Silverburst80
Would have been refreshing to Iggy to come across Guns in the LA club scene back then. Seeing them when they were hungry, dirty and broke and first airing the songs that would go on AFD must have been something to behold.
Blackstar
Iggy knows what he's saying. I'm not sure though about the working class aspect, at least there wasn't intention on GnR's part to represent the working class. I think it was more that GnR's emergence coincided with the decadence of the individualistic mentality of the Reagan era; GnR expressed the dark side of that .

I'm not sure they gave a fuck about appealing to anybody at the start, that was part of the appeal!

Thank you for sharing. There should be an interview thread where stuff like this and other cool stuff can be shared.

Hes not talking about intention, hes talking about the last days of a market that was existed where you had a blue collar audience for whom music mattered somewhat. He's talking about what existed there before a cultural shift. 40 minutes ago, The Holographic Universe said: One of the most insightful, perceptive, and surprising interviews I have ever heard. Popular Post thunderram
No disrespect to IGGY or the point he made, but you could say the same thing about nearly every single successful band out there (with regard to being at their best early on while they were hungry). The same thing is essentially true in sports too. You work harder and are more focused before you make it. However, once at the top of that mountain and after cashing numerous big checks, it's easy to loose focus, perspective, drive and, most importantly, urgency. For example, everyone mocks AXL for how long it took to create and release CD, right or wrong. The degree of urgency (or lack thereof) wouldn't have happened early on. In short, money and fame change the game completely. And it's a rare bird that it doesn't happen to.
