Double Talkin' Jive instrumental cover

Hey @AslatIE,

I have had a listen to your recording, the start/opening riff is good, the timing is right and you have nice slides/rakes in the chorus. The solo starts off well (1:25 – 1:40ish), but after that the timing and phrasing seems to be a bit out.

The ending overall is cool, particularly the lead part, you got it just right. The only minor thing is that it feels a little fast overall (only the ending section), did you play to a click or beat for that part?

The distortion/guitar tone lets the track down though, with Christmas round the corner, maybe you could get yourself an interface for your computer? I have this one:

The 2i4 has a “blend” control for the direct monitoring, so it you can hear the direct signal and the processed signal at the same time, which is good for working with amp sims.

Once you have an interface, you can then plug your guitar straight into the interface and use amp and cab sims in your DAW:

The Emissary is a cool free amp, it is meant to be a metal amp, but can be used for rock, they also have the NADIR for cab simulation.

LePou makes a tonne of free amp sims, including a Marshall style amp sim (Hybrit 800), plus a Recto clone, an ENGL clone and more. He has his own cab sim, all his stuff is on this page:

http://lepouplugins.blogspot.co.uk/

You need impulse responses for the cab sim, Redwirez give away a nice selection of free ones:

http://www.redwirez.com/free1960g12m25s.jsp

But you can also type in “Free guitar cab impulse responses” into google and you find hundreds. You can also get free versions of Amplitube and Peavey Revalver (at least to you used to be able to get them).

I have watched videos of people getting some great tones out this method, I ended up buying a Blackstar and then a Marshall, but recorded this way for quite a while. It will be a decent jump in quality for you, if you need a free DAW, you can download Reaper:

http://www.reaper.fm/download.php

I haven't used it, but I have heard good things about it, there is a way to keep it in demo mode forever, but you'll have to have a look at that as I don't know how it is done.

Thanks @AxlsFavoriteRose! I think I post in this section more than anywhere else on this site, it is cool to see so many people who make music and have similar influences.

@AslatIE is making some real strides with his playing and has only been at it for a couple of years; I like how he is starting out so young with the recording side of things as well; he will be a fucking force to be reckoned with by the time he gets to my age!

If he can spring for the gear I have linked, he will be at the next level with his recordings :headbang:
