Vinyl LP and Turntable Discussion

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I ended up buying a GNR turntable (Pro-Ject audio essential iii) new in box off ebay.

I'm sure I will love the turntable, but by nature I like to tinker/upgrade things. In the future, what would be some worthwhile upgrades to the Essential iii? It already comes with the acrylic platter, would I notice a big difference if I upgraded the cartridge?

I don't know your setup but usually a good preamp has the greatest potential for improving the sound. Maybe you can try some preamps to hear the difference

I’m loving Feral Roots, I got the pink vinyl version from their web store. It kicks ass!

I spun it straight through last night. Probably their best overall album.

Right now I have to agree! I love all their albums but this one is the most enjoyable to play straight through, there aren’t any songs I wish I could skip

Picked up Ringo's Beaucoups of Blues today

also, while it's not vinyl related, it fits in here better than anywhere but I found Cheap Trick's super limited 8-track of "The Latest" which i am beyond excited about. I got it for 30 bucks which was the original price. Pretty sure they go for a couple hundred on eBay but there haven't been any on there in at least a couple years.

Picked up Hypnotize by SOAD yesterday. It's not as good as Mesmerize but the last track, Soldier Side, is my favorite SOAD song.

Also, I forgot to mention this earlier but I picked up an OP of Led Zeppelin II a few weeks ago

I'm going to run out to pick up the 3 new Prince releases today; Musicology, 3121 and Planet Earth.

I'm really excited these are getting released on vinyl finally. Bring on The Rainbow Children and Emancipation next!

Haven't bought too much in the last few weeks, a couple notable things though are:

- They Live OST (Mondo event exclusive picture disc)

- Phantasm Main Theme 7" single (Japan, promo copy)

And I pre-ordered the new Claypool Lennon Delirium album.

I wore out my original copy years ago... I actually have like 8 different copies of AFD on vinyl now

@RussTCB what do you think of the Nathaniel Rateliff album? Did you get the one with the bonus 7"?

The RSD list is out, here's what I'm interested in:

Anderson East - Live
Culture Club 10"
Pearl Jam Live
Pink Floyd - Saucerful Mono
Elvis Live At The International Hotel
Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band - Ledbetter Heights
Seven Mary Three - American Standard
The Crow - OST

In other news, Garth Brooks announced that his catalogue is finally coming to vinyl. I'm all over that.

I think off the top of my head I am in for:

Cheap Trick - Epic Archives Vol.3 (as a huge trick fan, I LOVE this series)

Alice Cooper - Dirty Diamonds

John Lennon - Imagine (rough mix)

Stones - She's a Rainbow single (I dig the art)

I'll probably bite on the stupid 3" player too as a fun novelty.

I think this is the most I've ever dropped on a record...

Second state butcher copy (you can faintly see ringo from ththe original cover in the right middle, mainly his v-neck)

The latest additions to my collection. WP2 is probably my favorite album Duff has been apart of since he first left GNR, and Get Born is one of my favorite 2000s rock n roll albums. Both sound awesome on vinyl :headbang:

Went to the record store to pick up a couple of things today. Unfortunately, they didn't have two of the three LPs I wanted.

I bought the new Nick Waterhouse while I was there, then I ordered Jackyl - S/T and Keith Richards - Talk Is Cheap from Amazon.

Saw the LP at the record store the other day but passed on it. I need to stream that and the new Tesla before I commit to buying either.
