It’s been an Emancipation session at work today, this one stood out for me and I may have repeated a couple of times. As one of the comments on the video says this guy could’ve sang the phone book and made it sound beautiful 😂

Always loved the song and oddly the only (?) song both Prince and Michael Jackson recorded.

But also the other classic cover on that album is pretty great:

just joining in on the fun cause it's an interesting thread. I think I get what you meant, but what I was kinda trying to highlight is that yes, Axl's voice is "screechy"/"scratchy" but that's hardly all there is to Axl's singing voice, it's quite versatile, there are a lot of other qualities to his voice to like or dislike and the combination of the screech with other qualities of Prince's voice are a turn off for some people and I don't find it surprising cause it's also how it sounds to the listener as a whole imo.

And Prince isn't versatile?? That's laughable.

In this bed is very cool. Best track I've heard. It's dare I say..danceable. Thankyou for posting that. It's genuinely enjoyable. Still not a big fan of his singing tone and he goes a bit off kilter towards the end screaming.

I'll give the others a fair shot but they appear like slower ballad types which I know aren't my thing, especially with Prince.

I think a lot of what it boils down to is feminising your voice as a man, doesn't typically sound cool or nice. To me, when he's crooning like a woman as the track opens, I'm cringing. It doesn't sound good.

Ah, just listen to the Gold Experience album. Such a fun album:

Feel free to post one or two. I'm giving it an honest bash.

Given your stance I feel that's a waste of my time. Also there isn't that one song that defines Prince, as he has so many great songs and not all of them are the same. Of course he also has quite a share of fillers, a given with around 40 albums. But still, those songs that are considered filler by some are gems to others.

Pre-sale started 90 minutes ago as I'm typing this.

They are already selling tickets for previously unannounced additional concerts in Hannover and Dresden, one hour after pre-sale began.

And even those are almost sold out already.

Yeah. I had that happen to me with Rammstein. While I was trying like an idiot to get tickets for the 2 Frankfurt concerts for about 90 minutes, they put a third one on sale and by the time I noticed that, all of those tickets were gone too.

  6. 2 minutes ago, adamsapple said:

Tried to get one ticket for a friend.

That pre-sale is absolutely laughable, iinsane, sad, twisted and just outright mean and evil.

Eventim should be forever banned from selling tickets to such concerts.

Yeah. 70.000 people were able to get tix for Munich, but despite being there since before it started, I didn't get one.:max::rolleyes:

  7. I don't get it. I'm always there before it starts, where it says when it starts. Then I get in the damn waiting room. Then it takes 5 to 10 minutes to get to the actual place with tickets and then everything's gone. What the hell? And that layout on Ticketcorner and Eventim is so fucking annoying with the preselection of 2 tickets, several seating categories with no information where those seats are and a layout that's spread out beyond the size of the screen. So you have to click, scroll, click, click to get anywhere where they tell you that they don't have the ticket. Or you zoom out and it's so small you can't read it anymore. So annoying.

  8. Bullshit as usual. Why the hell is AC/DC still such a draw?? And the damn 2 ticket pre selection is driving me crazy. I want to go on my fucking own.

I wanna be your lover? Title says it all. For me, one of the biggest grievances is his voice, it's just ugh. The lyrics,

    And I get discouraged

'Cause you treat me just like a child

And they say I'm so shy, yeah

But with you I just go wild, woo-hoo-hoo

    LOL.

To me, this reaffirms my belief he is mid. I'm not convinced he could really sing.

The Same December. It's alright. Weird and cheesy. It's alright, nothing spectacular.

Piano and Microphone live. EHHH. Why does he do that sceechy thing. I don't even think his most diehard fans would say he was an enormously talented singer.

He plays all his own instruments right? Pity it sounds the way it does.

Well. At this point, you're just trolling. The man released 42 studio albums. There is plenty of great stuff for everyone.

There's many of those people? Or they just stand out like a sore thumb? I've not met any if they do exist 😆 each to their own in terms of personal tastes, etc....but unless you're unable to notice talent (and I do in artists i'm not a particularly a fan of) how could you fail to see, what he's brought to this cultural artform....it's kinda undeniable and just about every artist across all genre will either cite him or put him on a pedestal...I mean its the obvious example to use on a GnR forum, but Duff being a punk kid,  you would never guess Prince is like his favourite artist if asked! Appreciation: It's far and wide people, far and wide...can't wait for the long awaited multipart netflix doc, cause theres gonna be a lot of "awakening" post that....

Yeah. Sadly there are. Also so many people who don't know what a master on guitar he was. Especially from rock people. "Ooh, a black man, who's mostly known as a pop artist, he cannot possibly be good on the guitar." Especially ironic when one of guitars all time masters and the legend of legends, coming before most everyone else, was a black man.

For the worst i'd have to say Queen. Not saying that Adam Lambert guy doesn't have pipes, he is clearly very talented. But how do you replace Freddie? you can't, John Deacon had the right idea not being involved I think.

Yeah. I wouldn't really call that a reunion either. Not a big fan of Lambert, but he enables May and Taylor to continue to tour playing Queen songs and also do songs Paul Rodgers didn't do, so I'm all for that and call it a success too.

I am not a big Motley Crue fan. In fact, I think they are kind of lame, now. Their big break- up stunt and grand- finale tour has been pretty funny and clearly disingenuous considering they got back together. I have been following their activity very lightly because there seems to be some interesting drama.

Vince Neal sounds and looks awful, they are accused of mimicking their instruments on- stage, they reunite shamelessly and then kick an original member out when they are all in their 60s and 70s... way to tarnish a longtime career! I have nothing against cash- grabbing reunion tours, but at least do it right without drama.

It got me thinking that this has to be one of the lamest reunions that have happened. I am glad the GNR reunion did not go that route. I would have thought it would have, but aside from a few minor hiccups, it has essentially been a huge money- making success with low drama.

What other reunions have sucked or have been underwhelming? What have been some of the stronger ones?

    Bad reunions-

KISS- KISS falls into the good and bad category for reunions. I wish I could have seen that first reunion tour in 1996, actually. The band actually sounded killer on that tour and the 1996 tour is probably oned of the best examples of a nostalgia- reunion- tour done right. The sets, sounds, and sites all looked like they came out of 1975. The issue comes after when they fell back into their old ways... hard. A middling tudio album with Peter and Ace only involved on a track or two, and then Peter and Ace turning into a brief revolving door until it imploded again. Obviously, the reunion's success led to Gene and Paul dressing up hired hands like Ace and Peter. It is a good thing the reunion happened. It let a lot of new fans see the real deal (I was too young as I was born at the end of '91) and let old fans relive the glory days. They just couldn't keep it together.

What are some other good reunion examples?

Kiss in 1996 and 1999 definitely was a great reunion. Got to see them then. Also Twisted Sister was an amazing reunion. As was Faith no More. And Europe. Also The Bangles, shame they haven't been properly touring in Europe since 15 years. Along with Black Sabbath in '99 and '05, Aerosmith, System of a down and The Jacksons in New York in 2001 I'm happy with my reunions.

„I hear that if everything goes as expected, there will be a short North American run of gigs, followed by very few South American shows, one in NZ and the tour will finish in Down Under with very few concerts. Then it is "Adios, Amigos!" I guess.“

    - the insider who gave the most info about the tour on the AC/DC forum

Makes sense. I do think though NA and Australia are a given. Only a matter of time before it's announced.

I also wonder why it’s happening now? Album came out like 3+ years ago

Well, the pandemic and generally getting their shit together, I guess. I mean originally Cliff wanted to join, maybe his departure/uncertainty delayed things a bit.

Even by his standards, an off Prince gig, still is a top 5 ever....but when he was truly truly on it, your front row at the gig and he's a meter in front doing something like this, it's the closest thing to the best sex you've ever had...

The whole Montreux 2009 gig is up on YT in pro shot....I mean I should say gig(s) as he played two full gigs in one night (sometimes he'd do 3!?!) And I think it's a good talking point, as often in here we talk about artists, namely Axl and what is realistic to expect from someone at 60...well Prince up until death seemed to have made a deal with the devil, as none of his ability had waned, which is frankly extraordinary, considering his vocal range and complexity of some of his songs...

Yeah. Montreux was pretty special too. As soon as the last note of the fhe first concert was played, we ran out the auditorium to get right in front of the queue again for the second show and it worked, we were front row for that one. And amazingly both pro shots leaked, which really rarely happens at Montreux.

My favourite Prince song is Gold, and I don't think it gets anywhere near enough love.

Yeah. So happy when I finally got hear it live (The gold experienxe is also one of my favourite Prince albums.... Dolphin is another gem), when he played it at his concert in Zurich in 2011. Also the concert were I got up on stage and unlike Kim Kardashian, he didn't throw me off, though I'm not really a dancer either. ;) Amazing memory, just like all 14 times I got to see him live. The most standouts where the aftershows I got to see at the Indigo, during his 21 night run in London's O2. The aftershows were longer than the main shows.

Cliff doesn't want to tour endlessly if it's going to be an ongoing thing. However I think if it was a farewell tour and he knew there was an end to it in sight it might be different.

It's a 3 months tour. It's not just a couple of shows. Most likely there will also be a US tour and an australian tour. He also said that he has physical problems. So maybe it is not really his choice anymore.

  17. 1 minute ago, Gunner Gilby said:

Presumably if this was going to be their last lot of shows ever Cliff would've been persuaded to stick around. With Phil I suspect it's different. He presumably has visa issues due to his criminal record which I'm guessing are stopping him taking part. They should've just asked (or never gotten rid of for the second time) Chris Slade. Sounds like even after his stroke a while back he still plays great.

Cliff doesn't want to tour. He gave his last show notice at Power trip. And well, older drummers are always been shit on. Ask Bill Ward, ask Joey Kramer. They probably don't have faith in him that he can do a full tour.

No. Being a GN'R fan the irony isn't lost on me. I chose to go and see Guns in 07 knowing it was just Axl n Dizzy with a totally different band. I went and just enjoyed it for what it was. That and I was curious to hear the then new and (officially) unreleased songs live.

Well, and people go and are excited because this could be the last time seeing that band.

  19. 48 minutes ago, Gunner Gilby said:

Genuine question. Is anyone really excited about seeing this line up? Brian God bless him can't sing like he used too. Stevie's only been there all of two albums and is no Malcolm, the drummer and bassist however talented they may be are substitutes and Angus is the only original member.

I mean 2016 wasn't perfect either. But you had Chris Slade returning and Axl filling in was something of a novelty which worked surprisingly well. This just reeks of a cash grab. Sure GN'R's tours are cash grab too. But at least you've got Axl, Slash, Duff n Dizzy.

Ironic coming from a GNR fan. Have you forgot 2002 to 2014? The main person and show at this point is Angus. The second most important person is Brian, doesn't matter if he's not as good as he once was. The people who are not the event fans that fill the stadiums would also want to see Malcolm, but obviously that's not possible.
