krissirge
They are from the movie "Johnny Got His Gun" which is based upon the book by Dalton Trumbo who also directed the movie in 1971. The movie is about a soldier who's arms and legs were blown away by a grenade during World War I. Metallica purchased the rights to this film to use it for the music video. Yeah, the movie is fucking awesome, but the book is even better. I would definitely recommend picking them up one day. The video has been out of print for a while, so if you're ever interested, your best bet is to check ebay.

What do you mean? What happened to him at the end? Or what happened to him that injured him?He was blown up in the first world war. I think it was from mortar fire, I can't recall, but I don't think it was a landmine, like said in the song. Basically, his arms, legs, and face were blown off. No, he was completly conscious, but he couldn't talk, see, or hear. He eventually found out that he was able to communicate using the Morse code. eschman
Yeah.. get the book, don't get the movie. You can do much more with the subject with your imagination than can be done on screen.

The book is infinitely better, although the only problem I have with the book is that there is no punctuation except for periods at the end of sentences. It's kind of hard to follow at times, especially during dialog. But if you can understand half of what goes on in this forum, the lack of punctuation won't bother you.
