The Holographic Universe
I've heard it's either GNR or Aerosmith. Does anyone here know for certain?
MillionsOfSpiders
Maybe Eagles, I think Metallica probably sold more than GnR but not sure about Aerosmith.
Silent Jay
Don't think so, the discography of GN'R isn't abundant enough to put them on top. The Eagles is the highest selling american band next to The Doors, Aerosmith, KISS and Metallica because they have tons of stuff to sell. wasted
Eagles I would say, unless you count Elvis. Eminem has sold more than The Stones. Edited January 9, 2017 by wasted

He probably sold more than the Eaglez I think Eagles sold 10-20 mil more. They sold records through that cd era. Eminem was 90s but then 00s cd sales drop off. Guns probably suffer a little here too. Eagles are Top 3 behind Elvis and the Beatles.

Half of them were dead but maybe I underestimated rap sales in the 00s. Most charts I remember seeing has Eminem at 110-20 mil and Eagles at 130-40 mil. Sometimes I doubt the 100 mil for GNR. They are all 100 mil which is impressive. Beatles is more like 300 mil?

wasted
Eagles are the biggest selling American rock band. But the Beatles have sold almost double what the Eagles sold. Edited January 9, 2017 by wasted
Original
Elvis, MJ, The Eagles, Springsteen, Madonna, Aerosmith, VH....they all gotta be way more than Guns. Had Guns not broke up and continued to release say 4-6 more albums etc....they'd probably be in the conversation.
StrangerInThisTown
In the US, 2012 it was Aerosmith, but perhaps it has changed since then. First 10 seconds Worldwide probably the Eagles Edited January 9, 2017 by StrangerInThisTown
Słash
Metallica has sold around 110 million Eagles and Aerosmith are at 150 million
IndiannaRose
Top-selling American bands (worldwide): The Eagles (150+ million) Aerosmith (150+ million) Bon Jovi (130+ million) Metallica (110+ million) Guns N' Roses (100+ million) ...in that order. Len Cnut
Dunno about highest selling but between The Doors, The Ramones and The Stooges you have the best of em. England are better at bands, because of our socialist leanings Edited January 9, 2017 by Len Cnut

Bono
The Eagles as a band are the highest selling American BAND of all time. There are a number of American solo artists ahead of them though. Eminem, Garth Brooks, Taylor Swift, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Michael Jackson, Elvis, Rihanna, Madonna. Guns N Roses aren't even close. Aerosmith, Metallica, Bon Jovi, Fleetwood Mac, Bruce Springsteen etc all have sold more than GnR. Having said that given GnR's tiny catalogue compared to these others it's pretty impressive. This is exactly correct if we're only counting bands Once you add worldwide bands and artists, the Eagles are #18 on the list.
