way to control the dialogue of the society in question and make anything which doesn't fit the narrative either outright illegal or socially illegal. Things like traditional masculinity, traditional relationships between males and females, race relations and so on have to be dismantled - so that there is no culture left to speak of - while a new Marxist culture, and then afterwards, a new Marxist government (because the people will already be thinking in Socialistic terms, without even realizing it) will then be imposed.

And a useful scaremongering tool its been ever since.

Quite easily, it's harassment and it's verbal abuse. If these men want to objectify and think disgusting things, literally no one can stop them. But to verbalise those thoughts, especially to the person they're about is horrible. There should be some legal ramifications for that, because asking them to stop is an invitation to being followed/attacked even further.

Yeah, still not a "hate crime".

You could classify it as one based on gender, like I said, cat-calling isn't the result of love, affection and respect.

These men do this simply because I'm a woman, I'm targeted because I'm a woman. That can fall under a hate crime.

It's not a "hate crime". A wolf whistle is simply a whistle. It's if anything a stupid compliment. Something to just roll one's eyes at or shake their head at. Now, if the whistling is followed by the man approaching the woman or following her or such or acting in an intimidating manner, then it's a crime.

I think rape is a bit more than a hate crime Miser

They're just as bad, although it depends on how far the hate crime goes. I mean, I'd say a lynching is worse than a rape, technically speaking.

To you it may just be a whistle, but when I'm walking somewhere by myself it's intimidating. I just want to reach my location, and these men know nothing of value is to be gained from this, they do it because they know you don't like it. It's purposeful intimidation.

Exactly, spray painting 'coon' on a black mans doorstep is a hate crime, lots of broad lesser crimes are hate crimes, hence my saying what i did.

But do you think it's something that should see the person in question arrested?

I think they should be fined, then after a certain amount of times arresting them would seem logical. It won't be less common until people there's more repercussions for things like this.

It also depends on the level of harassment involved.
