  1. These shoppers are so stupid they don't realise the best deals are to be had online every fucking day of the year!

    Yup.

And the South Park Game of Thrones 3 part parody addressed Black Friday excellently.

The other day I bought this dress online for A$11 (US$9.36) and it included shipping!!!.

No need to look for a carpark, stand in line, hang around the sterile environment of a shopping centre on a day which I would rather spend with my family and friends.......just a few clicks online at 11pm one evening just as I was about to hop into bed......a week later there it was on my doorstep, all the way from the UK to Australia for US$9.36.

(I must add though that I will wear it back to front because the low cut V looks much better on my back than on my front. The colour is great on me too, if I say so myself :P)

Basically I think the retail industry needs to start trying a lot harder than making their customers venture out on a day that they should be spending with their families, not to mention allowing their employees to do the same, for the sake of a few sales. It's time for them to wake up.

  2. My point wasn't about impact on society, my point was that just because 'the whole of human history' did something a certain way or held a particular belief, doesn't justify those actions or beliefs....or prove that they were correct.

I agree. I was rather joking with my 'Victorian' thing.

The reason I would not attend the birth is, I simply do not think it is a man's place and I do not believe we can possibly do any good in there. But it is interesting that there has never been any urge by masculinity to enter the delivery room until, the 1950s/60s - and I would say it has only proliferated since the 1990s. This supports, in my view, the fact it is an alien concept conceived by left wing Guardian reading ideologues.

Nah, I'd say the stronger voice of women in society in general has more to do with it. Since the 50s and 60s women have had a much greater presence in many aspects of day to day life and as a result it is at THEIR request as well as most men actually wanting to be there to support their wife/partner, that demands their presence in the delivery room. Life today is so much more equal that it's only viewed as right that the father should be there in the trenches supporting the mother. I don't think the Guardian has anything to do with it whatsoever.

  3. Do you think a person who has unnecessary cosmetic surgery (not corrective surgery or anything like that) are damaged individuals? Do you respect their decision to alter their physical appearance in pursuit of a new-found confidence or do you think these people are foolhardy?

There are many reasons why people choose to have plastic surgery but ultimately I think it comes down to the fact that society has always had an ideal of what is beautiful, particularly for women. Today it's a youthful appearance, a slim body and certain facial features yet in other centuries the ideal was quite different. Unfortunately we live in a corporate world where many companies profit significantly from making people who don't fit the 'ideal' naturally, feel like shit for not doing so. Skin care, makeup, hair dye, body shaping garments like push up bras and Spanx, diet pills, fake tanning products.....the list goes on, are all there to profit from our inadequacies. For some the last resort is to have surgery after they've most likely already spent copious amounts of money on the aforementioned. It's a choice they make because......well......they can. I'm sure if the options were available in previous centuries a certain percentage of the population would have done it too.

It's funny to look at what was considered 'beautiful' in the past compared to today:

Pale skin, small breasts, big full hips:

Small narrow lips, smallish eyes with little to no definition and grey hair!!!!

    99qekm.jpg

In the 18th century women actually powdered their hair to make it grey.

  4. I would love to get rid of the little bags under my eyes ( as you can see). But I think I will have to wait to see what the ravages of time do to my face before I will really know how I feel about it. Right now I can still tolerate looking at my mug in the mirror. As my Mom says, if bags under your eyes are your biggest problem you are truly blessed indeed.

    That is so true.

I like to live by this philosophy when it comes to 'bags':

  5. I just had to come back to look at her. Utterly adorable.

I think she's lovely because she's Dazey's little girl (:)) but for some reason I never look at babies and think they're cute.

They're always a funny colour and all wrinkly and they make weird noises and poo a lot. So do puppies and kittens when I think about it but they're all furry and their heads are too big for their bodies and they're clumsy and I find that really cute.

I do really like little girls clothes though. Little miniature dresses.........now that is adorable!

  6. Yet for the whole of human history, up until the last twenty years in fact, no man has ever entered a delivery room unless he be a pediatrician. If there was some sort of, innate urgency, to be present, surely we would have been present a whole lot sooner?

Being present for the gory spectacle, the screaming, does not lessen the uniqueness and special nature of gaining a child. Usually in fact, this happens,

Nurse: ''just calm your wife and hold her hand Mr___''

Man: ''Okay''. (holding her hand) ''don't worry darling, just breath - it will all be over sooner''.

Woman ''FUCK OFF YOU CUNT. IT WAS YOU WHO GOT ME IN THIS POSITION TO BEGIN WITH''.

Then later, man passes out when he sees the gory details.

Yet for the whole of human history, up until the last 60 years or so women weren't allowed to vote and black people had no rights.......as if the beliefs of human history have any standing whatsoever on what is right. :max:

  7. I'm just disappointed in people that their consumerism is so bad that they actually buy into doing Black Friday during Thanksgiving dinner. If nobody went shopping, stores wouldn't open then. I'm disappointed that so many people feed the monster.

Maybe we should make a list of well-known stores that are closed on Thanksgiving, so that we can consider giving them more of our business, and giving the stores that are open less business.

Costco is closed on Thanksgiving. Great place to shop.

These shoppers are so stupid they don't realise the best deals are to be had online every fucking day of the year!

And the ridiculous thing is that a lot of these stores deliberately ship in inferior quality products that are used in the supposedly amazing sales. It's tragic!

I remember back in 1989, I got my first part time job at the age of 15 at FoodPlus, which was a local equivalent of 7Eleven. My sister had worked there too for her first part time job and that's how I got the job. The guy who operated the store was a pretty nice guy but my heart sank when I got my roster for the Christmas period which had me working Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day (December 26 public holiday), New Years Eve and New Years Day!!!! I was particularly fond of Christmas and asked to have at least Christmas Day off, thinking that was not an unreasonable request for a 15 year old high school kid with a part time job. The answer was "no". Apparently being a convenience store (back in the day before 7 day a week trading was normal) they had every staff member rostered on to cope with what was always the busiest time of year.

    So I quit.

I told the guy "if you can't give me just Christmas Day free to spend with my family I'll not be available for any of the days". He didn't want to acquiesce so accepted my resignation. I was really happy to have all the time free and a few weeks later got a part time job at one of the local fashion boutiques that was more suited to me anyway and from whence I met one of my best friends. :) A year later my sister saw the guy who ran the shop and he said he had a lot of respect for me and what I did. I felt proud at that time for standing up for what I valued. Fortunately, I didn't have to pay the gas and electricity bills and the mortgage so I was enabled to be so principled. It's very unfortunate that certain industries (hospitality as well as retail) don't fight for those days off for EVERYONE.

Are we that addicted to consumption that we can't even curb our appetites for one day so that manipulated employees can have a special day with the people they love? Apparently, yes we are. That's some pretty fucked up shit. I consider myself pretty materialistic.....I buy a lot of clothes and shoes, yet even I have no problem with the shops closing on certain days completely. But some people are SO fucked up that they would actually prefer to be in a shop rather than spend the day with someone they love. It's actually quite scary how numb their souls must be.

  8. It was a freak accident but it was from a type of aggressive bowling which has caused controversy in the past because there, is an element of intimidation, even 'roughing up' the batsman. Basically the delivery, called a bouncer, hits the ground short and at a tremendous pace, meaning it reaches up to a batsman's head height, i.e. it is not really aiming to hit the stumps but aimed at the batsman himself.

Have a look at this, Red (it is only three minutes long so do not worry!). This is a masterclass in aggressive bowling,

    See what I mean?

There has been - and to certain extent, still is - a lobby of the cricket community who sees this as, antithetical to sportsmanship and fairplay: ''it is just not cricket ole' boy''.

    PS

This is not to slight Abbott who is completely 100% blameless and must feel devastated. Legally, bouncers are permitted and are a part of cricket. It was an unfortunate series of circumstances, Hughes playing a wild hook - which he should never have attempted - with the ball heading for the wrong area of the batsman's profile at the wrong time. This all happened at a tremendous speed (reducing the time frame for human reaction to a minuscule amount).

As a lay person who has never understood and therefore watched cricket I find this antithetical to sportsmanship. How can one hit a ball aimed at one's head, with a bat held in one's hands? It's just not possible to actually hit the ball. But I can also see where the lines get blurred.....it's extremely open for interpretation and it's a 'game'.....the intention with professional sport is precisely to make it as difficult as possible to hit the ball.

But when someone dies as a result of a ball being bowled at the batsmanship above his waist, instead of below the waist, and with knowledge of the possibility of injury......that's not sport anymore. Cricket isn't dare devil stuff, it never has been and never will. It's about skill and fair play and should be won that way.

  9. Wasn't it a freak accident though?

Or is there a technique used in bowling where this outcome was a known possibility? I don't know enough about cricket to understand how it happened but based on the news reports I thought it was just a freak occurrence, which by rights could happen to anyone on the pitch.

  10. Poor Mrs Dazey :( But baby (or little bugger) is still fine? How much dilation is there?

Do we really need to know those intimate details? :max:

Come on, people are talking about snorting the baby out, several moms have talked about their labour, but asking for cms is too intimate?

Sorry Lio, I don't mean to offend. Yes, certain comments have been made that are inappropriate and some posters have shared their own experiences (and that's their choice I suppose), but asking a super personal question during a very harrowing and emotional experience seems to me to be something we should just leave to those involved.

Maybe it's a cultural thing, maybe it's something that those who haven't given birth before consider a bit too personal? :)

  11. The poor bugger has passed away, they switched off his life support.

    RIP

I'm not even a cricket fan but this has really saddened me. I'm just shocked. 25 years old. He had so much potential and so much to live for. I can't even imagine what his family is going through. My heart just breaks for them. I see criminals on the news every day causing pain and heartbreak for innocent people and nothing happens to them and then a good decent human being with so much talent and potential is taken....just like that. :(

Life is random and 'fairness' is just a fairy tale.

  12. Fuckin' shite if you ask me, Subway I mean, they never put much of the shit in it, sets you back a fiver just for what you could get in some family run Deli type place, it's just naff, biggest letdown ever, that place.

How the fuck can you hate Subway? It's a fucking sandwich.

The most processed, full of additives and unnatural sandwich on this planet. It's dreadful. I cant stand the smell alone whenever I walk past a Subway. The bread is just the weirdest tasting and most appalling texture, it's closer to plastic than bread with all the additives in it. And then all the sauces and mayonnaise have so much sugar in them they may as well drizzle chocolate or caramel sundae sauce on top. It's just W.R.O.N.G.

  13. Dazey you stay in there and let her squeeze your hand once they give her that medicine! It's just awful.

I think it's fair to say that Mrs McLeod will do more than just squeeze his hand if it's that bad.

Let's not be surprised if Dazey comes home with a baby, but minus one of his limbs.

  14. :max: I remember this exact occasion. I live in Melbourne and at this moment I was 14 years old and my mum WOULDNT LET ME FUCKING GO TO THIS SHOW!!!!

OK, so my Mum was being a normal, reasonable and loving mother at the time she decided it wasn't safe for me as a 14 yo to travel into the big city (I grew up in the suburbs) to see Guns n Roses (as much as she eventually enjoyed SCOM and Patience).

I tend to agree with her decision now (I'm 40 right now and she was 44 at the time) but at that time I thought she was the biggest bitch on earth. How could she possibly prevent me from experiencing my heroes??? What a bitch???!

No. What a loving, caring and concerned Mum I had. I owe so much to her. My mum is the fucking shit. I'm glad she kept she safe until I could ACTUALLY deal with stuff like this.

  15. If she has actually turned her head down already she might be very chilly. I mean her Mum is a Texan and she might be thinking......"what the fuck is this shit cold extremity I feel from Mum's c***?" It's not unreasonable, really it's not.

In fact when it comes to UK weather I'd give it a big bad: :max:

  16. I'm on a parcel delivery HIGH!!!!!

I just got my order from asos and it's FUCKING AWESOME!!!! Everything fits to perfection except the black top I bought which I noticed has a slight variant from one strap to the other. It's only a quarter of an inch different but it annoys the shit out of me, but it's easy to fix so I'll do that on the weekend.

Now.......whether to wear the black dress or the pants to work tomorrow??? Decisions, decisions, decisions......

And seriously, 2 dresses, a top and a pair of tailored pants for A$160!!!!!

  17. Telling girls you are crazy about them generally only works in movies.

I would tend to agree with this, with one exception and that is that it's clear that the girl is already nuts for you. Then there's two possibilities:

    1. The guy IS actually crazy about the girl (pretty rare)

    2. The guy is just saying it so he can have sex and he'll deal with the consequences after (much more common)
