I'm certainly not defending the Brazilians who couldn't run a piss-up in a brewery but you didn't exactly obtain these archival shows when Goldstein, Merck and Azoff were managing either, did you? Pearl Jam after all have been offering compact discs of their shows for a very long time, so, if there were a will? The answer as to why nothing is ever released then rests solely with W. Axl Rose who seems to prefer the managements of his band to be chaotic and incompetent.

With Azoff you got the album! After 10 years of studio work. After a number of failed tentative releases and promises.

Say what you will but the man managed to get the album released, and that's all it matters to us.

If GNR was managed by Q-Prime like MetallicA then literally everything we currently question regarding music, comms, mech (and pricing), audio/video would be a moot point as it would not have got to this point. We would have all of the above and more already.

Totally Agree! It's the difference of having quality management!

Recently Metallica announced that they joined a streaming service to stream the audio of over 600 of their previous shows, I think it costs $12.99 a month. I cannot fathom why GNR wouldn’t just make some money like this streaming their soundboards from over the years. What’re your guys thoughts?

Because Team Brazil is not as competent as Metallica's management! Metallica is a well oiled machine!

  4. I don't see the albums that way at all.

UYI 1 has more southern oriented songs than UYI 2 (Dust N'Bones, You Ain't the First, Bad Obsession, Bad Apples).

I see it as a mix up of all styles. Like Axl explained on an interview, it was a compilation of everyone's ideas, so everyone would be happy with the record, since they couldn't agree with a direction.

As a matter of fact UYI 2 has more Appetite era recorded songs as well (KOHD, You Could Be Mine, Civl War, Don't Cry (even though it's an alternate version) ). It wasn't experimental at all, apart from My World... It was actually the left overs that weren't put on Appetite and Use Your Illusion 1. (Don't Cry 2 is an obvious one and a very good example of that).

  5. Brain is a good new metal drummer. He was all over the place in GNR with the classic songs which was pretty confusing, and I didn't like it the style he played those songs. It was like watching Limp Bizkit covering Welcome to the Jungle or You could Be Mine.

He's obviously talented and creative but didn't fit the bill.

Frank is a Matt Sorum in beginner's mode.

They should have secured Josh. Josh Freese was definitely the best drummer they had since Matt Sorum.

  6. Two things I memorized from this thread, "We've taken back control of our fan club, this fan club will be the most twisted sucker of your block and you deserve nothing less", and the 2 dollar coupon.

Come to think of it, it still sounds better than today's "Nightrain". At least you would get an interview with Matt Sorum in your mail.

It's probably full, let me check!

    EDIT: done!

Slightly off-topic, but as another example of "artists being prolific during recording sessions", there are FOUR albums worth of outtakes from Aerosmith's "Permanent Vacation" album, and it's a treasure trove - tons of unreleased, completed songs, early versions of songs that eventually made the album w/different lyrics, a full 1986 rehearsal, etc. It's pretty incredible, really.

I would love to listen to those recordings from Aerosmith! The band at their best!

  9. Since the guy also has the VR lights and some Screaming Trees recordings, there's obviously a pattern and it's safe to assume that the specific "owner" was probably Duff or Slash. I would say Duff.

He probably store them there and forgot they ever existed... And now someone from management went there to pick it up.

    Wait.

How is it gone forever? He turned the tapes over to the people that own them (again, most likely Universal). So if anything, this would mean that the record company has even more recordings to work with in the future.

Yeah! They will start to work on it when we're dead...

    Complaints Complaints Complaints ??

For the record, MSL never confirmed this as a tracklist, these are the songs he said he had on a flash drive in China, he Said something along the lines of "if anything happens to me legally, those songs are there" like he was threatening to leak them if management came at him, crazy times. I don't even think Cuban Skies, Monstrosity, Light My Fire or Tonto were confirmed as real besides him saying they exist, although I believe Fortus eventually released an instrumental song called Tonto somewhere.

Not saying that this is a confirmed tracklist at all.

We're just trowing if's here. If the tracklist of the next album was this one, if that's the tracklist that gets released. etc...

Did you seriously just call an album "pretty weak" that you literally know nothing about beyond rumored song titles? Haha! Oh, wow. An album review of song titles.

As I said we've heard two complete songs of that album. Going Down is acceptable, it has some cool moments. Silkworms is not as good (Bear in mind that I'm a GNR Hardcore fan, so I still have love for those songs, but being totally impartial, this two songs overall, are not up to GNR Standards, in my opinion. I still like them but...).

We've heard roughly 30 seconds of Jackie Chan (Checkmate), and quite frankly I personally didn't like what I heard in those 30 seconds. What I've heard on those 30 seconds seems weaker and less interesting than Silkworms.

We've also heard some of the main melody of The General, and although we can't make much of it, because of the quality, the melody is clear enough and it's clear enough for you to know that it probably won't live up to its Hype.

So what I'm saying is that the rest of the songs, the 7 songs that are on that tracklist, would have to be pretty damn good, for that album to live it's expectations!

Frankly, when we heard Better and Chinese Democracy and Street of Dreams, and There was a time for the first time and were all rambling here at the forums, I believe you could genuinely say that Chinese Democracy would have something special in it. Even if it was just those 4 songs! I don't quite feel the same way after listening to Going Down or Silkworms. (I still like them, it's GNR, it's interesting... but...).

So what I'm saying is that I truly hope Axl blows my mind, and shuts my mouth with those songs.

It's only my opinion Brotha! Dig it ?... Yeeeeaaaaaahhh!!

  13. Off all of that, I'm most curious about this points:

    013. January 2010 Axl email complaining about Dr. Dre

    048. January 2008 Axl email about how many albums to release (part 1)

    049. January 2008 Axl email about how many albums to release (part 2)

    066. June 2008 Axl email complaining about Tommy siding with Roy over Caram

    099. January 2008 Axl email about which songs should be on second album

The rest is pretty much gossip. Seeing this list of songs though:

    1. Atlas
    2. Cuban Skies
    3. Goin' Down
    4. Jackie Chan
    5. Light My Fire
    6. Monstrosity
    7. Silkworms
    8. Soul Monster
    9. The General
    10. Thyme
    11. Tonto

It seems like the next album would be pretty weak. We've already heard Going Down, Silkworms and a few seconds of Jackie Chan, and although I like it, I have to admit that it ain't all too great. Interesting songs, but not at Guns N'Roses standards. We have also heard the party clip from The General, and although we can hardly hear the song, I believe all of us would agree that we can perceive the melody and solos of the song. I'm going as far as saying that it doesn't sound like the epic song that all the hype surrounding it built into it.

So this leaves us with 7 songs, and those 7 songs, assuming this was really the tracklist for the album would have to be real classics for this album to survive! Wouldn't you agree??

In essence what I'm trying to say is that even though I really wanna hear this songs, this particular tracklist sounds much less promising than Chinese Democracy.

I hope I'm wrong.... I hope Axl shuts my fucking mouth and throw us with a masterpiece, I really do!

You mean that Axl acknowledged the hard drive incident? In what way?

Sorry but those quotes mean nothing. We know that there's unreleased material that Axl wants to release at some point, but so far I've found no evidence that the label rejected CD2. That's what I'm searching for. Evidence for the claim that the label rejecred CD2. "Same bat time same bat channel" could mean anything. It's definitely not proof that the label is the reason why CD2 hasn't been released.

He tweeted about the powerpoint part.

You can't be serious. You know what real album promotion looks like, right?

It's definitely not planning, then canceling tours. Not to mention the complete lack or interviews and / or TV appearances.

Are you suggesting that doing a couple shows in 2001, then having a tour canceled in 2002, then complete silence til 2006, then touring again for a year and a half is "promoting it for 8 years before it came out"?

That's just more or the rumors that came from MSLs infamous "thumb drive" deal. Who knows how much of that was even true.

Axl acknowledge it, so I think he was telling the truth.
