  1. Are you seriously throwing my name around on a Kat Benzova thread? Or are you talking about another Andre?? She's really hot btw!

Anyways, Murph told me  that someone was throwing around my name here, so I thought I would come here and say my piece.

I haven't been around in forums or discord groups in ages! I get my GNR news from Murph and another dude, and very rarely I come here to check out the reactions when there's new songs and make a comment on it. But I haven't been active in the forums for a very long time (since the locker leaks).

I don't know why people still dwell on stuff that happened 15 years ago (!?!), but for what it's worth, you have my guarantee that I didn't do anything wrong recently and I can guarantee that I'm not involved in any attempts to get songs or leaks or whatever you wanna call it, if that's what I'm being accused of (I didn't read it but that's usually the topic where my name gets brought up).  As a matter of fact, I never leaked anything in my life, as I never had anything to begin with.
I think the stories of all the leaks are readily available online for everyone to read anyways, so go read it, and anyone knows the real characters in those stories.
My time in the public forums or discords is over, and I have no intentions of changing that.

Furthermore, since I'm not active in the forums anymore, and if it makes you feel happier, mods you can go ahead and ban me from the forum, if you wish to do so.

I hope everything's well with the few people I know from here. Cheers!

  2. F***!! How good are those!

Honestly I would risk to say that this is better than anything on Chinese Democracy, including Hard Skool, Absurd and Perhaps. This is on another level!

I liked "Monsters" the most. Could this be "Soul Monster", "Monstrosity" or "Elvis Presley & the Monster of Soul"?? After all, this is the intro to the shows (and not The General), unless it was all one piece at one time.

The General is great too. Both songs are really strong! But stand out for Axl's crazy 90s like vocals on "Monsters", sounded like 28 years old Axl again!

  3. Honestly this whole delay/touchtone happenings were a huge turn off!

I was already a bit "not excited" with the choice of the song, as I didn't think it was "Hit single material", I think at best "Perhaps" would be like a "Breakdown", "So Fine" or "Bad Obsession", a good filler song in an album... But I was already convinced into giving it a chance... then the delay happened. I kind of lost most of the interest. I'm like in a "Meh" state now...

Of course, it's great that they're releasing music, which doesn't happen a lot, but at the same time... How is it possible that this happened?!?

As for the song itself, I liked the version that leaked in 2019 better, but I still didn't make my final decision, as it seems that the version that leaked recently on the jukeboxes, you can't really hear the full guitar parts from Slash. It's mostly Duff's bass really loud in the mix and some Slash guitar. I'm hoping that official release with great quality will clarify that. I'm hoping there's more guitar work that we couldn't hear in the mix that leaked in the jukeboxes, because of quality issues.

  4. Just bought the 2 deluxe versions of the albums. I think this will be enough for me!
Still don’t get the need to include “Sail Away Sweet Sister, the drum and guitar solos, and especially “Always on the Run” and “Train Kept a Rollin” without Axl… but oh well… the cds sound great in my car, “Perfect Crime” is such a crazy track! Axl really nailed it live! And the other live tracks quality is amazing! Well worth the 24 euros I paid for each one!

  5. I’m just listening to the remasters now. Honestly, did these albums even need a remaster? It’s not like in any other album, where you quickly notice the diference in the remaster. I barely notice any difference in some of the tracks, except for the volume (there’s some songs where you obviously do notice the difference, Double Talkin Jive, Civil War, Dead Horse, Bad Apples, Shotgun Blues in my opinion). Plus I’m not very interested in the live stuff, so Apple Music will be enough for me.

Maybe I’ll pick up the deluxe versions of the cds later on, when they’re at a discount price, for collection sakes, but I’m definitely not buying this stuff for 200-300. They really f’up in not including the demos.

  6. Good but unnecessary. For me the original mix remastered would have done it. I can totally see the interest from Axl in doing this, but in my opinion, if you had to include this mix, it should have been as an extra track. Maybe on another cd, with the “Ain’t Going Downs” and the “Just another Sundays”… Dunno why they didn’t include the demos… I would have loved to have the original demo for 14 years with the long solo outro.

So for me it’s kind of meh… ok we got a new remix of NR, but we didn’t get the remaster of the original. It doesn’t hurt much, but it’s not great either.

As for the track itself, The mix is a little bit too loud for starters, it sounds a bit too digital for me because of that. Because all the instruments sound like they’re being played with the same volume. I did like how the drums sound in the outro though! And I liked the fact that the background vocals sound more loud than in the original version.

Oh yeah, I figured you were talking about that picture. People mistakenly think those tapes had to do with GN'R and that TB took them etc. and it's brought up over and over, but most of that stuff wasn't GN'R stuff. There was only a DAT tape with two Duff/Izzy demos from 1995. The other stuff was mostly from Duff's collaborations post-GN'R, so it was Duff who collected those tapes, not the band (Susan even mentioned it in an interview). (except the one I mentioned, but that was post-UYI so it wouldn't have been in a UYI box set anyway).

Yes that was it lol I thought they were from the UYI era. Nevermind then.

I think it's possible, yes. Although I would imagine that Clink would have kept some kind of archive (according to Marc Canter, he had kept the tryout session of SOYL that was released - partially re-recorded or not - on the AFD box set) but that might probably be proper recordings and not demos. A lot of stuff was in the hands of various people associated with the band that was subsequently lost, sold, shared etc.

Naa... Everyone has heard the QSound mixes by now... They're widely available. I refuse to believe they don't have the demo of "Ain't Going Down" or some of the demos. They even retrieved a bunch of tapes recently. It was talked about here and it was from that era. There was even a picture of it somewhere, of someone that returned it to the band. Slash teased that he had tapes with the songs without Axl's piano parts. And they could have just reached collectors that have some of those tapes as well. On the top of my head, I remember there was this Australian guy from HTGTH that had some tapes from Niven from that era.

I don't think that was the problem to be honest. I think they just decided to go in a different direction with this boxset.

In regards to the 14 Years outtake with the long outro, I didn't expect that either, because it was probably what Axl was joking about here:

    https://www.a-4-d.com/t1852-2012-11-24-the-joint-las-vegas-usa#28389

I guess it's different strokes for different folks, etc. I remember when the AFD box set was released there were many people complaining about the lack of live stuff and about the demos included, because it was stuff that had been out there for ages, and there were only two "uninteresting" unheard demos (The Plague and New Work Tune). Now people complain about the opposite, only live stuff and no demos that we've already heard. Of course they could have had both in both box sets, but well...

We  have also been asking for pro-shots from that era for so long, people were saying that it would only be Tokyo blah blah blah, and now that one is released that we only had a low quality video bootleg of, we don't want it? (although yeah, it's lame that someone has to buy the whole thing to get it).

I can understand that. But I expected at least a high quality demo of Ain't Going Down and Just Another Sunday or demos of some of the songs included in the boxset. For me it makes no sense to have more than 1 live show in the boxset. Ritz 91 or Rio would have been enough for me. But the demos not being there is a huge turn off for me, and for that reason I'm not gonna buy it.

  10. The 99 version of "Oh My God" was officially released as part of the "End of Days" soundtrack. On the movie itself it was played during the movie credits at the end of the movie.

It was also released as a single and a promo single cd was also sold on websites like ebay.

Axl himself was quoted as saying that the song wasn't ready for release and therefore it was just a rough demo. It was said somewhere else on an interview (don't remember where) that it was Jimmy Iovine that rushed the release of the song.

i'd like this but have Berlin/oklahoma and hard skool with Eye on you and Light my fire dropped from that

I don't think "Eye on You" will be a thing. I mean they used parts of it for Hard Skool, so I highly doubt that song has a future release. I think "Oh My God" has a better chance of being released again, then "Eye On You".

  12. According to Zutaut, the album was ready to be released in 2010 and then the reunion happened. So I think it's safe to say that there's at least one album worth of songs with vocals. That album included Absurd, Atlas Shrugged and Hard School. We also know that The General has vocals, because we've heard that phone recording, and although we couldn't understand the lyrics, we could hear that there were vocals on the song. We also know that Perhaps has vocals.

So if the second album has the same length of CD, we're looking at about 8 or 9 songs with finished vocals without counting with The General, Absurd, Atlas, Hard School and Perhaps.

I'm guessing State of Grace, Soul Monster, Quick Song, Seven and Oklahoma/Berlin all have completed vocals by now. They were all supposed to be on the next album, so that leaves us with 3 or 4 "unknown" songs. One of those songs could be PRL, since the album was supposed to be called PRL and there's actually a song with that name on the Village Sessions.

Those 3 or 4 unknown songs could be some of the following:

    • PRL
    • Cuban Skies
    • Monstrosity
    • Tonto
    • Zodiac
    • Going Down
    • Eye on You (Highly doubt they will do this song, since excerpts were released on HS)
    • Oh My God (If they want to re-release it)
    • As It Began
    • Devious Bastard
    • Curly Shuffle
    • D Tune
    • Down By The Ocean
    • Light My Fire

Obviously this is only speculation, as things can change any minute, working titles can develop to other titles, Slash and Duff might have a say on what they wanna record or not and who knows if there's ever another album. They might turn it into an EP or singles along the way.

"The public gets a different story from the other guys Slash, Duff, Matt - who have their own agendas. The original intentions between Paul and myself were that Paul was going to help me for as long as it took to get this thing together in whatever capacity that he could help me in. So when he first was brought into this, he was brought in as a writer to work with Slash. At the time those guys never suggested one name. Nobody else. Ever.
Paul was one of the best people we knew who was both available and capable of complimenting Slash’s style. You could bring in a better guitar player than Paul. You could bring in a monster. I tried putting Zakk Wylde with Slash and that didn’t work. It brought out some interesting things in Slash but it was a different approach that ended up being overpowering and didn’t bring out the best in Slash. It brought out some interesting things and it would’ve worked to do some songs. But Paul was only interested in complimenting Slash, laying down a foundation of a riff or something. That would accent or encourage slash's lead playing. Now whether or not Paul was going to be officially on the album or on the tour that really wasn’t an actual consideration at the time. It was in the air as a possibility but Paul was a friend trying to help us and he had a huge respect for Slash. He is and this is the bottom line a good man and that's the reality behind things. That doesn't change what took place with old Guns. I feel that some of the recordings we did in that limited amount of time had some of the best playing that Slash had done at least since Illusions. I was there. I know what I heard and it was pretty exciting.”

    http://www.heretodaygonetohell.com/news/shownews.php?newsid=490

That's some good information! But I still think it wasn't up for Axl to decide who better complemented Slash. I think it was more of Slash responsibility to find someone who complemented him, because he his the guitar player, and Axl isn't. So who better than Slash to find a player that complemented him?!?

But was Paul or Gilby hired to play solos? no, they were capable of playing the Izzy role. Not saying they are as good writers as Izzy but his parts could at least be replicated. When I listen to gnr live 99-02 I don't think "oh hell, Paul is all over the place" he sounded fine to me and I'm critical and wasn't a fan of his because I fully went along with Slash's version of events.

To me he "sounded" like his amp wasn't even connected to be honest. Especially in Rio... I'm not saying that was the case, but he was all over the place with gesturing with his guitar in hand, and something seemed off...

  15. Paul was a good lyricist according to Axl, but he wasn't a good guitar player according to Slash! I'm sure Axl as a great Lyricist knows how to appreciate another good lyricist. As I'm sure Slash as a great guitar player, knows how to tell if he's playing with someone good or not...

How many shows did Paul do with GNR? Considering that do you really think Paul was ever a viable option? I think it showed for itself...

Personally I don't think Gilby is a good guitar player either (Have you seen his live shows? Him playing Sweet Child? A total disaster in my opinion). So the change was inevitable, but I think here Slash should have had the upper hand on picking the guitar player he was gonna play with, because Axl doesn't get in into that dynamic. Slash needed to find a guy who he could play with.
