12 January 2010

World Entertainment News Network

Jan 12, 2010 (WENN via COMTEX) -- Former GUNS N' ROSES rocker GILBY CLARKE has been hospitalised after breaking his leg in a hit-and-run motorcycle accident.

The bassist, who played with the Paradise City hitmakers for three years, was riding his bike on Sunday (10Jan10) when the crash occurred. The other driver involved in the accident allegedly failed to stop at the scene, and the rocker is now said to be "resting comfortably" in hospital, according to a post on his personal Facebook.com page.

In a post on Twitter.com, U.S. radio host Riki Rachtman writes, "Some a**hole turned in front of (Gilby when) he was on a bike. His leg's busted up pretty bad. It was a hit-and-run... Gilby's got some good breakage in that leg. He is in good spirits considering."

Tracii Guns, guitarist with rock band LA Guns, also posted a message about his pal's condition. In a post on his Facebook.com page, he writes, "Gilby got nailed on his motorcycle last night. His leg is broken in three places. It was a hit and run. I am gonna try to go see him tonight - he will be ok."

No other details about the accident were available as WENN went to press.

Ex-GUNS N' ROSES Guitarist GILBY CLARKE Undergoes Surgery After Hit-And-Run Accident - Jan. 13, 2010

Former GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Gilby Clarke underwent surgery earlier today to repair one of his legs after he was seriously injured in a hit-and-run motorcycle accident in Los Angeles on Sunday (January 10). Gilby's wife, Daniella Clarke, writes on her Twitter page, "My guy is out of surgery. One down one more to go."

"While Gilby can't walk, since both legs [are] broken, the idiot that hit him and left is walking around somewhere with no guilt for what he did."

Photos of Clarke in the hospital and of the damage to his motorcycle can be viewed below (courtesy of Street Chopper).

Former MTV "Headbangers Ball" host Riki Rachtman posted a message on Twitter yesterday asking people to contact him if they know anything about the accident.

According to Riki, the incident occurred at around 5 p.m. PT when Clarke was making his way through Sherman Oaks, California. "He was riding south on Woodman and at the intersection of Moorpark, some idiot turned left right in front of him," Rachtman explains. "Gilby hit the passenger side of the vehicle. The driver took off."

He adds, "Here is what we know so far. [The vehicle was a pickup] truck, light color tan perhaps silver. There was a male driver and possibly a female passenger [who] could be Hispanic, but not sure. The truck looked fairly new and has damage on the passenger side."
