Besides Duff, maybe because he wasn't addicted to drugs as far as I know. He just drank a lot. But Steven, Slash, and Izzy were all majorly strung out on drugs. So what if Axl was a dick about it? Him telling them to get their shit together probably saved their lives. Had the 1989 LA Coliseum speech not happened, one of them could've ODed or died.

Just saying...

Im pretty sure that none of them slowed down until they had near death experiences. Steven, Slash, and Duff definitely pushed themselves to the brink of death and it is pretty much a miracle all three are still alive. I dont know about Izzy maybe something happened to him too, he seems like the only one that wanted to quit.

Stevens OD'd several times, he still is a junkie according to some reports. Axls speech did nothing
Slash OD'd once in the UYI tour to the point where his heart topped beating, he practically died, axl's speech evidently didnt slow him down
Duff didnt quit until his pancreas exploded in 94, Axls speech did nothing to stop him until then
Izzy was the only one who actually wanted to quit, but i imagine he did it of his own accord, regardless of Axl's speech
GN'R is my religion!

They didnt ride his fame, well Steven might have. That band without Slash and Izzy probably would not have gone very far. Steven should be grateful at least.

First of all, you're an idiot.

Secondly, Axl should be greatful to the original line up for all of his success.

Do you have a link to what Axl said in this speech?

Thanks!

Calm down, nobody insulted you. Why do you have to turn everything in to an Axl vs Slash thing?

You mean Axl should be grateful to the Appetite lineup right?

Because anything else just doesn't make sense, yeah they were all strung out on drugs n shit but even though Axl kicked his habits he wasn't exactly a saint among sinners. He was power hungry, he isolated himself from the band, and pretty much only gave a shit about what he wanted and how he wanted things. Slash, Duff, and Izzy did drugs, Steven was a straight junkie, but would you say it really affected how the band functioned? Aside from Steven, the band took good enough care of themselves to write and record badass music. Come on now, this is Axl Rose we're talking about, we all love him but he isn't the most noble of characters... or are you one of those people who actually think he is? yeah... he's just a misunderstood genius right?

Everyone in the band had their faults, but if anybody stood out and kept things cool it was modest ole Izzy Stradlin. Definitely NOT Axl or Slash, its pretty safe to say the friction between these two ego's is what killed Guns N' Roses

Uhh, they should all be greatful to each other.
Not just to one person.

wow. the shit people have time to think about stuff like this simply amazes me everytime. too much time on their hands from the looks of things.

things are what they are. they should all be grateful for the fame and lives they've been lucky enough to have. including Axl.

The Appetite lineup should be grateful to Axl?

Axl should be grateful to the Appetite lineup. At the time, they were the only 5 guys that could make up Guns N' Roses (in my opinion they still are but that's a different thread lol). They're all lucky to have made it anyway.

Izzy quit because he was going to go to prison if he didn't. Part of the reason why he couldn't hang out with the rest was because they were using and 1) that could lead him to relapse, and 2) if whoever was "in charge of him" came to his house and found needles and shit everywhere he would be thrown in jail.
"I hit the city and I lost my band / I watched the needle take another man / Gone, gone, the damage done. "
