rumor: GNR on Letterman

urchinlurchin at cd.com:

GN'R is currently slated on the David Letterman talent boards for a possible Monday or Thursday appearance.

Obviously it's GN'R and I can't guarantee anything, but I assure you I would not post (and I've been on the fan boards daily for years) unless I had something useful to contribute. I am not a GN'R noob; I've been a die-hard since 1987. I understand these boards nurture a healthy sense of skepticism that veers into the territory of deep suspicion, so I expect to be doubted and flamed, and of course I do not care and will not respond.

You heard it here because I no longer believe in whatever has become the mission of HTGTH. Congrats to CD.com and other sites for embracing freedom of speech and allowing fans the opportunity to enrich their GN'R experience with honest and open discussion and conjecture. For better or worse-- in my opinion for better (and that is not another tired reference to the song we all love)-- GN'R built its legacy on a platform of controversy and divided opinions. Building a homogeneous fan-base of Pavolvian accolytes (axlytes?) is neither the way Axl staked his claim in the world nor the way he will prove that his stake remains firmly in place.

Let me state that it is my hope in posting this to build interest in the Guns N' Roses performance-- not to jepoardize it. I hope the stars will align and GN'R will indeed make it to Letterman.

update:

urchin also posted this a minute ago at cd.com:

"Please note that my post was copied and pasted by another user to HTGTH and was summarily deleted within a matter of hours. Granted this could be a simple case of Jarmo insulating himself from well-deserved criticism, but consider the possibility that it was more than that. That maybe the talent boards to which I referred in my initial post were the ones in Dave's office, not the ones so easily accessed on the Late Show website by skeptics, in their misguided bids to demonstrate the superiority of their loyalty to GN'R, seeking to disprove the claims of a stranger. Consider the possibility (because it's a fact) that the schedule posted on the website means very little, that schedules constantly shift and that GN'R is big enough to bump anybody in the world for a surprise performance. Consider the possibility (because it's a fact) that this week's shows were not filmed last week, that they will be filmed this week. Consider the possibility that this stranger is not lying. That regardless of whether GN'R shows up to play, that his information is accurate and that he is posting out of long-time love for GN'R and its fans."

The only day it would really be a possibility is Thursday since GNR will actually be in the vicinity for the next day's show.

Monday they have a show in Maine and Letterman tapes in the late afternoon.

That being said, I really don't beleive it although it would be cool-

people are forgetting that Axl showed up to the MTV music awards to present the "Killers" by screaming "Do you know where you are" .....his comments were

"not really sure why im here, i was asked to show up here and so welcome the KILLLERS"

its on youtube somewhere

It's gotta be no more than about a one hour flight. So they could conceivably do Letterman, then fly back to Maine and have plenty of time to start the show.

But yeah, I'm not holding my breath.

You people believe anything lol . Why would this band go on Letterman without an album to promote?? Every music artist that goes on that show has an album to promote. That is the whole point of late night TV for artist to promote their shit. After every musical performance Letterman shows the album and says when it is available. It would be ridiculous for them to perform and then just walk off without any explanation. Stop believing everything you read .
