Steven Adler's Mother's Book 'Sweet Child of Mine: How I Lost My Son to Guns N' Roses' To Be Released January 24, 2017

Recommended Posts

Always have to laugh when people on here use the argument that someone is "cashing in" on the reunion and then take this major moral high ground argument like no person associated with the band is allowed to make a buck? Wtf

if adlers mum wants to tell her story she's entitled to do it, it's up to you whether you buy the book or not.

Personally I think it could be an interesting book.

The part that bugs me is the how I lost my son to GNR...

This is what really errks me as well....or rather makes me mad. It's implying she had nothing to do with it...I watched Dr. Drew and it was painful how Steven was abandoned...or "felt" that way...all a child seeks is love and approval of their parent...and he was empty inside hence why he did the drugs. We are products to a large extent due to our upbringing (learnt behaviour)...I'm not blaming his mom as she was a product of her parents and so on and so on... But it makes me sick thinking of how some parents won't accept their responsibility...   is she an advocate for substance abuse? please enlighten me on her campaign as one...(and making money off your son's suffering is not impressive)

The fact that she kicked him out of her house when he was young is disgusting...yea like the streets are going to raise your kids?

She didn't lose her son to Guns N' Roses. She lost him because he's a drug addict with a serious lack of self control. But 'ey, gotta put GnR on the cover or it won't sell, right?

our society doesn't yet fully understand addiction...I too thought it was about "self control" (I myself suffer from perfectionism...I'm getting better) so I blamed the addict. But that's not the case...it's about their upbringing/what formed them. It's plain to see in Adler's case it's his parents....him mom rejected him. Another example is Kurt Cobain (man so sad how his parents rejected him as well). I'm sure Axl suffered from this as well (didn't have good relations w/ him mom).

Here is the link to the book at Monarch Publishing.  It looks like you have to pre-order through them to be entered into the contest for signed drumsticks and possibly GN'R tickets.

I've had a sudden thought. Do we know if Steven going to be playing at the show they are giving tickets to? 'Cause it'd be kind of weird if it was to a show that he wasn't participating in.

She says in the interview, a chance to win one of 100 drumsticks signed by Steven and tickets to a "future" Guns N' Roses concert.

if she can make a quick buck by it, good for her.

morally detestable? who's to judge? Who is so clear of conscious to be able to judge other people's actions? it ain't me, that's for sure. Having said that, this book just feels wrong on so many levels so I for one, will not buy it

is Steven ok with it? I truly hope so lol. at the end of the day, it's Steven and Steven only who has a say in this.

I read Steven's book and I guess that makes me as bad as his mom writing about Steven's problems.

but here's the funny part: we're all human and we all have our faults and weaknesses. what this world desperately needs now, is a little bit of love and common sense

Prince’s Doctor Reportedly Overprescribed Pills to Guns N' Roses Drummer, Says New Memoir

The drummer's mother revealed the overprescribing claims in a new memoir.

Dr. Howard Kornfeld isn’t off the hook yet. The addiction specialist who was scheduled to meet with music icon Prince the day after his untimely passing, has been named as the same doctor who prescribed dozens of pills to Guns N’ Roses drummer Steven Adler around the late 1990s.

The drummer’s mother, Deanna Adler, made the revelation in her new memoir Sweet Child of Mine. Adler, who was kicked out of the band in 1990 due to his addiction to heroin, was recovering from a 1995 DUI at the time he consulted with Kornfeld.

After going through detox, Kornfeld wrote Adler dozens of prescriptions at a timeincluding Prozac, Valium, Antabuse, and lithium, his mother recalled. In her book she lists 63 prescriptions Adler received from the doctor in just one month. The first pharmacy bill she received exceeded $2,000, she said.

Stunned by the numerous prescriptions, Deanna did her research and filed a complaint with the American Medical Association and the California Board of Pharmacology, but Kornfeld was deemed innocent.

“I could not fathom, and they never answered to my satisfaction, why they needed to have two different types of psychotics, or three different sleeping-aid medications or five different types of painkillers,” she wrote. “Even I know you shouldn’t mix Darvocet, Percodan and Tylenol with codeine.”

After three months of seeing Dr. Kornfeld, Adler relapsed. But the 52-year-old rocker has since committed to sobriety and occasionally reunites with Guns N’ Roses to perform. “I am so blessed that my son is still alive,” Deanna Adler told the New York Post this month.

Timely book.  A lot of families out there dealing with their children's drug addictions.  It's just as a horrific experience for them as the addict.  I'm sure it wasn't easy for her to relive these experiences to tell her story but kudos to her for having the strength.  Hopefully people approach it from something to learn and not as some disclosure to dirty business that the family should have kept a secret.

I agree with this. It has the potential to be a great read from a interesting POV. Millions of family's are affected by drug addiction & alcoholism, it will be relatable to a lot of people. I don't get all the hate, it seems extremely small minded & childish. Is his mom a proven money grub with a history of cashing in on her son?
