I remember waling up to the vancouver Provice 2 page advertisement for the release of the Illusions...waiitng until 10am until we know the stores would open, and ditching class to go get the TAPES!!!!! First time i heard Estranged was on that day..my instant favorite song of all time, still is to this day.
To be honest I wasn't waiting anywhere
lived in a small town and at that point I was about 12 so didn't have the cash right away

Oh yes, me too get Appetite and GNR lies on vinyl....I grew up with GNR vinyls....

but then I buyed also the cds for a question of "convenience" and for not to spoil them....

But they still "works" on my record player....

Also Chinese Democracy in vinyl is awesome....

To this day I don't know how my mom managed to do it, but I got both uyi tapes for my 13th birthday on September 16th! I was so excited, the birthday party was over as far as I was concerned at that point! I was definately shocked to get them seeing as how just a few years earlier she repeatedly destroyed every AFD tape I could trade a NES game for!

I was 9 years old and at school. I remember UYI coming out though. Everybody knew who GN'R were at the time, even little kids. Because of the stories in the newspapers and stuff we thought that they were just a bunch of foul mouthed asshole rockstars. I didn't actually get into GN'R until 1994, after borrowing Appetite For Destruction from a friend. I remember going to the shops to buy one of the UYI albums on the way home from school one day but not knowing which one to get. I remember standing in the shop for ages, looking at each CD, reading the lyrics in the booklet and being really indecisive. Eventually I opted for UYI2 and I played it pretty much everyday for the rest of the year.

Speaking of listening to them on the radio, did the fact that you didn't have as much access to the music make you like the band better ?

No offense to anyone, but I read many of you saying you where under 15 and had Appetite and the Illusions?
WTF!!
I don't have any kids, but i don't think I would want my child, if they were under the age of 15 listening to AFD or UYI. Lot of vulgar language and mature themes on those records........to young for kids IMO. I can't believe some of your parents bought those albums for some of you......geez.
