The book is the former referee's account of his time in the NBA and the events that led to his conviction, in 2007, on charges that he relayed inside information on NBA games — including several that he was working — to a professional gambler.

Exceprts from the book

Who knows if this is true, or if Donaghy is just stabbing back at the NBA. Some interesting stories of how the reffs would go beyond the rules to dictate games. A lot of it seems plausible also.

I tend to believe most of what he says.
Have you watched NBA games? It is the worst sport for officiating. A game where the officials can dictate how a game ends up, without drawing too much attention from the fans/media. His stories sound pretty plausable.
I
And tthats one reason I don't like the NBA all that much anymore. One game last year we saw Lebron take a full three steps on a dunk - no traveling call. Kobe, Paul, guysl ike that can do whatever they want. D-Wade gets breathed on and they call a foul.

Well, it feels good to know that for all these years I've hated the NBA it wasnt 100% because I'm an arrogant asshole.

seems every pro sport has their form of dirty bullshit. MLB has steroids, NFL has stupid criminals, and the NBA has corrupt officials and apparently something against solid defensive players...

The NHL is lookin pretty good and innocent right now

The Mavs got screwed in '06 against the Heat.

I am so glad this has come out, I have seen so many bullshit calls and it is good to know that the refs were the ones who won the games. Now that I know the corruption has come out in the NBA I can blame the refs in every sport for fixing the game.

I've always thought that the NBA was a showboat league. It's like watching the Harlem Globetrotters except at a national level. It isn't competitive, the same five or six teams have won the NBA championship game for the past ten to twenty years. That's redundant. I've seen an absence of defense in the NBA. It's a league that depends on offensive powerhouses. I know the NFL has kind of gotten that way, but Denver has been successful with a team solely based on defense, the NBA has been that way since I remember. There's a lot of standing around in the NBA compared to college basketball, which is why I watch college basketball more. Plus David Stern looks like a dirtbag. Anyone else agree?

Way to elaborate on the general critizations of the NBA. So of course I agree.

generally, when a defensive player makes contact with an offensive player, they call a foul.

Funny you say that, because scoring from 2000 - 2009 has been lower then 1980 -1990.

Also, in the NFL, MLB, and all the major college sports....it is constitently the same team winning the championship over and over, also.
