Rule clarification

Hypothetical:

- Someone insults you in a thread, for no obvious reason.

- In angered reply, you insult them.

Should you be given a 'warning' for defending yourself...?

Personally, I think only the person who 'threw the first punch' should be warned. If someone insults you of course you are going to say something back.

To quote Al Pacino in Scarface,

"I never fucked anybody over in my life who didn't have it coming to them..."

Just a thought.

Completely ignoring the thread title here -- I can see where you're coming from, but I tend to laugh insults off rather than take them personally and slag people back. Like, yeah, I agree with you about the original person getting the warning -- but it's still better not to retaliate 'cause then you're just stooping to their level.

If you ever read an abusive argument between two members, they both end up looking stupid.

If you wanted it for Eric and Madison only you should have PM'ed them instead of posting it here. This is a tricky form of plain and simple complaining about a warning.

No. It's a rule clarification. People should see it.

Stop presuming. And you are NOT Eric or Madison...no matter how much you may think you are.

You have no fucking idea how not funny that is :fuckyou:

I volunteer with the Special Olympics btw :fuckyou::anger::fuckyou:

Excuse me then. No disrespect intended towards the disabled. Bit misplaced, ok. But not inteded to be that serious. Just so you know, I know a few people with down syndrom myself, and I've visited an institution many times where my girlfriend works. She works with people with often multiple handicaps. So yeah, I respect them...a lot. Bit misplaced, ok, but no offence intended.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Ok, I appreciate that. :) I'm sorry I kinda flipped but some stuff like that is pretty personal to me...

This thread is intended for Madison or Eric, neither of whom have replied yet and there is 10 posts!

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

If the contents of this thread were for Madison and Eric we have the PM system - simple as - they'd see the PM as soon they come online.

No need to bring the rest of the forum in on this if it "is intended for Madison or Eric".

Just my thoughts.

"Rest of the Forum"...?

It's in the Support section, hardly the main area now is it.

And, I have already explained my question is not personal, it is a general question and therefore has every right to be asked in a thread. It affects everyone on the forum.

Yes, so people can read their answer - which I doubt I will ever get!

But people don't need to post in here, which doesn't matter too much now that they have!

Clearly you don't understand what I am implying. I didn't expect you to.

I want an answer to be posted publically so people can read it. This thread is a joke now because people have replied in it...

Forget it.

Ive never been insulted in here for no reason its always been because of a topic i may have started which angered people into an insult and sometimes i knew i would get insulted so there fore i was expecting it. I dont think anyone in here would purposely just insult someone for the sake of it but if they wasnt very happy about a specific post then they might get a bit angry. Just my thoughts

Thanks Subsy.

I'm a little late in seeing this thread, but I thought I'd reopen it for a minute to respond.

As Username correctly pointed out, it all depends on the individual situation. In general, we don't allow people to make personal attacks against other members. If both are going back and forth attacking each other, both will be asked to stop. If one makes a minor insult in one post, and the other reacts with a series of posts with vulgar name-calling, then the second person would probably be warned. It all depends on the situation.

We try to promote free speech as much as possible, and small insults or tactful ones are usually OK if they're part of a larger post describing their view on a thread topic. It's when members start resorting to pointless vulgar name-calling - rather than addressing the topic in the thread - where we draw the line.
