foghat43
Why not just release the '86 EP as a studio recording (which is what it was)? What was the point of adding the fake audience noise and trying to pass it off as a live album? Just curious.
DieselDaisy
To make it sound like a snotty punk live EP and generate interest on the underground scene. It was Niven's idea. Edited February 4, 2014 by DieselDaisy

foghat43
I still listen to AFD and Lies more than any of their other albums...they lost "it" somewhere between Lies and UYI...IMO. Edited February 4, 2014 by foghat43

T.wa.T
I think it was done to make potential fans think they put on a loud raucous live show. Which they did anyways but for potential buyers it was a good idea to suck people in.
Izzy_Stradlin_XX
Because it's easier to get followers if you already have a "rowdy crowd" featured on your record. Simple promotional stunt. They weren' the first band to do that.

Gagarin
It was just taken from Live Like A Suicide, which had the added crowd noise. They didn't add the noise in for GNR Lies. They only pressed, what, 10,000 of them in 86? So, I like that they made a way for every fan to get it.And yes, it was a fake 'indie' release, a fake 'live' record, trying to raise street cred and translate the energy of the live show. That's my guess.
