I can feel with you. Sleeping, and then all of the sudden it is a big bang and it shakes all over the place. Due to gass winning in our area (the Netherland, nothern part) we have lots of earthquakes. Last one in my town was on the 8th of January. It was a 3.4. That is a big one (for us) The earths then shakes 3 Km's deep. And the effect is severe. Lots and lots of houses are damaged., cracks in walls and stuff. Will be broken down and rebuild.
I know a 3.4 is something else than a 7.9, but it also depends how deep in the earth it takes place.
However, it is still not nice to experience something like that, and funny: it is always in that part of your sleep (just before waking up natualy) that it happens. It freaks the hell out of you.
