GNR Takes Swings at Donald Trump (the foam kind)

Recommended Posts

Also I get why they did it in Mexico with the whole wall thing but I do agree with Trump on that, no more illegal Mexicans in our country is totally fine with me. Ship em back.

but that's the thing also I'm just some idiot and the things I agree with I wouldn't think would be a proper way to run a country lol

I think you're likely right on the actual band member's intentions here, but it still doesn't look good. You're one of the most famous American rock bands of all time on foreign soil. Quit listening to Del James or whoevers dumbass idea this was. I don't care what the individual band members politics are but don't fucking make GN'R a cliche political band. I personally think GN'R songs rise above all that partisan bullshit and that's the way it should be. Just my opinion

I agree and I don't think they will head in that direction....other than some once in while comment sort of thing. (Which Axl has always done....not necessarily about politics but current events....which this was).

Never laughed so hard at comments until I read the ones under the recent Mexico City video on GNR's Facebook...

"how dare you disrespect America!"

"I was a fan but no more"

"everyone should throw away their cd's"

"hypocrites"

people have no problem when they themselves disrespect the office of the presidency but if it's their candidate then all hell breaks loose...I mean why is it that it became normal to call President Obama simply Obama or Obummer or Obammy or Barry

its funny for people to disrespect the candidate they don't like but when it's their candidate it becomes a matter of respecting the office, or the United States, or respecting the flag...

oh well it is what it is, I doubt this hurts the band from completing another US tour.

I guess one thing I found surprising by this whole ordeal is how many casual fans thought Guns N Roses was this conservative band, that appealed to bandana wearing bikers in the south. They are as California as they come. One in a Million is a transformation song about a guy coming from the Midwest to this new diverse playground and being overwhelmed by the change. It's not some battle cry for Caucasians...it's one guys experience in which many have experienced. Calling Axl racist bc he wrote it is too far from the truth. It wasn't the backlash from OIAM that made him a new guy. He had already seen how wrong the way he was brought up was by the time he wrote it.

I say this bc Axl will take the heat for this, nobody will say anything bad about Slash, and Duff is too nice.

I guess the sad part about all of this is the guys in the band are just unbelievably caring individuals. Yes even Axl, say what you want about how he's treated people in his life the guy has a big heart and when they go to these countries and people are wondering why America elected a guy that wants to put all Muslims on a FBI watch list and keep Mexicans out of a country that was built on immigration. These people in Mexico feel like they are less of a human when one guy generalizes them as criminals and rapist and instead of the people of America saying "no we don't want a leader that reflects this attitude to the world" we elect him in office in hopes of some promise that America will be great again...I'm sorry but WTF isn't great about America already, what part of offending every race and culture makes America great?

There are a lot of hurt feelings out there about this election, it's not just the people in America protesting the result, it's people in these other countries that are being told they are less than we are, Muslims living in America that are having their country turn their back on them...I think it's these things that bothered the guys in the band, this isn't some political stunt, they don't care about Republicans or Democrats, they just want people to be treated right.

But fu*k em for bringing a piñata to Mexico filled with t shirts to hand out and extending an olive branch as an America band to some fans in Mexico...maybe it's not their place to do this but you don't see anyone else saying anything nice about the people of Mexico.

Simply liking this post doesn't do it the justice it deserves.

Any posts that are non-GNR related have been removed.

Again, we're not against discussions about Trump, American politics, or freedom of speech.  But they have to happen within the appropriate thread.  Please direct yourself to Anything Goes to discuss politics.

There have been some great posts and discussions about GNR and their decision to use a Trump piñata at the end of their last show in Mexico City.  Let's please keep it that way.

They do that on Mexico show and intended for Mexican audience. It's just part of theatrical, a kayfabe gimmicks, nothing harmful.

You just defined pandering to a tee.

So GNR 2016 = RATM Lite?

Embarrassing...

I don't think it's pandering. Axl's been anti-Trump on twitter. Axl Rose isn't known for pandering. If anything he's known for sticking to his beliefs whether it's popular or not.

It's disgusting.

You people would be losing your minds if the situation was reversed.

If Hillary had won the election and some random band brought a doll of her on stage and beat the shit out of it...nobody would be saying how awesome it was.

There would be nothing but posts about how violent and evil republicans were. How classless it was.

Or if an Obama doll was brought on stage and destroyed. Nobody would be saying how awesome it was.

Applauding simulated violence against the president of the United States. While complaining that Trump and his followers are spreading hate and negativity.

This is some sick stuff.

It left a bad taste in my mouth, I didn't like the violent act at all. What did they think they were perpetuating, or didn't they think?

Their insistance with this thing makes me wonder if they are just jumping on the bandwagon of insulting, mocking and being against Trump "just because"...

of course they are. They've seen what this kind of smug publicity can do for a band. When Green Day did it to GW Bush. VR probably regretted not taking the same $$$$ stand at the time in 2004-05

So classy from you GNR.  Love how guys who wrote "turn around bitch I got use for you" and One in a million full of xenophobia, racism and homophobia hate guy that has same views as them. And what was point of this stunt? What good did this bring to GNR? Glad that normal people like Slash and Duff didn't take part in this shit, Axl can't say anything smart to save his life so he has to pull things like this to express his feelings, he can't say wise words like Duff did in his article.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

They are an embarrassment. Can't believe I feel this way after all these years. This is a new low. Give me DJ Ashba, Vegas casinos, weddings, Brooklyn Bowling and no new music over this

When Axl dissing Trump twitter he actually got more positive reaction than negative, a lot of people with verified account praised him, some surprised he got matured over the years, some even say they lost Kanye and gained Axl, also say the "W" on W. Axl Rose stands for "Woke"

Sound like some real winners commenting over there

Totally understand why many people disapprove this. But this is Guns N' Roses. It shouldn't come as a surprise that they might do controversial stuff like this.

No this is truly surprising and extremely disappointing. Trust me they are losing a shit load of fans in America over this garbage. They are in for a rude awakening whenever they get back

i agree with @Silent Jay this was likely Del James idea..the guy goes into conniptions about Trump every day.

its very strange to see a near 60 year old man act so irrational about this, especially considering he presents himself as this big macho biker-type guy.

I equate him to the 45 year old guy who's still living in his mom's basement. We're talking about Del James here

They might get some abuse in redneck country. When Neil Young toured the south with Crosby, Stills and Nash, Living with War, singing 'Let's Impeach the President'', he got pilloried by hillbillies who said things like, 'how dare this Canuck come down here and criticise our Commander-in-chief'' and similar sentiments. It is a wonder nobody took a pot shot at him.

One one hand, I like that the band made a statement that means something to the Mexican people and represents their sentiment. On the other, I think they could have found another way to express this sentiment instead of simulating a lynching mob. But then, GnR is a rock 'n' roll band and, as pointed out, not a subtle one.

There was nothing rock n roll about what they did. It's an embarrassment. I can think of so many better ways to shamelessly promote yourself

So if you disagree with somebody's policies - in Mexican tradition - you assemble a big doll of them and communally beat it with a stick? Alright, understood!! I think I'd rather be serious on this than 'lighten up' as you suggest as I find the whole thing infantile in the extreme.

Kinda like this. I suggest not watching this. Just trying to make a point about the ugliness of mob mentality

In my not so humble opinion, that was a disgraceful and despicable act for a Rock N' Roll band.

By doing that onstage, the entire band is now on record against the President of the United States of America.

Stupid, Stupid, Stupid.

ESPECIALLY right before the band expects to collect more AMERICAN DOLLARS for a tour next year.

Stupid, Stupid, Stupid.

hahahahahaha exactly. You can't make this shit up

They are clearly brainwashed being down in South and Central America while the election was going on. It amazes me that they feel the need to get involved when they are no even here. Now imagine all the other countries to talk shit about the U.S. They really have no fuckin idea what is going on over here!
