nonok Posted November 16, 2016 Share Posted November 16, 2016 Axl sounds like shit, yes, but we have to remember that it was the first show, he had no actual experience, he was in pain from the foot and he was most likely nervous. And from that clip it seems like he was struggling to bring some rasp to it which made it sound much worse and weaker. If he had just sang with a clean but powerful voice, we wouldn't have that much to complain about. And anyway, from the second solo onwards it's a pretty cool performance and Slash is a beast, so it's still pretty cool we got the footage. Axl sounds pretty average for the most part, it's a song he doesn't really hit any great heights with in general anymore. rocknroll41 Posted November 17, 2016 Share Posted November 17, 2016 The one thing that has always bugged me consistently about the live version of Sweet Child, dating all the way back to the UYI era, is how he doesn't hold the "ohhhh oh ohh" part in the chorus like he does on the album. Tho if I recall correctly he recorded his vocals on Appetite one line at a time so that's probably why. I think he held that note a few times live in the AFD era tho.
