Best guitarists GNR has had in order

Recommended Posts

I'm going to interpret best as in best for/in GnR. Buckethead is easily the most skilled player, but in my opinion not the best fit for GnR.

Slash

Izzy

Buckethead

Robin

Richard / Paul (Rich is great live, Paul seemed to help the songwriting more

Ron

Gilby (not bad, but he just didn't add anything to GnR)

Edit: Forgot about Izzy and Gilby

"best" hmmm...best?? Best because they appeal to the flavor of the month? Best because they have the technical chops? Best because they appeal to what a person thinks a rock guitarist should look like? Best for the song they performed on and the emotional impact it delivered? Best in tone? Best in sound? best in performance? Best as overall fitting in with the concept of the band? Best as in creative contribution and output? Best as in ability to showcase the songs?

Best as in being BEST at copying and performing another guitarists style and tone? Who plays the classics as well and BEST than the originals? Who is BEST in not being recognized for thier absolute contribution to the GNR fold? Who is BEST in not having their music recognized as being anything more than a nice experiment? Who is BEST at playing a song that matters to the legacy?

Yeah pretty loaded question.. Objective vs subjective.

Now its resonable to observe that the ONE guitarist that wrote played and performed on GNRs most iconic music..music that still captures the worlds attention and IS STILL ASSOCIATED as GNR's "sound" would naturally have to go to SLASH. But since so many of you are trolling the gig with anti Slash sentiment.. that tiny little fact just trips up the whole WHO IS BEST ARGUMENT.

hands down.. your list is most appropriate : BEST in being able to copy the tone and sounds of the original guitarists.

However "Best" for GUNS AND ROSES and particular the 90% of vintage material... then you in any resonable fashion have to say SLASH and IZZY...But for Copycat purposes to keep the brand alive.. BH BBF FINK FORTUS and then DJ with a wink and nod to HUGE

Best FOR NUGNR...Hmm... probably BH and FINK followed by the rest of the fill in crew that for some god for saken reason we have no clue as to what they are capable of contributing. Given the level of talent its easy to speculate on how it might sound but since all we really have to go on is the work they did prior to becomeing hired help... then who is best?? is a matter of personal taste based on what gets you all hot and bothered.

WF*ck and Volcano.......you guys constantly complain about people coming to this forum to "cupcake"...........yet, you make topics/posts like this.

To say that Slash is the worst guitar player GnR has ever had........there is absolutely no logical defense for saying that. None whatsoever.

"Favorite" GnR guitar player - cool. Rank them however you'd like.

But in terms of an intelligent conversation, based solely on facts, you guys are totally completely TROLLING. Which is only annoying because you both constantly complain about others doing just that.

You haven't heard a DJ GnR song yet.

The only people in the world who would say that DJ is a better guitar player than Slash are you two and a couple other people on this forum, DJ's wife and mother.......and that's about it. DJ himself would tell you that Slash is a better guitar player. If you polled every singer, musician, rock critic, music lover, producer, label worker in the world and asked them if Slash was the worst guitar player in GnR history, it would literally be something like 99.9999% voting "no" and .0001 voting "yes."

And the majority of those people would laugh and say something like "What kind of stupid question is that? Only a complete moron would think that."

But you two in your weird obsession with hating Slash, put forth comments that are totally idiotic and ONLY posted to try and make people mad.

I get that you both - for some weird reason - feel like you must defend Axl at all costs and you must hate Slash (because Axl does). Nobody really takes you guys that seriously, but we all give you a little bit of props for your love and dedication to the current band. But when you make topics/posts like this - you just kill any credibility that you have. You turn yourselves into laughing stocks.

Ringo was the most talented Beatle.

Britney Spears is more talented than Janis Joplin.

Justin Bieber is more talented than Freddy Mercury.

Slash is the worst guitar player GnR has ever had.

Just idiotic trolling.

Based on what they've accomplished in Guns N' Roses and outside of it, I find it hard for anyone not to have Slash as the top pick. You can hate or love the man, but he put his stamp on most of the material that is getting played live and has showed that he still has something to offer outside of GN'R, having succeess with VR etc. I personally don't like any of it, but for his work with Guns N' Roses alone ranks him at the top. But that's just with being a fan of Guns N' Roses, rather than participating in any petty arguments on who was right blah blah blah.
