I'm not sure you can call a man who does two huge tours for two huge rock bands in the same year lazy.

I'm pretty sure at this point Axl has laid it out publicly he is up to recording with Slash and as I showed you even showed them some stuff he has.

To me that doesn't seem like holding someone back.

Projecting though I agree with perfectionist

I don't think it's cause he's lazy. It's cause his goal is not just to release good music. He knows he has good tunes probably. The problem is when it comes to putting on it the Guns stamp of approval, calling it a Guns tune and actually releasing it, that comes with making it fit perhaps like Bach said Axl talked about. Songs must fit together and make sense artistically. No matter how different it is, to connect all the dots takes a lot of time.

To incorporate all the elements, all these different people from different eras probably. All the ideas to form the next evolution of Guns musically, and still saying something new and grand thematically.

That's what Axl demands from every Guns album I think. It all means it's gonna take a lot of time, Slash and Duff returning to the band also changed priorities.

First they will make the most money they can, then they'll take a break from each other is my guess while Axl figures out how he wants to do this thing. Doesn't look like he's afraid of the work ahead of him (new tunes with lyrics and melodies first) he's just not sure how long it will take and what exactly it's gonna be. What kind of combination of tunes, production, extent of Slash and Duff on it.

Well said. You hit the points.

Axl cares very deeply for his music.

Axl had a serious problem with releasing This I Love. I think it's a great example of what type of artist he is: this song, This I Love, was very old, 100% completed, and with a killer extended Robin solo.

Problem was, I think Axl was very specific about what kind of message Chinese would deliver as an album, and he was very attached to This I Love probably and considered it to be the tune that had his "heaviest" vocals ever. (emotionally speaking)

So you see? even though he was confident it's an artistic achievement, even if this, he loves it, that still doesn't mean he will ever release it.

Not only does it have to be a good enough of a tune, it's gotta reflect him currently as an artist and the album as a whole must be also a new artistic statement. Slash never considers that. (which is why btw Chinese sounds way more Guns than any other solo album)

It's too important for him to just release Guns albums without taking all of that into consideration. Many fans don't get that at all about Axl cause it's frustrating to deal with that as a fan and easier to just excuse it with he doesn't want to/lazy/not talented enough/insane.

Axl works on Guns albums like Jeff Beck works on his cars. It's a love project, a hobby where you can take your sweet time to get it just right, you use the best parts and what fits together, without ruining the vintage value of the car or the Guns N' Roses name.

I agree. Your posts are always so on point and thought through.

This I love is one of my favorite songs. The emotion behind and in the song is what makes it that much better. It takes it to a whole new level I think. That's what we get with him and its what makes his ballads stand out so much

Like November Rain, the amount of work and emotion he put into it is what makes it a masterpiece in my opinion. He worked on that song for years.

I agree it does too on Chinese. Guns N Roses isn't GNR without Axl because of this.

I also get why fans become frustrated but to me its why he's always stood out as an artist and song writer.

Its also why he put a lot of thought into album covers when the others didn't care so much for doing that.

And many of the things he wrote before may not fit what he feels today.

I'm a huge fan of Slash but to this day prefer Robin's version on TIL. I love hearing Slash's different takes on it though.

This I love is very heavy emotional wise. I was saddened when he came on the forums to talk about that stuff and fans didn't give him much of an opportunity.

They would see just how much work and effort and emotion he puts into things.

Its not to knock any other members but when people say he's lazy I don't think they understand.

I believe it was Robin who convinced him to put it on the album if memory serves me and I'm glad he did. But yes he had a perfect ballad but didn't want it on CD.

Corrected

Nah, it was Robin who was the one to convince Axl to include and release This I Love. :robin:

Not sure why I typed DJ except it was 4am here and I just got done reading the post about DJ and his not returning to GnR.

I think that's a sign I need to go to sleep lol.

Should say Robin. It's Robins Solo I like as well.

the crux of the matter is, i can't possibly envision them coming up with a new album any time soon.

i would be shocked if Axl, Slash and Duff could come up with an acceptable GNR album, in sound and credibility.

they haven't written a single song together since 1991 and Izzy's departure.

Axl Rose won't release music ever again. I wish some of you would quit all this CD2 bullshit. He CHOSE to reunite with Slash over working on his incomplete music to release it.

I think his actions speak louder than his words. He says a lot of stuff like Rovim loves to reminds us. But you gotta be really stupid/blind/both not to see his carreer moves. The way he practically abandoned the CD thematic after 2009 to go full-on nostalgia 2011 onwards. Now, Slash and Duff return, they remove Pitman, they remove the third guitar player, they bring back the old logo, Axl does a few shows with ACDC... I mean, what else does he need to do to show he's an entertainer now, not a musician driven by creativity and new ideas?

But ok sure... Axl will release Atlas Shrugged and it's a mix of Queen with Manson + hip hop beats and a G chord. Brutally honest.

I think Axl will keep doing GNR and ACDC for maybe two or three more years. Slash will release new solo songs, maybe with Duff and even Fortus or Dizzy. They seem to get along and I'm pretty sure they'd love to be credited in another Gunner solo album, like they were in Axl's solo album, Chinese Democracy. Maybe Slash will release the album under a known name like Velvet Revolver like Axl did with GNR.

What we know for sure is: Axl will keep on singing live as an entertainer. Slash will release more of his music. Duff will keep being a class act, maybe will join another high profile band. Don't know what to say about the hired session musicians.

Release a shit album. You're not making the distinction between Axl the live performer and Axl the recording artist. Slash and Duff are playing Chinese material, Mellisa in the band, Fortus still in.

He added Slash and Duff to his version of Gn'R meaning he can still release whatever he wants to under the Guns name. With Slash and Duff or without.

I don't think it'll happen.

AFD and Illusions have frozen them in time as legends. Nothing they release now will ever be met with the same critical or commercial impact as those albums. If anything, a future release will only further diminish their legacy like Chinese Democracy.

Had they released albums in regular intervals like every other normal band, their work would not be held under great scrutiny and compared to their glory years. The stones, Aerosmith, AC/DC, Metallica, etc have been coasting for years -- their album releases now are just victory laps that show their longevity as a band. GnR does not have that luxury.

Besides, does anyone seriously think a new album is a good idea with a past his prime Axl Pose and no Izzy Stradlin'?

Let sleeping dogs lie. Axl, Ca$h, and Duff are busy raking in the dough on their greatest hits tour. What's the incentive to record new music?

That's a completely new version of GNR with only Fortus and Frank (known session musicians) remaining from Axl's band.

Making a distinction is EXACTLY what I'm doing here. He shifted his focus to live performances since he released his solo album and gave up on recording music for whatever reasons. Almost 10 years of nostalgia tours now with a reunion included. They do a bunch of covers every night. Slash and Duff covering songs from Axl's solo album means nothing regarding new music. Absolutely nothing.

He reunited with Slash and Duff for a new version of GNR meaning he can still milk the GNR name for some more years except he can do better than Casinos now. With Slash and Duff or without, he's done at creating music.

But we don't know if it's an actual shift to fully non creative mode, all about the money territory. I guess the question is if Axl is honest about wanting to work on and release another Guns album.

Remember he worked with Pitman in the studio to finish up material. It was in 2015 I believe.

Perhaps it's just a natural shift to first concentrate on dominating again on the market with Slash and Duff as real Gn'R to casuals and cash in, and only then make another album together.

Whatever happens now, the artistic inactivity, doesn't mean Axl is over as an artist. It's possible, but he's saying it's still a go and that it will take a long time basically.

This is GNR Land. You can't predict anything. 2017 will also be touring including (finally) Europe.

I think at least will get a Blu-Ray, maybe a live album(?).

New(!) album not coming before 2018. If they decide to do it of course.. Personally I don't think it's in their plans. They 're touring, having fun ($$$$) and that's it.

GNR has enough time in between shows for Slash to promote and tour Conspirators material, but one of them pays way more than the other. Between Axl, Slash, Duff (and maybe Izzy, but if not, so be it), there's a ton of unreleased songs and riffs.

Myles has plenty to keep him busy.

Deluxe for AFD, Lies, UYI only because a lot of artists are remastering the back catalog for digital music stores and the deluxe editions are usually a byproduct of it.

If GNR do a group interview, it won't be on Howard Stern unless they're going to have a special radio channel and put the archive tapes out - it'll probably be on Kimmel (where they could actually play ON the streets of Hollywood!) or Jimmy Fallon. I could see Chris Jericho interviewing Slash, Duff and Axl together for his podcast or maybe Nikki Sixx's show.

For now. (and not even that is confirmed) maybe Axl talked with them, explaining the how and when. We don't know.

As long as they release an album before 2020 everything is fine

Because 12 years between records is OK. I suppose I'd an improvement on the time from UYI to CD but barely.

They should wrap the reunion by the end if the summer '17, break (also release DVD, doc of NITL tour as stop gap) and reconvene in January or February and knock out a record, with an aim of a fall release at the latest.

Slash and Duff DO NOT start the clock over again, their back and that's great BUT while I would enjoy seeing g them perform, new music is what I really care about.

There's no word suggesting new music though, so I'm not holding my breath (I expect new Slash before new GNR material). Instead I'll just listen to new Metallica, Opeth and other bands willing to put themselves out there.

I just hope they don't get lost in "over thinking" things once the tour is over.

Either A) Get Slash & Duff in the studio asap to record on/over whatever's already done or B) Live in the studio for a few months and hammer out an entirely new album.

One or the other.  If the idea is to somehow incorporate both, I feel like the wait could be a lot harder trying to sort that out.
