Saturday's Vegas Show My Frist Time w/ G&R, still no Silkworms

Somebody on the front row was lucky enough to get their request played. Tommy heard them calling for Rocket Queen and requested that the band break with the set list to play it earlier. Good thing it was one of the fifteen songs the new band knows. Can't go wrong calling for a song from AFD.
I thought the band sounded tight - except for Finck, who even after seeing live I think is a sloppy, second rate guitarist who cares more about prancing around the stage than playing guitar. I wish they'd just give him some batons or sparklers or something. Then we'd be able to hear BBF and Fortus better.
Honestly, with three guitars and two keyboards going full steam, it's hard to pick anything out of the mix. It's just a muddled mess. You can hear the riffs, but not much else. I could hear that Axl was singing, but I couldn't really hear him all that clearly. Maybe it's just a matter of acoustics at the venue. Hopefully the eight-man sonic assault sounds clearer in a big venue. Good thing I'm going to Inland Invasion next week.
I went with some friends. One of them never really cared for Guns n' Roses, but never disliked them either. He knows the hits, but that was about it. He said he was into the show for about four songs, until the first of many solos. After that, he said they lost him and he never got back into it. He was ready to go home about halfway though. He was particularly confused when they started covering Christina Agulara songs.
I personally thought they played the old songs well, but not any better than any professional musician would do if paid. It was cool to see the new songs played live, but with the exception of "Better," they all kinda landed with a thud. Playing Madagascar between Nightrain and Paradise City sure sucked the air out of the room. Big Daddy Merck seemed to watch the crowd pretty intently during the new songs.
Axl left the stage every so often. Sometimes he missed entire verses. We'd see him in the wings talking to Beta or Merck. My friends and I all heard calls for Slash thoughout the night, but the only way he'll ever hope to counter that is to release an album and let his band stand or fall on thier own legs. Hopefully 2006 is still planned to be The Year of Guns n' Roses.
No solo for Pit(t)man, though I called for one all night.
We saw Dizzy in the casino. Shook hands. He seemed scared and confused.
We saw Tommy Stinson in the hotel hallway. We told him how happy we were to finally get to see the new band play. We asked when Chinese Democracy was going to start, he rolled his eyes and groaned, "Why don'tcha ask Axl..." As he was getting on the elevator, I said, "I'm ready to see YOUR band play YOUR songs. We believe in you. We want to see what YOU GUYS can do!" He seemed to appreciate that.

Tommy Rocks
he's probably the one who's pissed off the most with all the delays.
he's been in the band for 9 years! and still nothing!
"Why don'tcha ask Axl..."
you should have answered "Because he's to bussy having his braids done"

At one point, Axl said something like, "Yes, I hear you." or something. I was too drunk to remember. My friend said it was in response to all my Pit(t)man/Silkworms calls.
When Pit(t)man came out for a bow, I finally got a good look at him. He had a little pencil moustache and cap on and reminded me of the bad guy from Rocky and Bullwinkle. AWESOME!

Sounds about right.
Release the album and everything will fall into place.
Guitar solos suck almost as bad as drum solos.

Bad sound didn't keep 'em from cheering every other song.
Or maybe it's because the crowd who cheered lines like "Turn around bitch, I got a use for you" wasn't all that moved by the Martin Luther King Jr. spoken word solo in Madagascar.

I heard that whole thing about having a request for Rocket Queen. Were they not going to play it? Anyways, glad they did. That's when Finck landed on his ass, which was a definite highlight!
I saw Pit(t)man up close and thought he was a little creepy looking.

tommy rules, he's honest, not an ass kisser. nice that he appreciated your little speech.
LOL at dizzy! very funny. he seems out of it quite a bit.
if people want to show their appreciation for pitman, they should take banners so merck can see that the crowd want some pit in the set.
finck fell over? cute.
