I don’t really believe in all of the trilogy shit. Axl never really strikes me as the George Lucas type who would have this shit all planned out a million years ago. Maybe incidentally it all fell together a certain way but I always just see songs as themselves.

That being said im fucking excited to hear this song and you could call it the sequel to My World for all I give a shit. Bring on the FN General.

We all know the true trilogy we need to see come to fruition: My World, Absurd, and whatever's next. Round 2.

Well, let's hope it really has vocals

I've been 16 years on this forum... 16 years reading about this mythical song. It can never live up to the hype.

But I'm very interested in hearing it of course.

Yeah, I'm not sure it can ever really live up to the hype. But I will gladly listen to it and judge that for myself.

This is definitely some great news! Trying to not get excited because who knows if something changes or gets altered last minute. But it's just really awesome to see The General listed. No Spotify shenanigans, no major speculation. It's just right there. If they would do that more often, and stop beating around the bush, I'd be a much more optimistic person.

Trying to be objective I'd say Perhaps is about a 6/10, maybe 6.5/10.

There's a good song there that suffers from some odd mixing choices, repeated lyrics and a weak solo. Like Absurd, I'm expecting the live versions will be a lot better, and I'm looking forward to hearing it in Vancouver.

(For reference I'd say Hardschool is about 5/10 and Absurd maybe a 2/10)

Pretty similar ratings for me. HS is definitely a 5/10 and Perhaps is a 6. I wouldn’t be that nice to Absurd, though. 0.5/10. The only reason it’s not a 0 is because it was actually released.

So, I guess I am being generous.

  4. What kills me about the band is that they just don't seem to understand that we're in an internet age. Whether August 11th/18th is official or not, someone is going to find those graphics when they're out there. Someone is going to record the soundchecks. Someone is going to find Perhaps on a shitty jukebox app and upload it to SoundCloud. These things are par for the course in this age. Especially considering GNR fans are desperate to hear new material. I mean, they must know this by now, right? Ehhhhh, I don't think they do. Which is puzzling beyond belief, honestly.

What kills me even more is that they've had numerous leaks before, and yet, they still don't learn. There are far too many oversights here. I'm not going to blame some overzealous fan on the internet for managing to find this shit out. They're doing more work than GNR is at this point. The band is like a character on Men In Black, constantly getting their mind wiped with a light. They just seem to forget that when these things are ready to go, you better: a) release that shit, or b) plug that hole in every single way possible, before it's even meant to be snuffed out. Unfortunately for them, they can't seem to do either. So, they get caught in this ridiculous limbo where they won't release music and also can't plug up every leak. They're so reactive (to a massive fault), when they should be more proactive.

some; people's reactions on here reminded me why I stopped posting on this forum you; suggest people should just relax and take a deep breath because a song wasn't released and you'd think I insulted someone's family.

I want new releases from Guns N Roses as much as any fan but my life doesn't revolve around what the band is doing. Right now they're on tour and the fans who have tickets are going to enjoy their experience whether there's new material or not

find something else to invest all of your time in....trust me

Whose life revolves around the band? Sounds like you’re just projecting because someone bothered you. I’m sure every fan on this forum engages in other things as well.

Isn’t it obvious that this band doesn’t operate like most other bands? Why keep getting your hopes up and getting disappointed? Unless you’re a new fan, it’s awfully naive to constantly let that happen. I don’t get that.
And I disagree. Some fans do create their own time frame and then when something doesn’t happen, they get mad, but the reality of the situation is that they never announced it in the first place, so it’s absurd getting mad, especially with the knowledge of how this band, unfortunately, operates. And this is not me defending GnR, this is me being rational about it.

Just for the record, you can be rational about the band, whilst also being disappointed in them. The fact that their dysfunction is well established is more of a sad fact for the band, not its fans.

Oh yeah, that's what I was doing, defending Axl (a man I don't even know) ''vigorously'', to get a hug, hahaha.
p.s. I don't defend the band at all, I don't care enough nor do I have reason to, but as many before me pointed out, in this case the band never announced a date for the release of a song, so people getting disappointed is all on them. I didn't get disappointed because I know better. So yes, it is not exactly smart to expect something that's not announced and then to get mad, especially in the case of band like GnR. And this is not the first time you see that around here.

Okay. Again, that's not the point. People wanting a new song and not getting it is not really the disappointing aspect for them. The disappointing aspect comes from knowing deep down that this band is a constant disappointment in general.

If they were a normal, functioning band, not releasing a song here and there wouldn't make a chunk of their fanbase roll their eyes so hard. It would just be a normal plan change. A plan change for GNR is such a colossal comedy of errors and poor planning that many fans get annoyed over the very nature of releasing music in the first place. I don't think anyone on here can tell me (with a straight face, at least) that this band doesn't make things harder on themselves. There are so many opportunities for this band to provide small wins here and there, and they just never take them. Even Absurd and HS were swings and misses because of such awful execution, and those were songs they actually released. People may like those tracks, but it goes back to the band being a disappointment in this regard for a long time.

You keep bringing up intelligence. The fans that are disappointed don't care about August 11th and aren't furious with them about it. They're annoyed that even though there is writing on the wall, the band can't actually get something together, which has been their modus operandi for, how long now? Too many years.

Isn't that how it always goes? People set time frames for something to happen based on rumours, soundchecks or whatever, not the band, and then when it doesn't happen within their own created time frame, they get mad at the band (particularly Axl) instead of themselves. The overall intelligence level isn't very high here.

Axl's not going to give you a hug for defending him so vigorously.

People aren't pissed about August 11th. That date has no meaning. It's the overall functioning of the band itself. This isn't anything new. It wasn't new today, it wasn't new last week, it wasn't even new when the reunion started a million years ago. People aren't actually expecting new music, because this is Guns N' Roses. We've all read this book before. However, many fans clearly have a desire to hear what's next. That is human nature. To be curious. The reason they get a little irked about it is because they'd like to hear something new in their lifetime. It reaches the point of ridiculousness. People aren't just pulling these things out of the air.

The band doesn't owe anyone anything, but when they have members saying that news will be coming within the week, they're soundchecking new songs, we get potential release dates for new releases, etc., it's going to naturally stir some curiosity. And what do we receive for that curiosity? Overpriced AFD reissues/merch and more BS. The funny thing is, they'll just laugh at people like you who seem to defend their every move because they can get away with shitting out this ridiculous merchandise, since they know it's being purchased. Just like their live shows. They know people will just go, and even if they don't, who cares? They have their money at this point.

Honestly, defending such a husk of a band is laughable to me. You can insult the intelligence of the fans all you want, but believe me, the band isn't laughing at the ones who are annoyed. They're laughing at the ones who lap up everything they do because they can get away with it. I'd much rather be on the side of people wishing for something more than on the other side, stapling a smile on my face for Uncle Axl.

They paid Steven Wilson a huge amount to remix UYI recently.....then didn't even bother releasing it.

They paid a professional camera crew  to record one of the 2017 US shows.....then didn't even bother releasing it.

They paid remixers to do a whole album of CD remixes.....then didn't even bother releasing it.

    Etc etc.

    It's all madness.

Don't even remind me of that UYI business. What a waste.
