ryne
I love listening to his live and unreleased stuff, like "Band of Gypsys" and "First Rays of the New Rising Sun". Those are essential... besides his three studio albums of course.
axlslash
Overrated like crazy. He was great - better tahn Ill ever be - but he really wasn't as great as he gets credit for. SRV, Chuck Berry, Bo Didly, Buddy Guy, Robert Cray, Bonnie Raitt....so many better than him. And those were just the Americans.

stratomaster
Jimmi Hendrixis great he might be over rated but for being over rated alot of kids these days dont even no who he is.. Exactly, if anything I think he's become vastly underated these days. He's a legend, and his music changed music forever.
Meatheads
Never cared much for him-I tried to, but his songs just didn't do it for me. Talented yes, and an original/unique guitar player. Wind Cries Mary is my favorite.
slashrocks
Man not only was Jimi a fuckin great player, he was an amazing person off stage....im reading a biography of him right now
Spoon87
his music didn't really impress me.but the fact that he inspired so many other artists shows that he's a legend.

He's a legend, and his music changed music forever.do me a favor dude take a random guitar mag and look at the "Best guitarist ever poll"hendrix is always number 1 he's still overrated. there's no denying that used to be an awesome guitarist but there were/are and will be a lot better guitarists. stratomaster
Underated in music circles in general, of course people who read and buy guitar magazines and such will have heard of him.

Lindy
Jimi hendrix was incredibly amazing. He is becoming overrated, and I think it's a shame that so many people say they don't like him, when they haven't even listened to at least one of his albums. JeanGenie
Underated in music circles in general, of course people who read and buy guitar magazines and such will have heard of him.I dont see that here. people that aren't involved into guitar music especially name Hendrix as the best cause he's a legend and one of the most famous guitar players.younger kids may not know hm but that doesn't mean that they underrate him they simply don't know him. Fizz
He was good, but nowhere near as good as some people make him out to be.If you think he was on the same level as Steve Vai for instance, you're sadly mistaken. More influencial than Vai? Yes. Better than Steve Vai as a guitarist? No.
Turn_It_Up
Hendrix was a complete stud. not overrated at all, IMO. Completely different era so you have to keep that in mind when comparing to those who came after him. On just about anyones top 10 list, I bet most, if not all, of those guartists would say they were influenced by Hendrix. He and Slash are the shit... swlabr
I think Jimi is without a doubt one of the best guitar players ever. He had the ability to play CRAZY guitar (Voodoo Chile). As well as bringing it down a notch (Little Wing). So to end this, he is the one and only Jimi Hendrix... B)
