This I really Love

Recommended Posts

November Rain's lyrics aren't as cringemaking as This I Love's though.

Right…so what about lyrics from classic Gn'R hits like Don't Cry or Patience - are they any less cringeworthy than TIL's ones? <_<

Don't Cry

Give me a whisper
And give me a sigh
Give me a kiss before you
tell me goodbye

Patience

I sit here on the stairs
'Cause I'd rather be alone
If I can't have you right now
I'll wait, dear

There's a difference between "simple" and "hokey" though.

And, for what it's worth, I actually don't care for "Don't Cry (Original)" for similar reasons.

To be more specific, it's not that they're bad, it's that he can do them better. The alternate lyrics to "Don't Cry" are a good example of this.

What a brilliant performance of This I love from the Netherlands in 2010. You can tell Axl is really proud of this song with the bow and everything after his vocal intro. Had this been released in the original GNR era it would have been a big hit Im sure. Dont know why people dont like this song

its a crybabys song... whiner song... Now I dont know why she didnt say goodbye..... hmm could it be the shitting in a cat box wasnt a realy great well thought out gesture of love to a woman?????????

it really is as simple as that.... this come from a man who also sang "turn around bitch I got no use for you"

Domestic violence / Axl's relationship and It's so easy lyrics.

Somehow all mentioned in bashing This I love

I'm at a loss for words, terrible post. I really like the song though. It almost sounds like Disney music, I don't know why Bucket didn't do the solo!

I'm a pretty mindless Axl supporter, but man, I cannot stand this fucking song.

How no one chimed in and said, "Hey, these kind of sound like they're from a 16 year old girl's diary," is beyond me.

Maybe you don't like November Rain either... It's the ballads that have always dictated Gn'R success (SCOM, Patience, Don't Cry & November Rain) and now This I Love.

Please don't even try and compare those songs with This I Love. Fuck.

Why not?

His vocals always sound pretty fierce on this track when he's got the rasp going on. People enjoy mocking it because of the questionable lyrics - fair enough - and the overwrought production but I think it translates well live.

It sounds more guitar driven live, it sounds more explosive.

I was there.

Don't like the lyrics of the song either, but the piano parts are great.

This could have been a great song with better lyrics.

And without Axl sqeeling and squirming like a Japanese teen girl in a porno getting boned by a huge hung black guy.

The alternative lyrics for Don't Cry may be better written, but the hatched-editing really sucked. Plus it emphasized the fact that this second version was an afterthought, not a song by its own means.

Shame.

Not that I'm trying to detract from anyone's concert going experience but it REALLY bugs me to have people singing along when they're around me when I can't hear the person I paid to see sing.

You must REALLY hate going to concerts then!

"I've searched the universe
And found myself
Within' her eyes"

"So if she's somewhere near me
I hope to God she hears me
There's no one else
Could ever make me feel
I'm so alive"

For me listening to songs or reading poetry in my own language is a totally different

experience from doing the same in other languages. When I listen to songs in my

native language I cannot escape hearing all the different nuances of the words and

sentences, and it is unavoidable to note if the expressions are new or unusual,

and if not, what is the history and why they are used in that context.

When the language used is not the one I was brought up with, like English, it is easier

to listen to the songs without thinking about the meaning of the lyrics. The first things

I notice about songs are then the mood, emotion, rhythm and the chorus lines. It kind

of takes longer for the lyrics to open up and even after that they do not take the center

stage from the mood and groove of the songs.

I have listened to TIL countless of times over the years. I think its lyrics match the melody

and have many nice golden bits. It does not bother me at all that there are expressions

such as “near me” and “hears me”, it sounds to me like they help create the flow for the song.

Also the amount of emotion is so exceptional that I feel like those endings create

a balance to the whole.

What is your own language?

Lyrics aren't stellar creatively but there's enough emotion in them to carry the song. Helps that the vocals sound very nice. It's about as rosy as it gets though, not many guns to be found here. Probably why it doesn't appeal to everyone.

Extremely impressive figures - circa 2 million views and around 10,000 likes - it seems that TIL popularity is still going strong and easily blows away any other CD song...

Not bad at all for a 'shitty' song with cringeworthy lyrics. :)

Popular opinion doesn't affect my opinion of the song.

Glad it doesn't - you're entitled to it! :)

But it doesn't change the fact that it's CD's most popular song (by far) without even being released as a single or video. One can only imagine how popular would it be if had it been otherwise...

When you mention the dismal sales of CD the NuGNR fanboys chime in with how unimportant sales are in this day and age and that Justin Bieber sells tons but that isn't a reflection on the quality of the music.

Then when the conversation changes we are told that 2million youtube hits of This I Love must mean it is a great song.

Hilarious.

That's why it's really really hard to have respect for most of the Axl fans.
