White Stripes talk about CD

Jack White who recorded the last amazing White Stripes album in 2 weeks declared that lack of means is a good stimulation for creativity : "I am scandalized by those bands that stay 9 months  in a studio and spend millions of dollars to record an album. In advance, I know that their album will suck. Computers and machines are harmful for creativity. That's why The White Stripes don't use any."

This goes, partly, for Axl.

The interview of Jack White by Michel Gondry (the guy who did the video of "Fell in love with a girl") is in the last issue of French weekly "Les Inrockuptibles" www.lesinrocks.com

Time has nothing to do with it if you're good you're good in 2 week or in 9 month. But seriously Jack White can't afford to speak about people that take more than 2 weeks for a record or use effects. Beatles, Stones, Zeppelin, GN'R, Bowie, Sabbath all used effecta, recorded longer than 2 weeks and shit all over The White Stripes.

I actually agree.

That Elephant-album is the only new kind of music that I own, and that's exactly because it sounds so real without all these computers and guh.

And ha, 9 months is a very long time indeed

White Stripes are freaking amazing they are the only band that stays remotely close to the origin of rock and roll today (besides GNR) They make music that doesnt have that complicated riffs but theyre catchy as hell by the way anybody remember Nirvana well Jack White is an advanced version of Kurt and if im going to listen to a person that likes Mayhem who has a crap vocalist and guitars that are overdriven and distorted to the max then may god smite me.

nobody anywhere should make reference to distorted, overdriven guitars to the MAX as a good thing! If you've heard one, you know what I'm talking about...

White Stripes are alright. And hell yes, an album in anything over a month(or 2) is just self indulgent over processed non-rock anyway...

I don't think so unless you don't like Floyd, the mighty Zep, Rush, and a host of others. Yes they are self indulgent but that is why they are so brilliant---

I'm sorry, but rejecting the use of modern equipment on principle just doesn't add anything to music. It just reeks of pretenciousness and self importance. If the white stripes had their way, then whole genres like industrial, electronica etc, wouldn't even exist. Regardless, of whether you like them or not, they are viable forms of music worthy of respect, and if they didn't exist, people would have got bored of music 10 years ago.

If I was a successful musician, I would use of every tool at my disposal to make the best music I would make. Sometimes this means a minimalist approach, and sometimes it means using editing and effects where appropriate, according to the sound you want to achieve. I don't believe most people would even notice that 7 nation army was recorded on a 4 track or whatever. Their recording methods have very little to do with their success.

The people the white stripes emulate, like hendrix, were all about embracing new ideas and not making the same music we've all already heard.

I'm listening to the WS album right now Satan Get Behind Me and it is good, very good. But it is a simpler, more spontaneous music than GNR. It has an energy and witty lyrics. But you can tell it was all recorded at the same time. There are songs which could do with more work. Missed opportunities everywhere.

Axl proabably has done a record in two weeks before but just never put it out. In the final analysis there is basically nothing on UYI which isn't of the highest standard. Almost all the tracks could be singles. And all are memorable.

The new WS album just came out, there's barely a sinlge on the whole thing. It wanders around and is a great mixture of different styles but it's a whole different thing to making GNR ass kicking anthems that last more than a decade.

Basically you listen to the WS album all the way thru and then you put on WelcomeToTheJungle and realise that you are only punching the air for the first time with GNR.

But he sounds like robert plant in some songs and the parralels with his voice and robert plants are scary...
