Rick
When you saw a band for the first time, did you ever think "they'll never make it, they've not got what it takes". I thought this with both the Foo's and the Darkness.R.

Shia0bundan
I thought that for the Darkness too, but I was mostly talking about in the U.S, and so far I think I'm still right...

I actually like them though. I just don't think they'll ever get taken seriously after that video for "I Believe in a Thing Called Love". I have my doubts that their second album will ever make it out anyways.

thomyorke
The Streets. Not that i dislike them, i think they're great (waiting for the 'he's just talking' comments any moment now) but I never thought they'd be popular, well they are in the UK anyway. MrBrownstone531
Velvet Revolver.I figured there'd be a clash of egos, Scott Weiland would get arrested/OD/do something bad, or people would only see them for what they used to be and not buy the new stuff. Renegade
The Darkness suck. I liked "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" when it first came out but after a while it really annoys. They were given so much praise and loved here in the UK but they seem to have fizzled away.Perhaps their second album is gonna be make or break. I think break is going to be the most likely. AC/DC sort of stuff although obviously not as good

Maddergascar
They became very popular very quickly, which resulted in a lot of the media turning on them just months after saying they were the greatest thing since sliced bread. A lot of people starting hating them because they wanted to be different and they achieved radio saturation (you may be sick of something, but that doesn't make it bad, just bad for you). They are not IMHO a joke band. The lyrics will make you smile, but they're not tenacious D. The Darkness make songs which really move people. I think the "joke band" comment comes because the US is the land of Creed, where it is unheard of for a band to laugh at themselves a little. Now, the new Van Halen (Hagar) stuff, THAT is a joke band. Such great music buried by such painful cookie-cutter lyrics. Shame. The challenge the darkness face is coming up with another great set of catchy songs; that's not the sort of thing that you can sit down and do. It takes a flash of inspiration, which you can't just conjure up.

I love the Darkness, but its the fact that other people seem to hate them that worries me and makes me wonder how long they'll last.

It's pretty similar music to the Libertines anyways, i wouldn't expect much different to be honest, if you like the Libertines odds are you'll like Babyshambles.
