I think that's about when I started my current job. I didn't discover GNR until the summer of 1992. How I missed it will forever be a mystery to me.

I came home singing it and my older sister didn't think I was old enough to like them.
I brought a blank tape to school the next day and my friend dubbed it for me.
My sister found out and used her stereo to press record over all the curse words...LOL
I went and got it dubbed again...and didn't tell her.
My uncle bought be appetite on a summer vacation. He didn't know who they were, so he didn't know about all the curse words and subject matter, and that I wasn't allowed to listen to them.
That 2/3 year break between lies and UYI, I remember people talking about KOHD and Civil War being on the radio...and I was pissed cause I never got to hear it being played. Finally, when T2 came out, my sister got me the YCBM/Civil War single, on Tape. I guess I was finally old enough to listen to be allowed to listen to them.
I got the UYI TAPES in October '91, for my birthday. I don't know why I didn't get them earlier... maybe I didn't know they were out in stores, or didn't have the money at 11-12 yrs old.
I was already obsessed with them before UYI came out. Then I started learning GNR on guitar... and found a whole new appreciation for the band as a musician.
Best band ever.
Edit: I had to get replacement tapes for each album 2 or 3 times. I wore them out.
I also had to replace each CD once as well. So much for CDs being 'indestructible.'

Because of UYI album my mother thought I was sober listening Don't Cry & November Rain 24/7. She asked me who was my new idol and she liked it while she hated so much my previous idol "Sweet Child O' Mine & Paradise City". I didn't tell her that it's the same GNR band.
My mother knew that my first girl friend broke me up because I've insisted SCOM to be our Love Theme Song, during that year rock music was like a drug addict type of song in the Philippines. Because of the AFD my grandmother brought me to a drug-test center but the result was negative so she brought me to a psychiatrist.
I'm now a family man, having Chinese Democracy album if my mother and grandmother visit me at home I play TIL and SORRY where they love it.
Eventually, my first-love regrets that she walked-away from me and now a big fan of GNR. Sorry for her not SORRY for me.

Loved reading your post..almost like reading something i would have wrote. I still have the T2 single on CD..and if i go back andf count, as i could never throw away anything GNR, i think i have at least 4 copies of each illusion for sure. On the break waiting for the illusions, even just getting an article to read in Metal Hammer was HUGE!! Now here were are internet obsessed over every little thing, we cannot help me. we are addicted. happy bday to GNR love! haha!
