I hadn't heard this story. Has Taylor Hawkins mentioned it before? ----------------- https://www.loudersound.com/features/taylor-hawkins-how-i-nearly-joined-guns-n-roses-and-other-stories [...] Hawkins actually had a chance to bail on the Foos even before that. The band were in London in support of There Is Nothing Left To Lose when he got a call from his mom back in the States. Someone from Guns N’ Roses management had called asking for him. “Axl was trying to get together a new version of Guns N’ Roses, and I think he was checking around for people,” he says. “They wanted to know if I would come in and try out or whatever. It was kind of otherworldly.” Hawkins did what anyone did: he called Roger Taylor for advice. Here he slips into another impression, that of a well-heeled British rock star. “He said, ‘Mate, let me tell you a story…’” The story was that, in the early 70s, Taylor was approached by former Mott The Hoople singer Ian Hunter and guitarist Mick Ronson. Queen had supported Mott on tour, and the pair wanted to recruit him for their post-Mott band. They were going to call it Hunter Ronson Taylor. The drummer considered the offer. Queen had yet to break into the superstar bracket, and the offer was tempting. But he had too much belief in the band to desert it. He couldn’t imagine being onstage and looking up and not seeing Freddie Mercury or Brian May in front of him. “And he said, ‘I see you and Dave onstage and there’s something you can’t buy there. There’s something between you guys that might not be there with Axl Rose.’ And he was right.’” [...] --------------- The Foo Fighters played in London three times during that tour (November 1999, August 2000 and December 2000). I guess the most likely date when Hawkins received the phone call was August 2000, as Freese resigned in March 2000, and, although Brain probably had been brought in around May, he didn't officially join until months later. I think some people are confused by all of this. GNR is a legacy band which basically means people with a mid life will forgo paying several utility bills that month to go see a band play songs that remind them of a "better", more carefree time of their life that took place 30 years ago. hindsight is always 20/20 this is now a job to the GNR guys. they might dress up in t shirts with skulls on them, ripped jeans and sing the lyrics to songs they wrote while living in the gutter, but several decades of an inflated ego, loss of reality stemming from being a multimillionaire and not having to open your own door, having people beg you let them "help you out" and seeing your face on tv, etc will help you lose touch with yourself, reality and your fans. I'm just taking this for what it is. my favorite band from my youth still out there playing my favorite songs. I know this doesnt mean to them what it did 25 years ago. doesnt mean the same to me now as it did then either, but I do have an appreciation for it. it's funny how things change though. because back then when I'd leave a show I'd be wishing I could get a glimpse of the crazy parties and stuff they are doing backstage while I sit trying to fight parking lot traffic to get out and wishing I had their life. now when I leave a show I think of 5 guys in different dressing rooms getting ready for bed in their own ways. I'd bet Axl is reading over that nights merch sales with his accountant (knowing the way he promotes people its probably his former dog groomer) while sipping on some orange metamucil. Slash is trying to find the page of the novel about pterodactyls he was reading right before going on stage and wondering how Perla won all of his book markers in the divorce settlement. Duff doing old man yoga trying not to fart while Susan videos him for her Instagram. and the rest of the group trying to find a fair way to split an Uber back to the holiday inn. lol. so basically I now do have a life like theirs (just with a lot less money, lol). I am definitely interested in new music, but I'm not holding my breath. again, it is what it is. I'm just thankful we are all alive to celebrate our youth together.

Looks like Duffs been busy recording bass for the new Ozzy solo album. Him and rhcps Chad Smith are the studio musicians for the entire lp it looks like. Ozzy Osbourne has released his new single, “Under The Graveyard” below. The song is the first track to meet a release from his upcoming twelfth studio album, “Ordinary Man“. Osbourne recorded that album earlier this year with producer Andrew Watt after working together on a collaboration withPost Malone. Despite reuniting with guitarist Zakk Wylde for live shows, Wylde was not involved in the sessions for this upcoming record. Instead, Osbourne enlisted Guns N’ Rosesbassist Duff McKagan and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith for the studio sessions, with Watt taking on the guitar duties. Speaking of the forthcoming album, Osbourne stated: “It all started when Kelly [Osbourne] comes in and says ‘do you want to work on a Post Malone song?’ My first thing was ‘who the fuck is Post Malone?!’ I went to Andrew’s [Watt] house and he said we will work really quick. After we finished that song, he said ‘would you be interested in starting an album.’ I said ‘that would be fucking great, but now I am thinking I don’t want to be working in a basement studio for six months! And in just a short time, we had the album done. Duff[McKagan] and Chad [Smith] came in and we would go in and jam during the day and I would go work out the songs in the evenings. I previously had said to Sharon I should be doing an album, but in the back of my mind I was going ‘I haven’t got the fucking strength…’ but Andrew pulled it out of me. I really hope people listen to it and enjoy it, because I put my heart and soul into this album.” https://www.theprp.com/2019/11/07/news/ozzy-osbourne-enlisted-guns-n-roses-red-hot-chili-peppers-members-for-his-new-album-premieres-new-single-under-the-graveyard/

I dont think I've heard this before. Im happy we got Brain, but this is a neat part of the history. Rock is so incestuous. What is it about GNR calling up drummers Mom's houses, tho? Slash called Matt at his Moms house too! "Hi, Mrs Hawkins. Can Taylor come out and play?"

Kinda off topic, but I also heard John 5 was rumored to replace bucket after he left. Wouldve been a badass line up Axl, John 5, Robin Finck, Fortus, Taylor, Tommy Stinson, Dizzy Reed & Pitman.

I bet my righ asscheek that Slash will be on the new Ozzy LP. Remember how Andrew Watt uploaded pictures of Slash a month or so ago? Andrew Watt just happens to be the producer of this new Ozzy LP.

Some people seem to live their lifes in the past or believe, because they do, the band has to aswell. The core 3 members of the current band are older and wiser in life, with their individual lives having changed from when we first came across them in 1986 or in the 90s during the UYI days. People seem to think the band and its core members are back in the past at a curtain time and age in their lifes. They also don't seem to understand during this period, the music industry has changed and progressed in its life cycle. Touring and playing live is were you make the money, for both promotors, labels and more importantly the artists themselves, due to the change in the way music is released and the reduction in album sales. My point is, of course this is a job for these guys, it pays the morgage, bills and for 2 of the core members, it supports their children. I would also add Dizzy, Richard and Frank as they also have families. Melissa seems to be enjoying life and going with the flow, something a young Axl, Slash and Duff once did in life. In terms of Axl, I think he views GNR as being his livelihood and a business owner. How much they earn is not relevant, as its their art and hard work thats created a supply and demand for GNR around the world. I cannot understand how many of you seem to begrudge these guys for receiving the benefits of there art and labour or find things inconsequential to focus on, like the live experience being compared to a theatre production or the band not talking to fans during the show. These guys were loaded back in those days and talked utter nonsense due to being f****d out of their minds. People seem to forget, during the UYI days the stage production at the time with the album covers being hang at the side of the stage, the walkways etc, was considered a high level of show production. The major difference from back than to now for Axl, Slash and Duff was, their age, maturity, personal demons, dealing with fame, alcohol and drug use.

I'd also be interested to hear new music but hope it is heavily based on stuff they worked on 20 or 30 years ago. Just modernized a little. Because of the type of songs that made GNR great, I just don't imagine anything written now would be that exciting. Do we really want a Guns n' Roses version of Aerosmith's Just Push Play album?

Well everyone, I guess the question of "which leak of the last batch is greatest" question has been answered in my household. My 6 year old daughter last night out of nowhere asked me "Who's your Mack Daddy"

Yes that's allowed, and you can change your list as many times as you like before deadline. Midnight New Year's Eve They've all got funny names You've got plenty of time to Google some

It's a bit of a slog at the beginning. But by the middle of the game it begins to really let loose and then it begins to feel like a runaway freight train. I would say it's in chapter 3 where things really start to pick up. I would recommend keep going with it. The pay off is worth it. Plus there's so much to do and see that you can set the story aside for a moment and explore the world Rock Star built. It's probably the most impressive open world environment I've ever played in. Also keep an eye on the challenges as they're easier to knock off before you finish the story mode.

Wow, that Wicked Stone noodling is just bad. It's not very musical at all, just wanking for it's own sake. Whats the point? I really hope we get old school Slash lead guitar work on any new GnR material, not this shit.

Ha, yep! My guys an indoor cat though, he would do that with his tail looking at birds outside through the window but if I opened the window he would run away and hide under the bed

It's pointless to say things like this. The exact same was said about Axl and Slash just 5 years ago

@username created a thread a few pages back which was invaluable for this very reason. Copied his post below:- A lot of people are insanly busy mixing and matching all the recent (and also older) leaks to the proper source discs. And figuring out which leaks are now redundant. I thought this last SMKC tour was the best ever. Almost all originals, the new songs were really good live, and the band was the best it's ever been. It felt like the first time that they were standing there on their own with their own material and not depending mainly on Slash's back catalog (although the WOF tour had a lot of original material too). I hope they come back sooner than later but I guess we might have to wait a few years if Myles needs a break. I do think the LTD tour was a bit short and part of me wishes they hadn't done these GnR dates because maybe then the SMKC tour would've been longer.

Didn't get a chance to ask that. We did talk the Stones/GNR/Living Colour show where Axl fell of the stage, Matt Sorum scoring "Pauly Shore is Dead" and the "Where's Axl?" show idea for MTV. I also played the Encino Man clip where he suggests naming the caveman Axl, but he didn't remember that haha. https://getyarn.io/yarn-clip/518f643a-1fbb-408a-b86c-a6f958ba1b79?fbclid=IwAR02S20O7_0aXFP4hdUCeCMKy194TWTl9ammWJQvM8LodVsBx54ghqNFSrI

Yeah I see your point on some things, however if it were solely the money wouldn't they have been better off never breaking up or just reuniting 15 years ago? They lost out on many albums, many tours (boatloads of money). Axl especially by keeping what 4-5 musicians on salary year round whether they were touring or not. And with a big of an ass he was about not wanting to reunite I believe with Axl t really wasn't about the money...he has deeper issues The dressing rooms and not talking all day- who knows or cares? I could give a rats ass what goes on all day or backstage. Going on hours late/midnight and playing til 3AM - when I was 19 great. I'm pushing 50 so I'm good with the 8-11 or 9-midnight slots.

Slash has definitely changed his playing style over the past few years. He's still awesome, and still my favourite player but I really do prefer his older style; slower, melodic and passionate. I'd take any of his sloppy drunk solos from the 90's over anything on the NITL tour, or his recent solo tour. For example, this Wicked Stone performance from London this year sounds like an almost isolated guitar track: There's absolutely no emotion in that solo what so ever. It's boring and not very inspirational. Yes he's playing quickly but there's no structure to it at all. Compared to this Tokyo '92 solo in Double Talkin' Jive: The difference is night and day to me, but I guess it's all down to what you prefer. Some may prefer technical-Slash from NITL and some prefer drunk-Slash from the 90's. I'm very much in the latter camp. Also, the main problem with NITL is the songs are played way way faster than they used to be played on the Illusions tour. That will naturally speed up a guitar player and force them to be reaching for notes quicker than they'd prefer. Just my 2p anyway :-) Oh, and saying Clapton, Richards, Harrison and Robertson are not big time guitar players is off the fucking map. Can't believe I just read that!

Yeah, I agree about Kelly and those other two women. I could care less and that one telling Daryl she doesn't trust him. I wanted to smack her. Stealing food and supplies. They should be banished from Hilltop. I'm hoping Maggie will set them straight. I think there are too many people now. The show needs to cut down the extra people because I don't care about them at all. Get back to the core characters and make them start to kick ass again. The Whisperers will continue to demand shit if they are not stopped. I want them to be gone. There are only 3 more episodes this season, so I doubt they will be gone until next year.

It was the first time I ever skipped any Slash tour in my life too. In hindsight I wish I went but I was so underwhelmed with Myles and the record and it looked like they were playing a lot of it.

First of all, GNR can easily do an 80-90 minute set like most bands out there. Then they'd be able to "change it up" every night. Instead, we get three hours of nearly all their hits. But to specifically answer your question: At Louder Than Life, I got "Madagascar" and "Yesterdays" and "Patience." At Voodoo Fest, I got "Dead Horse," and "Don't Cry." "Slither" and "Shadow of Your Love" were performed at both shows, but were new for me compared to previous shows I attended in 2016/2017. The last show I went to prior to this year was 2017 in Chicago where I heard "This I Love," "There was a Time," "New Rose," the Godfather theme, "Used to Love Her," "Sorry," and "My Michelle." And again, they play for three hours and play most of their hits and I've still seen variation in the set lists during different legs. But keep complaining on a message board. I'll keep going to the shows and having some of the best times of my life.

I usually don't like to discuss peoples looks but i agree on that one.. that over-sized clothing and long braids were really really wierd lol. I liked his 2006 appearence though, looked like a true rock star and re-entered the scene with great confidence. I think he didn't felt that good mentally during early 2000's.. lots of pressure on him too.

Look i dont care either but i dont know why he had this done at 39. The rugged beard look in 93 i think he was aging gracefully during that period and naturally. Even during 06 phase but before 06 and after 09 just looks weird.Even the braids and oversized shirt look stupid i really dont know who advised him of what to look like and wear during this time is a major fail. Interested to know where he was emotionally during this time.

Well I won't mention the source, but someone quite close to Myles (I read this), had him saying that he was close to burn out after playing close on 300 shows this year, so I don't think he's jumping straight back in with Slash once AB finish their cycle. Maybe he will, but I think he needs a breather, I also think SMKC need a breather because the material wasn't there on the last release. Slash and co should spend a bit more time with the material, live with it and then get in the studio and bang it out. Seemed like the record was made in a short window of time and the quality factor was not the top priority. They didn't want to make an average album obviously, but the results speak for themselves.

Side note; I'm guessing Axl loves ATD as well because he's tweeted lyrics from it before. He tweeted a line from Watching TV once and tweeted something else from the album, but I can't remember exactly what now. I'll say this about Is This The Life.... It's definitely not ATD, but it's also not trying to be. It's definitely a good album, but it's a grower. I liked some things immediately but thought other things were bland. It's grown on me to the point now where I have to listen to a lot of it when I put it on. ATD grew on me the same way, so we'll see how it goes.
