RussTCB
I currently only own 2 jazz LPs; Les McCann & Eddie Harris-Live and Miles Davis-A Kind Of Blue. I want to dig a little deeper into jazz but have no idea where to go. Anyone have any suggestions?

Len Cnut
OK you want Kind of Blue, Bitches Brew, Sketches of Spain from Miles Davis Monks Dream and Alone in San Francisco by Theolonious Monk Coltrane is good, check out A Love Supreme by him but have a look at Charlie Parker there too, Max Roach is someone else to check out if you're into your drummers. Check out Time Out - Dave Brubeck Quartet Mingus Ah Um by Charlie Mingus The Shape of Jazz to Come by Ornette Coleman After that you can find your own way.

Towelie
Chaka Khan did some great jazz, there's a brilliant album called CK from the late eighties, which featured Prince and I believe was some of Miles Davis's final recordings. Check out Chaka's version of jazz-standard I'll Be Around. It's divine. Edited January 16, 2017 by Towelie

But for starters try: - Cannonball Adderly - Somethin' Else - John Coltrane - Blue Train Maybe try Duke Ellington - At Newport 1956 or Gil Evans - The Individualism of Gil Evans For relaxed piano-jazz Concert By The Sea by Erroll Garner is a go-to for me. I don't generally like my jazz that stringy, but Charlie Parker With Strings was great. And as far as Miles is concerned, I love Birth Of The Cool for early-Miles. His Walkin' Workin' Relaxin' Steamin' and Cookin' albums are great. I picked them up as a set once. Then there's strange as fuck freestyle-Miles like Bitches Brew and to a lesser extent In A Silent Way. I want to at least "get" these jazz classics. But to be honest they're still illusive to me. Oh, and Brilliant Corners by Thelonious Monk. Ah man, and then there's completely different jazz like Nina Simone, Billie Holiday or Ella Fitzgerald. Love that, but to be honest I'm just familiar with some compilations. The same goes for Sinatra really. Oh, and Louis Amstrong! I love that first album he and Ella Fitzgerald did. I need to get into more of his stuff. On 1/16/2017 at 10:53 AM, Len Cnut said: Bitches Brew Seriously though Leonard. Explain this to me. Because the chaos of it often does my head in.
