Most bands tour during the summer because the options are way more limited in fall and winter.  Less venues to play since you can't really do outdoor shows in every area and the indoor venues have less dates you can book (because basketball and hockey start up) so it's way harder to plan a tour.  And more artists are fighting for those free nights.

I don't understand why so many people struggle with the concept that the band likes to tour. They get to travel the world, sight see, explore and play to thousand of people a few nights a week.  What's not to enjoy?

I could write so many things, but let's just stick with this silly simile and say that if 2016 was 1987, then we're now in 1994...

I think after this tour, and the general lack of interest in it, GNR might just slip away. At least for a number of years.

There won't be the demand for them to tour after this, so I think we'll just go to radio silence for years. I don't think there's any plan or scheme now.

Perhaps in five years or so they'll tour again, but I can't see any big 'farewell tour' or anything like that. Slash and Duff will keep busy, we'll have the occasional sighting of Axl out somewhere and that will be it.

Man, I hope not. That would contradict everything they've been on about since '16. It would make them utter bullshitters.

  3. I wonder why they’re doing – according to Slash – yet another "summer" tour and only then want to focus on the album. I mean, sure, we could ascribe this to the never-ending cash-grab thing, but there must be at least some elementary logic, even if just for Slash and Duff to cope with yet another NITL year.
I could easily take the cynical approach here, but maybe, just maybe... Could it be they want to start something exciting and gradually add material to the playlist, maybe sort of test the waters? But then, why would they have chosen Silkworms as the first foray, right?
I just hope this year won’t be just NITL with a new cover and a different deep-cut. One new song is the least they can do, especially considering it was promised for last summer (never to be addressed again, of course).
    I’m being naive here, aren’t I.

They just posted a civil war clip from 2016. Never ceases to amaze me that they continue to sit on these videos and not share it with the fans.

Ikr? In fact, all logic would suggest that after 6+ years of this goddamn tour, a normal band would release a DVD. Furthermore, the same logic would suggest that the band would want to look good on that DVD, which in our case means they’d choose some 2016 show, when it was still fresh and Axl could actually sing.
It blows my mind when I realize the Tokyo 92 DVD (VHS) was released 10 months after it was recorded - 10 months after the very show.
And considering it took them some 30 years to release another video from that same tour (Ritz 91), I reckon we may expect a NITL DVD around the year 2050. Courtesy of Fernando’s children, bad sound, songs missing, probably not even something from 2016. Cool!

but his action was to release the album 2 years after the main leaks arrived so his "butthurt" wasn't relevant imo

Fair point, I guess I just see stuff like this as possibly jeopardizing his willingness to do anything. (Nobody spook him etc., you remember the Mtv 02 rehearsal interview bit with that engineer/promoter? Yeah, that vein I mean.)
Also, if the CD hadn’t already been ready (and him wanting it released), who knows what his reaction might have been, if those things were really in his hands. Just conjectures here of course.

I genuinely believe the only way we’re going to get a new record is if, somehow, someone leaks a good proportion of what’s being ‘hoarded’ by the band. I mean, let’s face it, if it weren’t for the Skwerl leak in May/June 2008, we might still be waiting for Chinese. Crazy but true

I think that would butt-hurt Axl for another twenty years.

On the other hand, we might get a quality rant or two out of it. :)

  7. We don't know what's out there.

They used over 10 studios for CD. I doubt all that just to fiddle with the Village stuff.

New songs plus something from the 90s could also be possible, for all we know.

The so-called insiders mostly get to a bit of information once or twice, which inflates their egos, and then they're just full of shit. Screw them.

In any case, Axl needs a proper kick in the ass, and Beta clearly won't do.

Axl sounded great on PTU in the 2020 Mexico rehearsal, shame it was dropped from the alts. Surprisingly he sounded great on TAY as well.

Not to me, but to each their own I guess. Songs like Bad Obsession would be a way better - and wiser - choice in any case imo.

Being a perfectionist is a handicap when you're trying to be creative. Music is art, emotion, it's something you feel that needs to come out.

    Not something you should overthink.

And I'll say it again, Rob Thomas of Matchbox 20 is very honest about this: when he was young he had all these heavy emotions and the songs basically wrote themselves... but as he got older and more relaxed, the creativity died with it.

My feeling is that Axl is going through the same thing. He looks too happy and relaxed  He is not the young angry Axl anymore.

What is he going to write about?

20 years ago was a different situation though... So I'm still hoping there's some stuff "in the vault" the current lineup feels is worthy of a proper release.

And maybe he's just happy with how things are right now and doesn't want to change anything. My boss at work is the same age as Axl and is like that. Doesn't want to grow the company, just wants to keep it stable... secure. And he's enjoying life instead of working all the time.

    These guys are getting older...

In such case, I hope he still has many unused lyrics from the past left – he could give them to Slash without any music or melodies whatsoever, and this way, some cool music could be created.

Again , it is really good to hear everyone thoughts here.

I agree with @jamillos that was one amazing show.  (and yes it can be either any  one that you attended or have seen via You Tube etc):D

I love the fact some of you think 1991 are some of our best kept shows! ...and for some , very lucky  memories.  I strongly agree too!  although Milton Keynes 1993 would be my memory too ,simply being, i was old enough to go then.  Definitely keep it going guys.

The main reason for my choice was that 1991 (and this show in particular) was a certain interim. An interim between the original, raw era of the 80s and the professionally bombastic portion as seen in 92/93. Including the way they played the songs as well as the way Axl sang. Adler was gone, but Izzy was still there. There was chaos and the aspect of danger, but it was already the UYI tour, and things were getting more organized (despite the omnipresent issues), e.g. the stage choreography. It was the first part of the UYI tour, they were almost at the peak of fame, new songs were being introduced while the old ones still sounded great (and some maybe better). They were on TV all the time, and rightfully so. It was right in between. And St. Louis demonstrated all this perfectly, including the ending.

the people on gnrevolution are saying there's hoarders of CD2 music?

    http://www.gnrevolution.com/viewtopic.php?id=15932&p=21

how does that come about!? how are those tracks acquired?

and apparently Soul Monster and Se7en are traveling around?

    What, this sentence?

"If Se7en and Soul Monster are really in circulation right now, let’s talk"

That dude is subconsciously feeding off the energy and attention you (and me) are giving him right now.

  12. There’s also the question of what "reaction" there was supposed to be, or more precisely, reaction to what. These were two songs that they started playing without any promotion whatsoever, unless you count the image videos. No interviews about it, no look behind the scenes, no info on the history, in-the-making process, proper band interviews, no nothing (because everything is super-secret), and especially no proper music videos for either of them. They just said a few words on the stage and started playing them. Plus considering Silkworms (yes, Silkworms) doesn’t really do anything for the fans of "real" GNR music, whatever that is, there’s no wonder the reception was lukewarm. All in all, typical conduct of GNR and their management team of the last 25+ years.
