Their first three albums sound totally different from almost anything after that. They're great though, but not their best in my opinion.
A few months back when I was first getting into U2, I said that HTDAAB was my favorite, but that has changed a good bit. Personally, I think my three favorites are
Actung Baby!, Zooropa and either
The Joshua Tree or
No Line On The Horizon.
Pop is very close though, along with
War.

IMO, Pop is a harder listen then Zooropa.
Zooropa is one great single away from being U2's best work.
I'm not saying that it's a lesser work in any way, I just think someone might enjoy it more after a listen through
Pop. I don't know though. I'm probably wrong, but either way, if someone is asking for a U2 recommendation and they don't own
Actung Baby!, that would be the first pick.
