Never spoke to him either.  I was just wondering if you thought the negative narrative that gets passed around is part of why they run radio silent?

I think there are a couple online GNR communities that are a lot more “cheerleading” oriented that they could easily engage in dialogue with, if they wanted.

The information void sort of invites negative appraisals, given the history.

I was also surprised to hear that the Snakepit album was a product of bitchiness and in-fighting as well.

The thing about Slash and Duff being too stupid to get women and how he had to teach them how to be rockstars was absolutely obnoxious.

And that's just one of many examples in the book. I'm not talking about stuff like Slash screwing him over again and again, but about the small, pity little digs at them throughout the book.

Like how he talks about Slash and Duff not showering after shows or not changing their clothes for long stretches of time.

Or how their diet was crap and consisted of junk food. Or how Slash had/has a weak stomach and would throw up after shows from the adrenaline or nerves or whatever.

While Matt of course knew the importance of healthy eating and of taking showers and was never a puking wreck like Slash after a show (someone like Matt has more important things to do after all, like selecting the best groupies before Sebastian Bach gets to them ).

He's just so... self-aggrandizing, even about pointless little shit.

Smelly nervous young Slash — that’s our guy! ❤️

    Kick rocks, Sorum.

Who knows. But it always sounded like an error to me. The kind of thing that isn't obvious (which is why many people dont notice it, so you can understand why QC didn't spot it) but still wrong. I can't imagine for the life of me why they would do that on purpose. It literally fucks up the whole word, you can't understand what he is saying (try reading the lyrics while listening). It's clear they've done some extensive vocal processing on the song, and I just think they cocked this bit up and nobody noticed until it was too late.

Charlie we’re almost done! just do one more QC pass on Scraped.

    ... I... I can’t do it... don’t make me... I don’t... it’s been eight years... my family...

You know what Fernando does have control over? Not acting like an entitled asshole and insulting / talking down to fans.

If he just talked to us like we were real people and even gave a remote shit about what the fans of the band have been through, our attitude would be completely different.

Dude seems to get a thrill from flaunting the fact that he was born into a super privileged world. Good for him, I guess? Doesn't mean any of us have to like it or even accept it.

Sometimes I feel like GN'R fandom is a sick cult and the more people that escape, the better lol

Nah I mean you’re totally right. It’s not even up for debate, at this point. Anyone who defends that kind of needless ungraciousness is a masochist fan who just loves this band a little too much.

But there is no changing it.

So my thinking was you can rage or just kinda stand back and shrug. And not get carried away in thinking he has the ability to really shift the course of this band, it’s content or media strategy in any substantive way relative to Axl. The proof of which is in all the stuff he says not coming true or being vague / contradictory. It’s not lies, it’s just fluff.

  5. As ridiculous as he comes off, I don't think he really has control over much of anything except the embarrassing merch. It's probably not worth being mad over.

He has his position because he just does what Axl wants and is so financially and socially dependent on him, he won't fuck Axl over like a lot of managers of yesteryear (from his perspective).

If Axl wanted videos, they'd be out. If he wanted a live CD, we'd have it. If a UYI box set comes out, it'll be from a label push and band agreement. And if Axl wanted us to know about any of it in advance, Fernando would oblige. Just blast Beggars and Hangers On and toast one to flebeis.

I agree. They could have just as easily presented it as a "new" song instead of marketing it as an unreleased demo or whatever. It worked wonders with Van Halen's A Different Kind Of Truth. Every song was recycled from old demos, finished, and re-recorded. Die hard fans knew they were "old" songs but as far as general audiences were concerned it was the first new music with Roth in some 16 years.

It’s weird, too, since Axl has seemed to want to give his hired guys opportunities to show their chops, has never seemed to be interested in maintaining any kind of AFD lineup “purity” and he still doesn’t seem to like Adler much at all.

Maybe it was dictated by the label for marketing as you touched on; would they have that kind of control?
